For those of you who have coleman or bestway pools and find the intex model skimmer doesn’t seem to stay in place the flow clear model by bestway has the same design however the piece that attaches to the top rail is a nice oval shape to match the large oval shape of coleman and bestway steel pro max pools. I did find myself switching finally after being frustrated with intex model being made for more of a round top rail and it kept riding up but I’ve not ever had that problem with the flowclear I’ve used on my bestway steel pro max pool for 3 seasons now. It comes with the same pieces as intex model but the blue piece that floats does work a little better in my opinion. Had same type of adapter and hose so is interchangeable with suction ports of coleman, bestway, intex and then for other kinds of pools people have found options at hardware stores. The adapter does fit on the small suction port and the large pool fitting for suction once you remove the strainer grid. I modify my pools to use the large intex pool fittings and plug one suction as I don’t have small children who could get caught by the suction and drown. Great video tho. The over side skimmer is so helpful and skimmer socks can be found on Amazon super cheap I never re use any I get 30 for approx 10.00 I also use them in my pool blaster max li rechargeable vacuum inside the sand and silt filter just as extra layer of protection. One suggestion is check for trapped air periodically in your pump as I had this happen often using the intex skimmer. The flowclear also comes with easy set option as well.

@@EclecticIdeas I use intex 2500 gallon per hour cartridge filter pump isn’t sand filter but academy sports has it for 129.99 regular price. I hear ya on investing money my son barely gets n the pool anymore but I’ve spent way more than what a pool costs just last month got chlorine from Sam’s but in long run will b with it 40lb 3tab indivual wrap tablets 168.00 on sale I usually get chlorox extra blue 45.00 plus tax for 5lb so big diff. And I have extra fittings I get from intex Corp directly since I use large pool fitting and I get the replacement screw on hoses at academy 10.00 each anywhere else is over 20 for one. They even have ground cloth and intex covers I got my bestway steel pro max pool there too and was just on sale 299 comes with cover ladder and 1000 gph pump but it has seams across the bottom two places and I read reviews others experience what I have extra liner making the flap on seam has ripped off so I got intex ultra frame xtr 14x42 my bestway is 15x42 but got this from spreetail on eBay my go to seller 449.99 2 yr warranty comes w ground cloth, cover, ladder and sand filter is only 925 gallon per hour tho so not using it i even verify with intex that it was actual model number prior to purchase and that it was not discontinue cause I never saw xtr that size on website. It came like next day and has 30 day free return too! I do keep extra 2500 gallon per hour pump on hand just n case cause I run non stop all day everyday 24/7 does hav nice timer tho if you prefer not to but I’ve never had any problems with green water or anything when I uncover n spring is clear too I use in the swim winterizer since pool isn’t 7500 gallons they said use half the kit and punch one hole n winter floater it works great! I’m disabled so I try n work smarter not harder

@@heathermelohnthereareno5505 we would love to know if the pump holds up during the freezing temperatures. In Texas not much of the freezing temp but we do get it once or twice a year. Do we insulate it for winter or will it just run. 🏃 🏃‍♀️

I have never had trapped air until I installed the intex skimmer. I think next year I'll get a different one. Every time the filter is on it takes in air from somewhere.

@@randalynkiltz4633 we have the best way pump. It does the job for us but once it sucked air for me but I had forgotten to put the o ring gasket in and I turned the pump on. Oops 😬 The next time I hadn’t tightened the air gasket on top of the lid so the pump wasn’t primed (it was sucking air). But at this point I have zero issues with it other than it’s just a cheap cartridge filter that isn’t as powerful as a more expensive pump. If it’s acting weird it may be defective. The hose attachments could be lose?

I just set this up on our 22x12 above ground and it works fantastic. Did have to close one of the drain holes so its concentrated to the skimmer but works great.

finally a vieo that i can see the grey bucket way below the waterline, with the blue basket high above, which makes much more sense to me, giving the pool room to lose a few inches without burning up the pump. thats what i want to know, is how smart it is to run off of one line, how much water one can lose before the pump runs dry.. looks like its a good 6 inches of travel, which is relieving. My girls splash out that much sometimes in one play session.

I want to thank you for your step-by-step video! I was able to figure out what worked best for my Bestway pool. The installation was a breeze but the skimmer isn't "sucking" I've released the air and used the stopper. Any suggestions?

At first ours was not working because we had forgotten to put that white stopper into the B side intake valve. We figured that out because we put the big black plug that comes with the pool into the other B-side valve to see if there was any suction at all into the skimmer basket. When there wasn’t we realized we forgot that white plug with the hole in it. You might try plugging your other B intake with the black stopper to see if any suction is there at all. So your skimmer basket is in one of the B-side intake valves, right? And the other B-side intake valve without the skimmer basket is where you placed the stopper with the hole? And that doesn’t pull water into the skimmer? If it’s not even doing that you might try unplugging and re-plugging the pump. If that doesn’t help, check the strength of your pump if it’s pulling enough water through the intake valves. If it was included in the box it should be strong enough.

