I believe he broke a string, and switched out. One of my favorite SRV songs.

Yes he did. Such a smooth transition
This is from his second and final appearance in 1989 on the PBS television show, Austin City Limits, (Austin, Texas). The other song you seriously need to check out from this appearance is Riviera Paradise which is considered Stevie's masterpiece. He's on top of his game, happy, healthy and drug/drink free. Joyful comes to mind, and it shows.
He also plays and sings Look at Little Sister with Jeff Healy. Jeff is wild, brilliant, creative and blind. He plays one hell of a duet with Stevie.

YES - this song with Jeff is brilliant!
The string broke! Loved the switch, so smooth. ♥ Glad you got to this one. I love his voice and this performance. I am the "little sister" in my family, with 5 older brothers. Sad to say only two are left alive and I'm the baby and only girl. This song would make me giggle remembering my older brothers still saying I am their little sister and I am now 73 years old. :)
There's deep feeling in ALL great music, no matter the genre, or the color of the person performing it.
He switched guitars because he had broken a string during that solo. If you have a really could ear you can hear when it happened. You would barely know though as Stevie recovered and Played through flawlessly after it breaks though if you look closely you can see the broken string out there flopping around during the last bit of the solo. Then he signals the guitar tech to bring the other guitar and switch them out which again if you hadn't seen it done you would never notice because Stevie never missed a beat.

So true. I missed it first time I saw the video
Check it out again. Our boy broke a string. Smoothest guitar switch ever.
The greatest guitarist of ALL time.
He was a kind humble man who had to struggle quite a bit in his life. He had a difficult childhood with an alcoholic, abusive father who did not approve of Stevie's obsession with the guitar. Luckily he was taken under the wing of some of the greatest bluesman who mentored him & guided his early career. When he hit the big time he always paid the most genuine respect to those men. He almost died from drugs & alcohol but had the inner strength to get clean & sober for the last 4 years of his life. He went to heaven at the top of his game; musically, physically, spiritually and emotionally! To illustrate how decent a person he really was, he insisted (to his managers disdain) that all the money earned be split evenly with his guys. This is unheard of in the music business.
He broke a string. If you go back to just before the switch when the camera focuses on his hands, you can see the broken string swinging around...Great reaction! Thanks!
I love your SRV reactions!!! He was known to be so humble. He is by far my favorite of any genre. I second the suggestion of his Rivera Paradise It is mesmerizing ❤️ And still would love for you to check out the Tin Pan Alley featuring Johnny Copeland. And please watch until the video stops. It is so heartwarming to see his obvious friendship and admiration of Johnny.
SRV ~ 🎸🐐 THE goat of all goats The second guitar was "Scotch". **Tightrope at Austin City Limits 1989**
SRV and His Band DOUBLE TROUBLE were UNIFORMLY OUTSTANDING.
Simply stated...the GOAT OF THE GOATS! 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love this one too! It's a fun tune and the 4 of them are so tight! Reese on those keys and the smoothest guitar swap ever! And yes. He didn't sing early on. Had a female blues singer in the group. But his voice is so much better than he ever thought.
Watch the video again, he introduced Reese Watters as he passed the song to him for the keyboard solo. SRV broke a string which is why he did the switch if you look again during His solo, his high E sting is dangling but he finishes the solo as he nodded to his tech guy to get him another guitar..
Reese Wynans on keys. Still plays with Joe Bonamassa
Broken string. What you saw was an amazing guitar tech. He saw the broken string and took care of business. Guitar is a Fender strat. No special name. The guitar he was playing at the beginning isn't named "number one", it was simply his favorite guitar. There was a joke among Stevie and the band calling the guitar his " First Wife". It was a 1963 Fender Strat with a neck from a 1962 strat. Stevie went through a couple of necks. ****TRIVIA**** During an MTV unplugged segment Stevie played a 12 string guitar. He was so heavy handed when he played he actually cracked the neck and he only played two songs!
Dude…… you just nailed it regarding blues and vocals….. at least the way I see it (or hear it)….your heart can hear when it’s real.
Yep, snapped a string in the middle of that solo, and I'll bet 80% of the audience didn't even notice it, looking right at him. The man doesn't miss a beat. Just plays the notes he wants on the 5 strings he had left until the swap. Of course the catch is that all 6 strings run through a floating bridge. Very often with that setup (and even occasionally on fixed bridges), if you break one string it changes the tension across all of them, and throws the tuning out. So, he was also doing things to cover for the tuning issues.
Oh yes please watch the performance of Riviera Paradise from this 1989 Austin City Limits show. If you watch this video again closely you can see the guitar string that broke flashing in the light and he looks back back to his right for his guitar tech. Double Trouble - the definition of teamwork
When he was a kid he learned how to ride a bike with no hands he played his guitar ride down the road play his guitar. Did it all the time. He was my brother and my HERO!❤❤❤❤

