I'm a fan of side print keycaps, I like how they clean up the look of a keyboard without going full blank, letting you still see what keys are what. I'll be looking forward to the full review.

Side printed is definitely my favorite type of keycap too, and especially backlit they look really nice. I loved them when I still typed in QWERTY but now that I use colemak I'm kind of limited to either blanks or uniform profiles that I can move around. Turns out it's pretty hard to find backlit, doubleshot, uniprofile, side-printed caps.

as an osu! player, it’s great to see more and more HE keyboards in the market, i’m sure in the near future you’ll be able to get a full HE keyboard for like $50

Wooting does the calibration each time you connect it to the computer (because if you connect it with key pressed, you won't be able to press that key unless you disconnect and connect the keyboard again)

MX + Magnetic means that this version of the board has both the Hall Sensor AND (Kaihua?) Hotswap Sockets. Ergo, you can take out the Gateron Hall Switches and replace them with any MX compatible switch of your liking. Why you would do that, though, is a bit of a mystery to me, at that point I'd rather just save the money and get the regular version, no?

  • @gamingsoups

why someone would do that is definitely a mystery but I suppose it's like a "well the option is there" kindof thing so you don't have to buy an entirely separate board if you also end up disliking the sound profile of the keyboard itself. Dunno, probably a form/acoustics over function thing

One can only hope that with the popularity of Hall Effect switchs that other interesting switchs, for example magnetic separation ones might see a return as well. Speaking of returns, good to see you Tom, I'll look forward to the full review!

The hall effect craze is really starting to grow popular. A few years ago it was mainly wooting and the apex pro (I don't think the xmit keyboards had as much success as the other two), but as of now there is like a dozen option for keyboards with magnetic switches, and it'd be interesting to see how far they'll go with it, because right now it's mostly about copy/pasting wooting features mostly haha. Looking forward to the review although I can take a guess as to whether you like the switches. By the way, will you consider at some point making some sort of quick ranking video with which hall effect switch you think is the best, or keyboard for that matter?

Is the Wooting still what people recommends around here? I'm looking for a TKL/75% sized keyboard ready to use out of the box, preferably with no gap between function keys and the rest.

@@grimetone It really all depends on whether you'll be using its features or not, if so I'd probably say yes because their software is probably the most reliable. If you're just looking for a keyboard with magnetic switches there are cheaper options. Chyros did a video about their drunkdeer a75 that might be what you're looking for, and even more recently the atk75 by vxe has been released, which is one I'll be trying but can't attest yet of its reliability/quality. Might still be worth a little look.

Not anymore. The Devs of the Drunkdeer KB dropped that feature with a firmware update a while ago. I think the rapid trigger features and the hotkey actuations were too much for the limited size of the onboard memory.

@@johndo3744 This is a difficult one. Honestly, very hard. There are about 10000 "mechanical-like" keyboards on the market rn, most very generic, with nothing worth reviewing other than the switches, and most of the time, even those won't be worth talking about. Plus, it's unlikely sellers will want to send me stuff like that. Finally, many people that have never used BTC will easily mistake a generic mem-chanical switch for BTC-like simply because they don't feel like a random office keyboard. What I'd need is someone who is well-versed in rubber dome keyboards including BTC DwS to find and then recommend me a specific model of keyboard that feels like it, and then someone to send me one.