Need at least a 1,000 gph filter pump for the skimmer to work properly. My pool came with a 530 gph filter pump and wasn’t sufficient enough for the skimmer so upgraded to the 1,500 gph filter pump.

I’m confused, I have the same exact pool and skimmer. Does the skimmer hose attach to A or B, inside or outside the pool? And If it’s inside, how does the pump suck in water then, especially if the other in-take has that rubber thing in it that restricts water flow? Can you only use the skimmer and the pump one at a time? Your pool build video was AWESOME, this one is not very clear.

Skimmer attaches to one of the B side, inside the pool. If you have a powerful pump I don’t think you will need to do anything. Our pump was not that powerful so we had to restrict one side to the water is being pulled more from the skimmer side. When the pump runs then the skimmer automatically starts pulling water from the B side. Hope that helps

@@jojob1155 the skimmer you put it where the water goes out of the pool to the pump. This way the pump can pull water through the skimmer. Hope that answers your questions. If not feel free to ask. 😊 in our pool it’s labeled the B side.

Great video! But anazon link for skimmer is not the one that comes with hose and fittings.

@@tomwilliams3991 I just verified my order and that’s the one we ordered. But I can see another one with Hose and Adapter B Replacement Parts. But you can always return it if it’s not the correct one.

So that other B intake valve I’m confused about?! So regarding the 2 B inlets … I’d like to see how you attach all the hoses on the outside of the pool to your pump! Our hoses are attached to the top of pool with zip-ties but wondering if this is correct?! Maybe gravity is our problem!!Our pump isn’t working properly… we’ve primed the pump basket … won’t backwash but for like 5 seconds… tried recirculating, rinsing, we’re thinking possibly the pump inside is clogged or something?! We’ve not had this problem before! There is very little water flow into the pump and none coming out the A outlet valve …. It’s open! We’ve closed that and opened that also! Hopefully you or someone can advise! Thank you!!

One of the b intake we had the skimmer and bother b intake we put that white stopper with the hole that came with it. Can you remove the skimmer and see if the pump works first or if it’s clogged or something?

What happens if instead of plugging the other outlet you just place two skimmers?

We wanted to try that too but our pump is not strong enough. If you have a strong enough pump you can try it. May be in the future we can upgrade our pump and try it.

How do you pull the basket out with the handle being taken off and debris not getting back in the pool?

Hi Tiffany! To remove the basket without the handle check carefully there are no stinging bugs under the rim of the skimmer basket or blue lip. If there are remove the top ring and just skim them out with your pool net. Then grab the mesh basket and lift it. It’s more trouble, but it allows the filter sock to grab more particulate matter.

I place my skimmer sock on the same way but I then find the slots for the handle and insert it thru the skimmer sock and place the handle upside down and you can easily grasp the entire blue piece while holding a finger inside skimmer basket and pull both out at same time. I usually keep my hand skin handy so I can capture Any debris that may come out and sometimes I find debris under the basket to get that out I remove the skimmer off the top rail attachment and let it flow Thru the water with pump off and debris will come out and catch with hand skimmer hope that helps

I always put on some disposable gloves before sticking my hand in the skimmer… Such skimmer contains a lot of grossness.

I wear them and even shoe covers due to it being muddy where my pump is working on that tho last 2 summers made my walkway with paver base pads and pavers now working on making it go around back of pool. But you can grab the blue piece at same time and you don’t have to stick hand in.

Will this work with a rx 600 pump 2400 gallons?

It should do a good job since your pump is more powerful than ours. I think the minimum should be 800 gallon per hour.

Putting the little white rubber thing in a A filter really screwed me over. This didn’t work for me and ended up getting in trouble for trying to install a skimmer 😒. Now our pump isn’t working. I quit. I now know why I didn’t have nice things as a kid.

Skimmer is not a must have but it did take us sometime to figure it out too. Once we figured it out we tried to make a video so it helps others. Pool guy may help you out?

You said A filter is where you put the rubber part? If so that is not correct the A I believe is where clean water goes back into pool. A lot of people use inlet and return diff ways so is why I’m saying that the B is suction. Skimmer goes on one of the B and white stopper with hole goes on other B. If you put the rubber piece in the A then the pump was completely strained as it couldn’t put the clean water back into the pool fast enough And would cause the pump to eventually malfunction. Maybe I’m misunderstanding but is the only thing I can think of that would mess up the pump by blowing the motor basically same issue if for example you had water line below the suction ports and had pump running can’t do it’s job. You may have just broken the ceramic piece that goes inside impeller but you can get another pump for decent price. Right now they are at all time low prices the cartridge filter type and sandfilter even the sandfilter with salt water combination. So I put couple example link for replacement impeller and they have genetics if you can figure out size of yours and even just the piece that is the fin or the shaft piece slides in so you have nothing to lose to remove screws maybe take pic first so you know I posted earlier I didn’t drain my pool down far enough and just closed plunger valves one fall and plunger valve opened somehow n pump filled with water whole winter bad enough to rust out a bolt and I was able to take apart c that as a prob put similar bolt n place clean inside of pump and worked fine you can also use volt meter to check if power if coming out from plug too. But again if you put white stopper in the “A” port I believe that is the clean water inlet and it should go in one of the auctions which I believe are both marked as B and are not very far apart from each other. And they sit at same level on the liner. The A opening sits higher on the liner but again maybe I misunderstood and you didn’t place the white rubber thing in the A filter

My blue thing doesn't fit my gray thing to screw on it they same size or my gray thing a tad bigger i dont know what size blue thing i need now 😢

We did not have to buy anything extra. I am assuming you are talking about the b side part that screws to the blue skimmer part? The blue part is for the hose adapter that is I think 1.5 inch and the grey one is for 1.25 inch.

