From what I remember, the 3/20 was the one I had as a kid. The 4 series is the one I bought off eBay many, many moons ago, hoping I could use its parts to fix the 3/20. That's when I learned that the connectors for most everything internal are all different between the two, so I got discouraged and shelved it forever. I'm just glad they're at a good home now! Wish I took better care of that Windows box... P.S. Check the inside cover of the manual for Windows! P.P.S. Yup, I sent out the registration card back in '09 I believe. Just as undeliverable back then as it is today!

in case any one is curious Toy Story is a Bomberman Clone and Pac Pac Land is a Clu Clu Land hack and the reason he's having a hard time with it is because in Clu Clu Land you are a crab and you have to use your claws to grab on to the pegs to move around. I don't think i've ever seen a ROM hack where someone one deliberately made it unplayable by removing one of the core gameplay elements until now.
I unboxed this vid by clicking on it. I was very happy with my unboxing. 10/10 would recommend clicking again.

God. Tweeterman... I grew up with his content, and kinda been keeping tabs every now and then. I remember he went on a really long hiatus, but came back a little while ago and is the same as ever. It's nice to see in an age of algorithms and views, Tweeterman's one of the last bastions of the old KZread. Broadcast Yourself.
Those two ROM hacks (Toy Story and Pac Pac Land) in that knockoff handheld are 2 actual NES games, called Bomberman and Clu Clu Land, respectively. The latter was one of the NES 'Black Box' games, and the former was the grandfather of all of the (many) games in the Bomberman series that came after it.
You should ABSOLUTELY do a video on Norton Desktop. There was also a similar package by Central Point Software as well.
man i remember when tweeterman287 originally did the time capsule video on this more than 12 years ago, time flies by
19:27 That is some sort of Super Bomberman hack 20:54 That is a rom hack of Clu Clu Land for the nes
@infinite_sun_rays
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the former one is a hack of the original NES Bomberman with the player graphics replaced with what I assume is supposed to be Woody from Toy Story?
That "Toy Story" ROM that you played is actually Bomberman, and Pac-Pac Land is a hack of Clu Clu Land.
What the fuck, he is literally the first person I watched on KZread regularly. Don't remember them talking about retro computers, just Ashen's style videos. I think I also used to watch for the puppet.
Thanks for recording these videos! These videos got me interested in old tech! Really entertaining channel, I enjoy watching your videos
I'm a sucker for old compaqs, my family were compaq users until we went the HP & Asus route in modern day. Always great to dive into this

One of my favorite channels to quick up time, always loved your content
16:44 as a Contra fan, I must say Contra 65 is a really good game, it lost some of the charm the predecessor had, but still is an overall good experience. For beginners I recommend starting with Contra *69* , since it has some *nice* mechanics used in later games. (Jokes aside, I kinda want to see the Rerez guys suffer with this console lmao)

Thanks for another awesome video, Michael!
Dude... this takes me back to 7th grade when I used to watch Tweeterman's channel regularly. This was one of my favorite videos by him when he featured this laptop and an old Motorola car phone. Thanks for the trip down memory lane
Compaq was the first ever computer in our house. brings back memeories.
Nice one Michael....good idea to do a series about the Norton Desktop & other tools that were available at those times....can bring back lots of fun memories ;-)
i've never heard of norton desktop, i'd love to see a video covering it so i can learn more about it
I love old tech magazines! I probably have over 100 of them somewhere!
I loved watching tweeterman back in the day!
dude, i remember watching tweeterman287 when i was in middle school - what a blast from the past!
You know it's a Michael MJD video when even an unboxing has something go wrong lol. That old rubber can make a mess.
Oh my. I remember watching his video on the 3/20, and now he gave it to you!
at that time we use to see it something great. i was in love with these laptops.
oh hey, I recognize those bootlegs. the toy story one is a bomberman game (though I can't recall which off the top of my head), and pac pac land is a romhack of clu clu land.
I remember seeing that game device in the sales bin at the local dollar store from the day after Christmas all the way until April. They hardly sold at all I am sure they where mad that they had a whole box of them that did not sell during the holiday season.
Nice vid! I need too find some vintage computers, I'm a young female but stuff like this I find so cool...always wanted too use a floppy disk and explore old OSes because VMWare doesn't give the same vibe.

Michael MJD, youre my favourite tech channel. really! i admire the tech you get or find
with sweeter man, what a legends!!
I used to play the OG Bomberman game at 20:00 as a kid, it was pretty dope.
This Compaq series will never end.
Now install UwUntu on it 😂
Wow, this is really awesome! Compaq might’ve been a time capsule for TweeterMan287.
I opened this video looking for old hardware and ended up seeing a Gameplay of "3" Definitely a good content! I love this videos Saludos desde México 🇲🇽
I may have mentioned this in a previous video but Windows 3.1 comes preinstalled with ArcaOS, a modern fork of OS/2 that runs on recent PCs (and also under VirtualBox). So technically you can still buy Windows 3.x. Seeing it running in widescreen at 1920x1080 never gets old. 😂 OS/2 circa 1993 (and later) runs Windows apps from that era extremely well, and bluescreens in Windows don't take down the entire OS. IBM wasn't kidding at the time when they described it as "a better Windows than Windows". It wasn't until Windows XP that home users had similar stability/reliability where Windows apps could no longer crash the entire system - more than 8 years later!
That was actually a very interesting portable nes...
The ripoff game with the bombs is based off Bomberman if I had to guess, it is very similar to it. I believe there was a bomberman for a pre-PS1 console.
everyone uploads when i get home, this makes me happy :)
RMC has a great video on how to restore software boxes.

