Is this late 1960's Fender Stratocaster cool or what? Would you refinish? At least need some jumbos on this beast. 💪🏻

I would refret and touch nothing else. Painting/refinning would just kill a lot of the vibe this thing has.

Exactly my thought. The wear and those dings on the body and neck are what make that guitar special.

Yes, I would for sure leave it (color) as is. The beauty of the wood; the aging of the finish; it's wear; it's character, vibe - not retrievable once painted.
I was raised in the 70's and remember that color showing up in many ways and when you reference the 70's vibe, you are spot on. I hate when people think of 70's in a clown way, the 70's was dirty and cool and rock n roll smokey. This guitar is a thing of pure beauty my friend good score
I love how you said to go outside of your comfort zone. Wise advice for someone so young. You have to take a chance. Another great guitar Matthew.

I thought the same, it looks awesome that colour - it suits the colour of the headstock very well. I do get why Matt wants to change it to black though, as a massive Hendrix fan its always a dream as a kid having the black or white strat with the 70s headstock 😍

Love your channel and videos like these Matt, soo cool to see you get excited and nerd out over guitars like I do! Please keep us with you as you do all the steps in bringing this beauty back to playing condition! Refin and frets for sure, Peace!
Dude, I would love to take you back to the 70s with me. You’re like all my friends I had back then. So refreshing to find someone young today like that 👍👌👋🎼🎸⚡️
In the time I've been watching you, your playing has really progressed. Sounds great.
The many colors on that headstock is stunning ,nice find 👍
That guitar found the right home. You two were made for each other.
Cool, looks like you found another great guitar to bring back to life. Can’t wait to see how you resurrect this new project!
Matt I just started watching your videos. I don't know what's more impressive you're knowledge about guitars or you're playing!!! Keep it up man!!!
Such a cool strat! I can already feel some strong Hendrix vibes coming from that in the future! Keep playing great Mr. Scott!!
Hey Matt I own a 1969 Strat that I bought brand new back in 1970 and it is by far the best Strat I've ever owned and let me tell you I have owned more than you can imagine.
I have the same guitar. Its like you found the twin to mine. Best feeling neck Ive ever played. My fret board isnt quite as played as yours. Great find dude!
Glad someone like you is finding and taking care of a classic guitar like that
Great find, Matthew! There’s something very special about this one. Excited to see what you plan to do with it.

I think that something soecial is the stunning sound👍👍🇬🇧
some bad ass playing at the end too, amazing so much vintage for such a young man
I like the sound of this guitar, it just has that classic sound from the 1960's that I love so much, that kind of fat strat sound. Im a huge hendrix fan as well. He was such a influential guitarist even though he was only around for such a short time, I really wish he had lived longer because I cant even imagine what else we would have got from him.
I've learned that Fender used Nitro-cellular lacquer on top of their headstocks; even during the late 60's, when CBS was using Polyester finishes on their necks & bodies. The reason being that the Poly finishes evidently adversely affected the waterslide decals beneath. And since lacquer did not do that, they stuck with nitro. And of course, that lacquer would yellow and darken with exposure to light, etc.
The finish on the body matching the headstock, with natural tint not color, and the fact it's very different and looks like furniture from the 70's I think is what gives it that 70's look. Plus the larger headstock, this a is all 70's! People who know guitars who see this on stage will think, "That is fucking awesome." I think it shined with the tube screamer too which makes it great live as well. This may become the guitar you are synonymous with in years to come, things work out weird in this world!
Hey Matt! Love watching this channel. It’s funny to me that people are so interested in where you get the money for these purchases. Where there’s a will there’s a way. And your awesome talent and passion definitely inspires that. Keep up the great work!
Sick ass guitar and playing man. Could listen to you jam all day. Keep it up.
This is not too far from Walter Trout's 1973 White Stratocaster, both in production year and in the way they have aged. And, he actually wrote a song about it! Thanks for sharing...
My old guitar teacher told me, always pick guitars that looked like they were loved... and that one my friend looks like that!!! By far most wear I ever seen on a rosewood board!.. can't wait fur more!!✌✌
Bro it looks amazing! Looking forward to the progress videos!
Looks amazing... and the sound both unplugged and clean into the Bassman's 4 tens... in a word? 'Delicious (!) ...and another cool video done done
Congrats on your new baby! She looks and sounds amazing! Sooo much mojo!
So you're the guy who bought it? I had it on my watch list. Good buy on your part.

