Jim Murphy (that some may know from Matt Colville's interview with him) has a few videos about how to touch up and improve pre-painted mini's with a bit of ink and dry-brushing. Unfortunately, I think anything pre-painted isn't going to be great, or it's going to be really expensive. I do agree with you that these don't seem great value for money etiher, but you're likely also paying premium for the branding.

I just don't understand the "loot box" approach to everything these days. Like, your supposed to drop a hundred bucks for 8 figures with the hope that one or two might be usefully? If I don't know what I'm getting, I sure as hell ain't buying it. Oh wait, I guess it's 32 figures? Does that make it better?

@@Elamdri To be honest even a basic paint job done by hand by a newbie would be better than this. Literally the minimum amount of effort consisting of just colouring each bit a solid colour and throwing a shade wash afterwards would be far better than these things which are basically the painting equivalent of a child unable to colour inside the lines.

4:54 that pit fiend's weapon is bent 90 degrees into his own face. To be fair though, if someone had painted my teeth to look like Donkey from Shrek then I'd probably be trying to smash them out myself too. I don't want to be too down on these miniatures - I think they are great for players that have money to burn, are not necessarily into painting themselves and just want some random models to throw down and dress up their DnD games - but good lord I just find everything about them ghastly. They look like someone sculpted them with blu-tac and a soup ladle, the paint job is horrendous, the super-glued bare bases look awful. It boggles my mind that people are prepared to pay good money for these things, more so that they are paying for blind boxes and have no idea which one of these shambles they are going to get. Isn't it cheaper to buy 5 miniatures and paint them yourself? Even if you have never picked up a paintbrush before, I believe ANYONE could do a better job of painting miniatures (or at least match the paintjob this company happily splat all-over their pre-painted range).

Wizards mini's have gone down the toilet. It used to be that you got 10 minis in a booster. There was a game you could play with just the minis, and they all had easy to reference stat cards. It's now four. The subgame and the stat cards are gone.

To be fair the initial larger figures you unboxed were decent but those smaller humanoid figures were really rough both in sculpt and especially in the paint job department. Also looking at the way those things were just glued to the bases so haphazardly grinds my gear. At 12.50 a box your paying about 3 bucks per figure and that doesn't include shipping. If your desperate and need to quickly throw some figures on a table this might do it for you but man if you own any decent quality figures these will stand out and not in the good way(especially now where enthusiast 3d print the damn things in resin with spectacular results). But it all boils down to Time, Quality, Cost where you can only pick two, so for certain people this is a good option to have available.

However, truely...those are horrrible looking and I really cannot grasp why you keep saying beautiful or great looking and I dont try to just be negative or something. These look like minis back in the days, like 90ies, when as teenagers we tried first to paint minis with the wrong brushes, wrong paints and no experience. I'm honestly not sure I'd use these if for free...I'm looking at my old metal minies and heck, they are at times 30 years old but the level of details is a completely different league. I honestly don't understand these here...except for the price, of course.

Boy Wizkids. I really thought that the original Monster Menagerie set was going to mean a higher quality release schedule. However, I just think they are trying to get too many sets out too quickly and the quality is not consistent. There are some good sculpts in this set but they need to be touched up! This really stinks for people who don't have the time to paint their miniatures. I am going to check out the new Pathfinder release tomorrow but I don't have super high hopes. I dunno if any 3rd party people are going to try to produce prepainted stuff. I know reaper dabbled in it and some of those miniatures were cool. Dungeon Crawler put out some good stuff but I don't know how financially successful that line was. I will keep my eyes and ears out for any other 3rd party prepainted releases. Consider the original Pathfinder prepainted "Beginner Box Heroes" pack! Wizkids can do higher quality products! I mean if it's the different between paying $2.50 per miniature and $3.50 per miniature then maybe they just can't cut the costs anymore.

I think because these are mass produced in large quantities it would be really hard to get really good quality paint jobs on such a high count of figures. But you could even go for cheap reaper bones figures for like $2.00 and paint them with even some cheap Acrylics and get a better outcome. But with that price would get some metal figures and some Valehjo paint and a few washes.

As someone who has experience with state audit programs, NEVER mention that you don't pay tax on purchases either online or from over seas. That will instantly flag you for an audit because there is something known as Use Tax that customers have to pay whenever a business doesn't charge Sales Tax. I would edit this video honestly to remove that last portion. Just because you didn't pay taxes, doesn't mean taxes aren't due. @Taking20

WOW that Durnan paint job was HORRENDOUS! I actually got a brick of these, (Just to get the promotional statue set which was AMAZING btw) these ones here, I don't understand you're enthusiasm (I guess you have to act happy since they gave them to you) I won't be buying any other bricks from this set. I recently bought a Ravinca brick. (they were nicer for sure) I wish they would come out with an entire box for example of "20 orcs" or 20 Goblins. (with a nice quality mold and paint job) Some of these go into a giant bag of random figures I'll NEVER use.)

Going to skip this line, the quality on the molds and the painting just isn't up to par with what they released previously. If Wizards doesn't want to do their own minis anymore they could just let Repear do them for them. I don't mind painting my own.

I just don't get this whole concept. I've been painting minis for about 6 years now (after a 30 year long hiatus) but I just don't get this blind box business. Judging from the quality it looks like this is targeted at kids as toys? Is that was the target market is? Teens who want to play D&D but don't have time to paint it themselves?

dreadknot69 that makes sense to me, as teen/young adult who wants to get in the hobby, thinks miniatures are cool, but sure as hell don’t know how to paint them myself. I don’t know what the price of this brick thing he got is, but these were probably painted either by a machine or someone in a shop/factory with a quota. It could be worse, but this video was shilling pretty hard.

@@witchBoi_Connor I can totally get that, if you're new to the game and don't want to paint for whatever the reason. The problem that I still don't get is why it's a blind buy? If I want a mini or minis, it's for a reason and I went specific ones. If I wanted to collect them then I'd certainly want better quality than this crap. I just don't get why people buy these blind.

Thanks for the video! Also, thanks for confirming my decision not to invest any more money in this set :/ I thought the brick I already opened was a fluke, but your brick has exactly the same problem as mine had. The sloppy sculpts and the sloppier painting. There are a couple of stand out pieces (Looking at you, Pit Fiend!), but as a blind box it does not have good odds on getting your money's worth. :/ fwi, I may buy singles, but not interested in spending @ $100 for 4 good minis and 28 garbage minis.