wait is that a steelcase desk? my school used to have those in the computer labs and I've always wanted one!
17:23 I heard bootleggers do that to avoid copyrights. They jest remove part of the sprite.
Can't believe he's never played bomberman before
5:24 Should have a look at LGR’s video on restoring old game boxes, he has some good pointers for fixing them up.
I would love to see a video on Norton Desktop!!
yeah norton desktop sounds fun
19:25 That's not Toy Story, that's Bomberman. BTW, the one Bomberman game I grew up with is SNES Super Bomberman, that would be the one Michael should play since the NES one hasn't aged really all that well.
thx for the good videos
TweeterMan287... Now that's a name I haven't heard in a very long while. This is awesome!
I have the Contura 3/20 but its screen is burned. Also all the screen assembly is broken (brittle plastic). The LCD (monochrome) looks like it have a burn in the middle but without the plastic sheet is kinda visible and works, but the contrast is quite bad. To use it, I took a small 12" VGA LCD monitor and made an AIO from both. Its original HDD (an Conner) is dead so I replaced it with an 20G one that is recognized thanks to Ontrack Disk manager (I selected an existing size - the biggest one - in BIOS but after partitioning and formatting, the HDD was not recognized under Windows XP or 7, and Parted Magic complained about the wrong geometry; any write on disk corrupted data). So I made an 2G primary partition and one 6G secondary and installed MS-DOS 6.22, WfW 3.11; got an LPT Ethernet adapter and made an R/2R DAC for the LPT port. It is usable and for many dos games it works very well. I also found an driver for VESA VGA but not the diagnostic floppies. Without its original power adapter, I used the same (12V/5A) power adapter for the monitor. Its keyboard works well but I use an PS2 Y cable to use an PS2 mouse and keyboard. Great video, I am looking forward to see the Compaqs featured in next videos.
Michael MJD and TweeterMan287 The most unexpected collaboration ever
Holy tweeterman is not a name I thought I would be hearing today, damn that brought me back
Holy shit I remember watching TweeterMan so long ago, what a small world
i wish i had a computers like this
I haven't heard that name in so long!!!! Major part of my childhood...
Mjd is the kind of youtube content that I live for
You should open that "game player" thing and see whats inside it!
nice fun computer
@Michael MJD Yes! Please do a video about Norton Desktop and Norton Utilities! Ah the good old days of computing...
Tweeterman is who got me interested in tech when I was in highschool he was easily my favorite KZreadr at the time
I own a 4/25c. i got it from a yard sale for 20 bucks. it even comes with the case
Hey so I saw a video of someone in a windows 11 vm and they ended the explorer.exe task in task manager and basically copied over their windows 10 explorer.exe over to the windows 11 vm they ran it and it actually changed the windows 11 task bar to the windows 10 one and I thought that was really cool so I was wondering could you do that with older os explorers and stuff like that. Also I love watching your vids keep up the good work :)

Can you tell us what the video is called, cause that really peaks my curiosity
19:27 That's hack of the original Bomberman.
I mean, if it wasn't under powered to hell and back (since it's probably a CVS special) I'd use portable. That thing looks awesome. It's only missing some form of shoulder buttons. I'd love to see something ala the dmg shell size w/thumbsticks and a decent battery/soc once I get a job again XD
YAY ANOTHER COMPAQ
Wow that Mini Game Player is so thin - thinner than a smartphone
I recognize toy story as Mega bomber man. Was a sega game on megadrive and possibly master system also
"Toy Story? Wonder what this one's like. Circus Charlie? Yeah, I don't remember that from the movie..." I love how the fake name scheme isn't even consistent between those bootleg collections
the sound from the Game Power on full volume sounds like an old ice cream truck mega phone
I feel like Micheal missed the opportunity to get a Chewy box with actual meds and be like “Whoops! This is the wrong box!”
Please do Norton Desktop sometime. Sounds interesting!
19:53 It's a hack of Bomberman which replaces Bomberman for Woody from Toy Story. 23:01 is a hack of Clu-Clu Land.
Used to be a Tweeterman's subscriber back in the day.
I don't know what it is... But the running gag of floating jpg's flying by when you mention something particular is strangely amusing.
19:38 that game is called Bomberman
This laptop gets around!
That game you're playing at 19:40 is originally called Bomberman
"TOY STORY" is a bootleg hack of Bomberman (itself included later in the game list) and "PAC PAC LAND" is of Clu Clu Land, an obscure NES classic in my opinion.
Those ROM hacks... Well we know a lot of them in Russia. We had a Famicom clone named Dendy and we had a lot of carts with hacks. There is a good youtuber in Russian, Kinaman, and he did a lot of videos about hacks we had for Dendy. Some of his videos have English subs so it can be interesting to watch him, especially Сurse of the gray elephant movie he made.
now i want to but a compaq
I had a compaq presario 485 all in one, and I lent it to a friend, and he left it outside in the rain. SO MAD.
Nice
Michael the f.king talking hand😁 big fan!
Great
Please cover the Norton Desktop if you haven't already. 😊
Compare machines were my childhood.
In France it was 18h (6pm) When this video was released. Was it 12h (12am) in USA at this moment?
Yay new package new video
I'm amazed you're not familiar with Bomberman 😱
Kind of funny that I'm watching this, while installing Windows 3.11 on my new Toshiba Satellite 4025CDT, which has a Pentium 2 300mhz, 160mb ram, and it also has a Yamaha OPL3, which is a Sound Blaster Pro.. Going to be the best high performance DOS gaming machine ever! My next machine is going to either be a 386, also sticking with a Toshiba, unless prices are that good, for an old DOS gaming machine.
The shift key... shifted.
14:47 no, they are saying the cable might attack kids if given the chance
The bomb game is just Bomberman for the NES.
The "Toy Story" game is a ROM hack of Bomberman.
I can't wait to play "3"
In which we find out Michael hasn't played Bomberman 😆
