    I bought this unit just last week on eBay the same as you did (I was eyeing one up for months before then) so I can use my vintage circa-1983 Atari 5200 with my Insignia (Best Buy) 39" HDTV and then happened to see this very same review just a few days ago, thanks for the tutorial on this unit!!! BTW I got one with the US plug for use right here in the States and it'll be hooked up to my TV through my Sony STR-DH590 home theater receiver so I can enjoy hearing my games in full-fidelity sound along with the best possible picture (without having to buy too many peripherals or have my unit a/v modded) and also while maintaining the use of the 2600 adapter I also own for my 5200. If I had gone ahead and had it composite a/v-modded I would've lost the capability to run the 2600 adapter due to compatibility issues, so this was the best option, besides my a/v receiver only has HDMI jacks on it so this was the tonic right here.

    Thanks for the comment. I've bought many other adapters/convertors and this one was the best of them all. It is very configurable, easy to use and does the job as expected. Of course don't expect to be impressed with the old RF picture on your 39" HDTV. Artefacts will be pretty noticeable, especially if you watch from close distance. This is one of the downsides of the old analog signals.

    @hirudov I just got my RF-to-HDMI converter back on Thursday and it was so easy to configure, I am sure glad I saw your video first before I took delivery on it. I also got a couple of RCA-to-IEC (PAL antenna for UK/Europe/Australia TVs, a.k.a. type "DVB-T") adapters after finding out here this was not either an RCA or US/Canada-based F-type antenna connector, so I was well prepared for it when it came in back on Thursday. Thanks to your clip I was easily able to change the OSD to English (the default is Chinese), and channel scanning was a breeze, but you have to have your gaming system powered on for it to recognize its signal, it picks it up easily though, as I am only using it with my vintage Atari 5200 arcade system I have owned since 1983, so it read analog channel 3 easily. It operates like your typical old-school TV tuner, with adjustable color/tint/brightness/contrast controls along with selecting between both PAL (UK/Europe/Australia) and NTSC (US/Canada) and either 720p or 1080p, I set it for 1080p and my Sony STR-DH590 home theater receiver started to go haywire and after re-plugging the unit directly to the TV I corrected it and set it back to 720p instead. Then she worked perfect after that. BTW, once you get the right adjustments, the picture quality is quite good, the only thing is is that you will still get the old-school RF audio "buzzing" noise but other than that it puts out a great picture. An absolute must especially when more and more HDTVs are now coming equipped with only HDMI inputs and no composite or component a/v inputs or even an antenna jack. This unit is the quickest way to use your vintage arcade setup with modern TVs. In the old days, you had to buy an old VCR and use its built-in tuner outputted to RCA composite a/v out, not anymore.

    Not having any luck on any of my old systems. Also the OSD is not saving any settings. It did accept English but it won't set the favorites or anything. Also it didn't have channels 2, 3, 4 as the proper NTSC frequencies. Where did you get yours from, maybe mine is defective?

  • @RayJacksonbighmw

    @RayJacksonbighmw

    @@ChrisKewl It reads in MHz frequencies, not all "channels" are the same frequencies in different regions/countries in the world, so "channel 3" for instance may be at a certain megahertz frequency. I know it's a little weird, but once this device finds your console's video signal that's all that matters, and BTW, that first signal will then be designated on this device as "channel 1" so don't let it fool you it's just how it operates, nothing wrong with it.

    One more question Hirudov, I was just wondering since I'm here in the States if the antenna connection input on the RF-to-HDMI is a typical RCA jack or is it something special that I may need to get an adapter in order to plug it into the antenna input. My 5200 has an RCA lead.

  • @Hirudov

    @Hirudov

    It is ordinary RF antenna connector as seen at 3:45. The difference between EU and US versions is in the power plug. The adaptor accepts inputs 100-240 V.

    @@Hirudov Just found it, the RF connector on that unit is a PAL/IEC jack that takes PAL/IEC male plugs, so I just got myself an RCA-female-jack-to-PAL/IEC-male plug adapter, I picked a pair of them up on eBay from a USA-based dealer: www.ebay.com/itm/2-PCS-PAL-IEC-Male-to-RCA-Female-Connector-USA-Seller/231190947531?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D41d7a87ccf9e4c85bccbb4360efe017e%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D15%26mehot%3Dnone%26sd%3D184466011877%26itm%3D231190947531%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057%26brand%3DRCA&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A144e3d78-0ddc-11eb-93e6-566547244a3d%7Cparentrq%3A258798f51750aa6636a23b10ffcfedda%7Ciid%3A1

    Can be use with powerbank. For my Android tablet or phone, just buy and HDMI EZCAP for PC and Android OTG adapter either USB-C or Micro USB connectors. Don’t forget telescopic antenna for that. Now there’s an analog TV dongle for Samsung tablet. For digital Tv, ISDB-T/DVB-T, I have MyGica WiTV for NON-OTG ANDROID DEVICES and iOS devices, MyGica WiTV2 for DVB-T2 for iOS and OTG-LESS Android tablets.

    @@babisnikolatos1457 Where do you live at? I believe I can answer your question after finding out, you may just need to set it for either PAL or NTSC, depending on what country you're from, if you're from here in the States or Canada it would be NTSC, if you're from Europe, the UK or Australia it would be PAL, unless you hail from a nation that uses to soon-to-be phased out SECAM format, right now I believe only France or other French territories uses it. Also, don't use it with the sound mode set at "DK", it can also effect your picture quality, set it mainly for anything else but that, and that also could be a solution, I found that out myself, I use the "M" mode. I swear by this unit to run all 4 of my Atari gaming systems (2600, 5200, 7800 and XEGS) and would never go back to using a VCR for its tuner after seeing what this little unit can offer when it comes to its features!!! Also check the channel after scanning it to make sure you are on channel 1 on this device's built-in tuner, as it runs by its signal frequency and numbers channels differently than a typical TV would, regardless of what channel you have your unit set for.