@@brandileo9677 I only know about our pool since he did an unboxing video. Not sure about the measurement of other pool. But it’s good to know the size of the hoses as that will give you some info about what adapter you will need.

@@CJ-nw1io may be you can cut the regular plug to fit in the B side to restrict water flow? Without restricting the water flow in one side our pump was not strong enough to make the skimmer work.

I agree when I’ve purchased the intex skimmer it came with the skimmer. It’s the same thing tho as the intex plugs that are used to stop the water flow when changing the filters. In face I needed a plug one year so I put jb weld epoxy in the little whole in the white plug and used it a whole season to plug the extra suction port I don’t use. It’s shaped exactly like intex brand tho. Bestway stoppers are longer more uniform nipple appearance lol but you can get generics if you didn’t receive one just a stopper and make a hole in it. Is strange cause initially it was said to use it to slow flow on pumps that were too powerful before the dual suction came out but now as she shows in video the function is completely different. I never used it for the intended purpose that is listed now or previously. But is cause I keep one suction port plugged and unused anyway is my personal preference and I don’t have small children who may experience entrapment due to suction. Even the intex large pool suction ports have a strainer grid that screws on and has the screw holes so that children can’t remove it and they started making the old style again where the strainer grid is built into the large fitting but you can still screw the adapter on for the skimmer on large fittings it has 1 rings of threads outer and inner and adapter screws on inner also using the large pool suction I don’t need to use the aqua color caps for suction when running my intex z300 automatic vac which climbs the walls cause it’s a flatter fitting and the vac doesn’t get stuck on it. The aqua pieces pop onto the small auctions so the vac will see it as a stopping point and reverse otherwise it will get stuck. Intex doesn’t explain what those are even for but I found a diff website for intex that has a ton of faq is corporate but they also say to have pressure release button of the z300 auto vac adapter on clean water inlet in diff positions for diff size pumps but it only screws on one way for me and I can’t get it to stay pressed in and they said I need new adapter but funny cause I’ve bought like 5 or 6 of those vac already due to how low in cost I’ve been able to purchase them

I think you’ll unnecessary wear your pool frame by doing that. If you put it on and off 500 times in a year it will leave some marks / damage. Just swim around it like everyone does.

It doesn’t work well when people are in the pool due to water movement but you don’t have to take it out. They recommend not running anything when people swim but I’m guilty of using mine if it’s just me laying out on a raft or you can easily just unscrew the nut on the inside of pool and remove basket if you think a child is going to mess with it.

@@heathermelohnthereareno5505 Yeah when i used the pump that came with the pool, the suction was not strong enough to keep the mess in the skimmer. It's better to empty the skimmer before going in the pool to prevent an unpleasant experience (all the mess coming out). These days i have a 12m3/hr glass filter pump, it pumps hard enough so stuff is unable to get out 🙂

@@Engineer9736 lol my 2500 gallon per hour intex cartridge pump is so powerful that it makes my motion sensor porch light stay on! And when you remove the strainer grid (suction covering) you could easily take a hand off! When it’s in place you can’t feel much of a pull at all so when I gave my last pool and sold Them the large intex fittings, plunger valves, screw on hoses and 2500gph pump I made sure I gave them the suction port that has the screen built in. Is too dangerous if you have small kids. But I don’t and is why I use it and block off other suction. Most pumps come with pool aren’t sufficient however first one we got was summer escaped blow up ring 10x30 and it came with 539 gallon per hour pump yet when upgraded to summer waves metal frame it has 330 gallon per hour. I get my pump at academy sports 129.99. Another option is intex Corp go under replacement parts and you can get the pump motor and housing is same as buying the pump just doesn’t have warranty and hoses and it’s way cheaper. Plus academy sells the replacement screw on hoses 9.99 ea and you can’t find them for under 20.00 ea. normally. But now intex Corp is making the suction port large pool fitting again with screen built in they discontinued the screw on strainer grid for large pools. Even tho it has holes for screws to hold it in place I couldn’t ever get it lined up. So the one they have now is safer. But it’s basically same as using the fitting and small strainer grid cover screwed on the small ring of threads

We sent ours back because it doesn't work very well with an Intex easy set pool

Ya mine doesn't have any suction when I look it up and I have the intex medal frame 12x30 and the deluxe skimmer. Cannot get it to work. Literally no suction when I use that.. its the standard pump that comes with the pool
