Unboxing a BRAND NEW(?) Technics SL-1200 Mk2 Turntable Deck MINT (1210 DJ)

I bought a Technics SL-1200 Mk2 and when I came to open it up I realised this could possibly be an unopened brand new unused deck. See for yourself!

These are amazing decks. I still have a 1210 MK2 that I bought new and I recently bought a 1200G. Although my MK2 was still working fine I bought the G as a thank you to Technics for this iconic player. Back in 2010 I signed the petition letter that was send to Panasonic asking to continue this amazing deck. The MK2 is now in my secondary system.

Reference being it factory sealed box- The plastic cartridge alignment tool is missing (right of the headshell in packaging), the manual looks like it's been printed from a pdf. The 'shipping weight', is for heavier cartridges, it screws on at the back of the arm. The foam packaging holding the main turntable seems to be marked / dented in so many places... not something you'll see from a factory sealed box. The packaging comes like that ref 6.18. The aluminium 45 adapter (ref 8.45) has a foam sheet under it just like the white foam the dust cover is wrapped in. The pop up light is a lot smoother when you first pop it up after many pop ups it's like what you have it there (ref 5.37). Have a look carefully around the pitch control in daylight, near the start / stop (in different angles). Also where the dust cover rubber stops sit. In these places you get oil from fingers and the rubber stops leave a residue over time. Oil from finger tips impregnates into the paint finish over time and can't be wiped or polished off. One other thing when you unwrap a brand new table it has a very strong smell of rubber, especially that thick rubber mat and the base. It doesn't look like a factory sealed box, sorry.

Bloody hell that's a very detailed examination 🤣 The faceplate does not have a single mark, not a scratch, grease dot or fingerprint. Nothing. The lid, hinges and platter are absolutely immaculate too... It must be used though as you say the target light does pop up quite quickly whereas new would be smoother. For what I paid for it, it's still a steal!

You seem like a proper Tech-Head. Are their still any 'box-fresh' silver SL1200's out there? Who knows, but I bet as I you wouldn't say no to it!

@@evisla_audio9754 The pop up light wouldn’t be as smooth if it’s a 15-20 year old deck, the grease would still deteriorate even if was new old stock.

Looks like a web store return, somebody opened it and immediately sent it back - about 12 years ago. People didn't realize what great decks these are back in the 00s.

Nice 1. I just missed a bid on a local one. But very nice 1200. Although it's mint. It looks like a repack. Sorry but I open a lot brand new. Still. It is mint. I'm not going to say how I know but I know lol it's missing the foam from back of tone arm.

Naa I don't think that TT is off the shelf, but my my from what we're able to see in your video it look well minted. We Tech-heads noticed you didn't zoom in on the serial number to know the year of manufacture, and you didn't say how much you paid (you don't have to). Nice TT.