Stevie is a multi-tasking genius.
Tin Pan Alley with Texas Blueman Johnny Copeland….SRV’s vocals will blow you Away!
Oh and you are correct! He called the banged up guitar Number One.
SRV and Jeff Healey "Look at little sister" is a must to look at.
If you look closely just before he switched guitars, you can see the broken string flying around as he’s playing.
He broke a string, you can see it hanging. Smooth and seamless, didn't notice any change in sound.
He broke a string thats why he changed guitars
Great job! He did more singing for you. Stevie broke an E string, so he switched guitars.
For more SRV vocals please react to Ain't Gon Give Up On Love and Change It both live at The Capitol Theatre please💞✌️

The whole Capitol Theater show
He broke a string. Watch again. He played thru the solo with the broken string then switched at the break. You cannot hear the difference when the string breaks. If you didn't see it you wouldn't know he switched
I get so excited to watch Reactors see SRV break string and the flawless transition…Then, deflated when Reactor’s don’t notice.
You could call every guitar that he touched Lucky.
Before double trouble he was in a band called triple threat. The lead singer was Lou Ann Barton. He sang a few songs during the set. When she left to pursue a solo career. The remaining members change to double trouble and he became the lead singer.
He broke a string. Look closely you can see it. Check out how fast his crew member had his next guitar read . Stevie looked over at the side of the stage and seconds later a new guitar. Awesome.
Also that guitar it's called Scotch. Because I believe on the butterscotch color finish. His main guitar is called number one. Or his first wife
He was not a boastful person. A reporter ask him one time ( who was a better guitar player you or Jimmy Hendrix?) Stevie said Jimmy was better. There are interviews with S.R.V. You could look up as well an you are correct when you said he seamed to be very humble witch is unusual in this industry.
he broke a high e string, if you watch closely, you can see the dangling string, he then knods to his tech wich guitar to bring, and the broken string giutar had a new string and in tune by the time the song ended, thats how a good guitar tech rolls
stevie ray's TEXAS FLOOD is killer! id love to see you react to it if you havent
you asked about the guitar change with no apparent tune change, i can't say for sure, but he was well known for using 13-gauge string so it's possible that with all the bend's in his music style that the guitar change is simply due to more than 1 sting breaking as he was known to just keep playing if just 1 broke but if a couple broke then it would need to be replaced. The man played hard (RIP SRV)
If you go back an look real close you can see the string break.
You need to watch the documentary here on YT called "Rise of a Texas Bluesman. It's fantastic and will answer all your questions about SVR and his core band, Double Trouble. Reese is the only keyboardist he had and joined late in SVR's career.
Great reaction. I've heard he called that guitar Scotch, since it is butterscotch color.
If you look closely you can see a broken string hanging.
He had a woman lead singer at first , but she left in a huff so Steve stepped up an said I’ll do the singing. It’s all in a documentary you could find if you look. It’s a great documentary I think you would appreciate a lot.

