Wow! You are the Best!! You really know your stuff and no B.S. Instant pot should have paid you to help their design team before releasing this...I bet they could have added water level markings and added the +/_ cook time feature for almost no cost, and this thing would be nearly perfect. I'll have to buy some of your cookbooks now. I'm just glad I did not have you as a teacher in H.School...you seem very nice but you would have seen right through all of my scams. ;)

Thank you. It's 2022.Nov.17 and I just bought this "Instant Zest - Rice & Grain Cooker". Tried it out this evening with a "Whole Grain" quinoa (Brand = NorQuin) that I bought at Costco. NorQuin is from Canada... and contains "Golden Quinoa" which is a variety of quinoa that is a new variety of quinoa that's grown in Canada and is completely different from the white, red, or tricolor quinoa varieties. It cooked up slightly on the dry"ish" side - but, really, only a wee bit. After all, I have only ever cooked quinoa in a pot on the stove top. I scooped the Quinoa into a bowl, drizzled it with my favourite Single Estate Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil... and it was delish !!! Bon Appetite from Mrs. Cheese in Nanaimo, BC, Canada

What is delay/start button ? I got my rice cooker the other day. I placed the rice grain with water , hit white rice , and then hit start delay . The numbers showed 59 minutes . Rice don’t cook one hour . I have instant pot and I cook rice there too. It only takes 30 minutes . So 59 minutes past , I opened the lid and it did not cook at all. What did I do wrong ? Should I just hit white rice button only?

Jennie Vu I’m in the same boat. I use this one a lot since I got it. It’s good for rice oatmeal quinoa and yesterday I mixed up rice, taco meat, can of kidney beans and taco seasoning and made dinner in it. We still have leftovers even after feeding 2 others. So it holds a lot-but it doesn’t have to. You can make smaller quantities in it and I like that

Sometimes I'm already using our 6 quart IP for the main dish but we need rice too. So I am looking at buying a second, smaller IP for making rice. After having the IP rice, I can't go back to stove top rice that was always either slightly undercooked or slightly too watery/mushy. I was going to get the Zest until the reviewer pointed out "non stick" (which typically equals chemicals that leach). So I'm going to go with the 3qt regular IP instead.

It sounds like Instant Pot dropped the ball on this one. I have a rice cooker/multicooker that does everything that this one should, 10 programs, including Saute with adjustable temps from 87-275 deg, adjustable time, delay timer, keep warm, with a ceramic inner pot. I like it better than my Instant Pot pressure cookers (I have 2). It was only 30 USD (38 CND). It's 4 yrs old now. If a rice cooker this talented can be made for this price - what was IP thinking?

The manual's recipe is both confusing and wrong. The cup of rice they refer to is the supplied measuring cup that came with the unit and not a true cup. It is actually 3/4 cup. If you use one (true) cup of rice with 1-1/4c water as the manual suggests then of course your rice will end up too dry. But if you use the measuring cup then you'll be fine. The mfr even states that the measuring lines on the inner canister are meant for the supplied (3/4) measuring cup.