Geoff Caldarone - what he does may be irrelevant, affording anything is a matter of priorities. I have friends who spend excess thousands a year just financing new cars, live in bigger homes than they need but they claim to be cash poor and they never do anything! You don't NEED to keep getting new cars, some people just feel safer with them for no good reason, just roll new cars and boats and furniture into the mortgage renewal - but they might never have any fun or travel somewhere exciting while they are still young. Debt bubble delusional thinking in my view. So there you have it, priorities. Put your dreams first. If you have a will, there's easily a way to finance a piddly 20 K guitar collection. And it's not going anywhere - since the vintage market has come down and stayed down, you will probably lose way less money on the ownership of a 62 or 69 Stratocaster or a choice old Martin than you will buying most any car. Not all of you might agree, but someone did ask the question. Have a life you want fellas! Cheers.
Man, this guitar is AMAZING! Your screams during your playing confirm that :D
Fantastic. I've been playing my Oly white Am. Special with the big head a lot here lately. So I hear ya with the Jimi vibe
I just bought an all original 1958 Fender Stratocaster with its original Fender, hard shell, tweed case. The guitar was a 2 owner guitar that had been sitting in its case, inside of a bedroom closet since 1981. The second owner knew the original owner and played the guitar a few times and then stored it. The original owner also played it very little and also stored it in his bedroom closet inside of its case. Everything on the guitar is original and working and had never been disassembled after being originally assembled by Fender and shipped out. Every vintage Fender expert that has seen the detailed photos of the guitar believes it and its case are both, possibly the most well preserved 58’ Strat and tweed case in existence.

Dude thats awesome!! Love the neck and big 70’s headstock!! Sounds super Stratty! Love Strats! Great playing also! Cheers
What a sound. I would love to hear it again when your done with the set up! I know what you mean, I bought a Firebird I, because I love the sound, the look and the feel.
It must have been that era - my uncle just gave me his 1969 and he refinished it natural and painted all the plastic black in about 74. But the tone and vibe is unreal.
Your enthusiasm is intoxicatingly exciting!!!

❤️Beautiful guitar and definitely has the Band of Gypsies vibe. Loved the playing at the end. It probably has ghosts of its own to inspire you to.❤️
Wooooo! Refret only Bro. DO NOT kill the MOJO. Great find!
Sweet as is bro, fret job definitely, my 75 was a bad refin and when I stripped it all off the routes were untouched with original color and blonde stamped in the neck pickup route, love the vids mate, all the best from Sunny south Wales
Amazing Strat, all the wear makes it look so good.
Another GR8 find Matt! Leave her just like she is man, finish wise!
that thing is sick man, awesome playing as usual!
can't wait to hear its sound. gonna be AWESOME!!!
Hey Matthew... Great surprise there. haha I love how you have all your friends sitting around on the couch with you man. That is an amazing guitar. I totally dig it, especially since it's a 69. That's my era. Plays like you 've had it for years. Hey, who needs frets. I think it's another night I'm going to bed thinking about your guitars Not sure what I do wrong but I search reverb everyday and did not see that.
Matt you must be ballin with all those vintage guitars!
The fretboard is beautifully worn. It's no wonder, the pickups sound fantastic. Nice find.
Wow, the tone is really nice and big! Cheers Matthew
Hi Matthew, I really enjoy your videos. Although I play a little rhythm guitar, I am primarily a drummer. I just enjoy practicing my drums and watching you as I play. Best wishes.
Nice find Matt, great playing too!
*Matthew when you check out the pickups see if the initials AY are written on them. Abigail Ybarra was winding pickups during the time the bighead Stratocaster's were being made and she wrote her initials on the pickups she winded. Nice Stratocaster haul.*
That strat is sick!!!! So much road wear. Awesome video 👍
Yeah loving that orangey finish dude - killer 70’s vibe. Looks like the kind of thing Lowell George might have played. Too cool.
Oh man........this is the first guitar I've seen of yours where I wouldn't touch the body at all - clean it up, for sure and do what ya gotta do with the frets and inside the body but yeah - I love the finish of this guitar and that fret board....bloody hell man that fret board came outta the case talking stories lol. I'm looking forward to further videos of this guitar :-)

nice work mate, love your passion for fine instruments. when I get home from work now as I'm 57 retired from playing live, plug a '85 30w Marshall into an SG and play along to anything by Neil Young and Crazy Horse. Too much fun on the fretboard. thanks mate, awesome stuff.