I love your reactions brother! Keep your channel going...
Thanks, MMB - a favorite of mine.. Go Reese Wynans on keys!.. and check out that string break and PERFECT guitar switch... if you didn't see it, you would never know what happened... lol appreciate your reaction...
If you love guitarists then you really need to check out Jeff Healey!! He was a guitarist/singer, who was blind, and was SO Underrated!! You should try "See the Light" Night Music 1988. Also " As the years go passing by", "Angel Eyes", "Look at little sister (with Stevie Ray Vaughan), "When the night comes falling from the sky (from the movie Roadhouse w/ Patrick Swayze)", "Lost in your eyes", "While my guitar gently weeps", " Hoochie Coochie Man", "Confidence Man". Jeff was also a huge Jazz Man and there's lots to react to in that genre for Jeff Healey. The dude is a Legend!!!
If that guitar was yellowish, yes, it was “‘Scotch.” Short for Butterscotch!
This was bout Me. I was a Wild Child to. ❤❤
Yep he broke a string but didnt miss a beat on the switch, smoother guitar swap ever
SRV was notorious for breaking his guitar strings,..
Yep, look closely snd you’ll see the guitar string hanging right before the switch. Smooth swirch, never missed a note.
If you look closely right before the switch you can see a broken string.
He switched guitars cuz he broke a string about 7:10 and kept playing for a good 30 seconds with 5 strings. You can see the broken string flopping around.
String Broke.. you can see it pop and swing.. that one has a hula girl on the back of it.. it was given to him by his friend that died Charlie .. Stevie wrote that song life without you for..
Reese was the keyboard player and Tommy is the bass player.
Broken string, you can see it, the switch is just…. Really? RIP great one! 🔥
He broke a string on #1, if you look closely right before the switch, you'll see the string hanging.
Take it Reese 😊
It's SRV 2 guitar because it's 1989!! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🐐🐐🐐🐐😁😁😁😁😁😍😍😍😍😍😍
He dod break a string. If you watch it again you can see the stage lights shine off the dangling string. And since they were playing a gig in Austin, they're going to play more songs, might as well swap guitars.
Yep he broke a string and he used the heaviest gaged strings made he always had 3 or 4 bake up guitars on standby for a popped string. You didn’t want to grip check him😂. And he thought his voice wasn’t any good so he didn’t like to sing.
Reese Wynans is one of the best keyboard players around. Still playing. He switched because he broke a string, which you missed!
The E string breaks from bending it, thats why he wants another guitar, look close and you can see it break
If you rewatch you can see his guitar string broke so they switched it out for him.
If you want to see the keyboard player live, go see Joe Bonamassa as Reese is Joe’s keyboard player.
You need to review Tightrope, crossfire and Mary had a Little Lamb to mention just a few all this man's music was golden I wished he would have lived to be 100 you completely missed the part where he broke a string and change guitars mid-song
Watch the video right before he changes. You can see the broken strong for sailing around.
Stevie Ray broke a string.
String broke. The white guitar is "scotch". It was a prize he was giving away at one of his concerts but he loved it so he decided to give a different guitar away and kept that one.
PS I know you love the piano solo
He broke a string. If you watch carefully you will see the little silver string flashing around during the guitar solo preceding the piano solo.
If u re-watch, u can see the popped string flailing all over the place...camera picks it up well.
look closely , he broke a string, you can see it flying around, switched guitars and never missed a beat
You need to watch his Austin city Limits show..🙂
You need to watch more closely. Stevie broke a string on his 'best' guitar, looked to his right to signal a change was needed and then swapped guitars without missing a beat (or a note). Great reaction again anyways.
He broke a string watch closely
String break - also his main guitar is called "Number 1" but 'The One' sounds dope too! Check out this vid to learn about Stevie's guitars.. kzread.info/dash/bejne/i5Wh3JV_naS9mbg.html
Maaaate, now you are ready for Third Stone From The Sun at El Mocambo…. I’ll even come round and pick up your jaw for you 😉
You could plainly see the broken string
HE BROKE A STRING, IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY YOU CAN SEE IT, AND THAT'S WHY HE SWITCHED UP!!!
SRV is the G.O.A.T. no doubt. But you need to check out Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
What's up bro how you doing man I know you saw the video what you think of the guitar switch smooth broke the damn string
Love your reactions to SRV, if you wanna feel something check out Tin Pan Alley with Johnny Copeland. Outstanding performance by SRV and Mr. Copeland. Im a white guy and agree with you on the feelin thing. White people cant dance, lol. No disrespect to those with 2 left feet. Lol
He changed guitars because he broke a string, you can see it hanging in the video..
go back and watch you can see a broke a string
Hey, you love the blues, check out Janis Joplin. Start with a no brainer, Me And Bobbie McGee. Great blues singer and you won't be disappointed. She's not a "fake", and you can always tell, right?
String broke, you can see it flaying around
He broke a string.
He switched because he broke a string! Did you not see it flying around. 🤨
He did break a string I believe it was the b string (second from the bottom) atleast that's what I was told.
There are better songs in his catalog IMO - it's a good song but it doesn't move me like some others do. I still suggest listening to Long Way From Home with his older brother Jimmy. That song lifts me out of the chair!
You have to watch again clearly a broken string you can see it flapping in the wind if you watch close
He broke a string
Doyle Bramhall Sr was one of those individuals who encouraged him to sing. U2 acted like fools in Antone's in Austin one night playing and singing the blues with Stevie and Jimmie Vaughan. Total farce. Ppl were disgusted. So yes, blues isn't easy to sing or play despite being "simple".
He broke a string and kept on playing
Stevie switched guitars , because he broke a string on the guitar
Broke high E string at the second half of the solo.
String broke..
