This was my dad's favorite song. He died when I was 17 so every time I hear it I think of him. One of the best songs ever written, recorded, and performed. Period.

LOVE Bobby, and no one will ever sing like him; however, there is now another young singer whose range and beautiful, unique voice may very well outreach any male singer, and that is Dimash. People have a tendency these days to think there are no real extraordinary vocalists anymore, but if you take the time to really look for them, they ARE there, and Dimash may very well be the best there is.

Another amazing song in this realm would be Roy Orbison's "Crying" from the original single 1961 release. Masterful. Great reaction Mr. Video -- always enjoyable.

When I was 12 I could sing this song pitch perfect...by the time I was 15 i had to jump falcetto, but I could drop the low parts an octave and make it a fun jump back to falcetto. Now I'm 31 and it would take a miracle to get my voice back up in that register.

There were 20 different notes sung by Bobby in this performance ending with G5 in head voice with resonance and vibrato. In his Shindig live performance earlier that year, Bobby sang up to A5, couple of notes short of the whistle register. On his 1971 solo southern rock/blues album, Messin' in Muscle Shoals, Bobby hits several whistle notes including E6. He sings soprano range comfortably.

Tommy H No no, there was a competition. He won. Bill and Ted used their phone booth to gather everyone. Even Freddie Mercury cried when Bobby sang. Luciano Pavarotti just walked out because he couldn’t compete. Zack Golthag from Earth 2.6 shut both his mouths. It was amazing. My great great granddaughter told me about it 30 years from now.

I remember when my late, father was in Vietnam, our mother would dit by the TV to watch the news, Walter Cronkite, to see if our fathers name may come up, as being killed in action. This song was our late mothers, favorite song, mom listened eareato unchained melody in remembrance to our father, and here dear husband. Our father served with honor. A wounded veteran. They were originally called "The Paramours". While play near a Marine Base, Black Marines would shout out, "That's Righteous!" and would tell them, You are Righteous, Brother .... hence they changed their name.

Every person I've seen do a reaction of them have assumed they were brothers because of their name. I heard that when they were first starting, they had gotten a job to play at a small out of the way club. It was a place frequented by only black people. So when they went out to sing, they were laughed at and ridiculed. And then they started singing. The laughter stopped and quite a few mouths dropped open in surprise. After they finished, they heard one of the men say, "man, those brothers are righteous." Hence, the name, Righteous Brothers. Tommy Hatfield's vocal range is amazing. I read an interview he did where he said he was very nervous because his mother was in the audience. All I could think was, that's how he sings when he's nervous!

It's been said that both of them wanted to sing this song so it was decided by a coin toss & Bobby won. :-) This is what we call blue eyed soul...The great Bobby Hatfield (RIP) - he did this in one take with a live audience, also in front of his parents, no autotune or computer aided post production enhancements - just pure talent. I was born two years after this performance, but I always heard it being played at home & on the radio. It's been one of my all time favorite songs since I was a young kid. It is considered to be one of the greatest love songs ever composed. It has been covered many times over by other great artists, but Bobby Hatfield's version is probably the most well known & beloved the world over. It was used as the main love theme for the movie GHOST starring Demi Moore, Patrick Swayze, & Whoopi Goldberg. This was definitely Bobby's signature song, as no other can match his performance - so smooth & melodic, such a one of a kind ethereal voice that can make any lady (or man) swoon.This is baby makin' music. My late uncle used to call this song "a guaranteed panty dropper" RIP Bobby Hatfield... and Uncle Bernie.

Bill and Bobby always did one solo on each of there albums and while on tour. They both wanted to do Unchained, so they flipped a coin. The music was written as the theme for the little-known prison film “Unchained” (January 1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers. The movie “Unchained” is about a man in prison and longing for his wife and children. Hoping his wife will still be there when he gets out. So you can now understand the meaning of the song. The movie was not very good, or so my friends told me. But we were all teenagers so what did we now. Several artists sang it and it made the billboard top 100. But no one can come close to Bobby Hatfield’s version. Bobby’s version hit the top ten chart. And did it again when it was used in the movie “Ghost” It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by Bobby. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages.

This guy, his voice only gets richer in his lower registers, his voice is lilting and playful in the melody, and lofts into the stratosphere as effortless as anything. I still haven't caught him breathing like a normal human being usually does.

Well they both wanted to do this song so they flipped a coin. Bobby said he was really nervous because his parents were in the audience along with Bill. This has been called the best live pop performance ever. Bobby sadly died many years ago. Bill is still singing, sometimes with his daughter. Bill said in an interview once that they got their name when they were performing near a marine base in Calif. A black marine in the audience after a song yelled out "that was righteous brothers", and after the show they were meeting audience members and signing autographs etc and that same marine waited to meet them and when he was walking up to them said Hey righteous brothers. The version sung in the film is a completely different mood. It’s so sad. The guy singing really brings out all of the pain and longing behind the words. Men in prison who have no idea if anyone is waiting for them if/when they are freed.

Bobby Hatfield really shows his class with this song. Bobby owes this song. Thank you for this gift. R.I.P.

Patrick Swayze. Houston, Tx. boy. He learned to dance at his Mother's dance studio there and the movie (Dirty Dancing) made him a star. People Magazine named him The Sexiest Man Alive in 1991. Got married moved to LA but sadly died of Pancreatic Cancer in 2009. Nice guy.

After hearing and seeing this I will think of no one but Bobby Hatfield when this plays. Love Patrick Swayze, but Bobby Hatfield took this performance to another level . Mesmerizing. Singing like an angel- an angel with soul. RIP

Bobby sang it so beautiful.

After a two year stint in Vietnam,my husband was sent to Las Vegas. He used to sit in clubs and listen to the Righteous Brothers…show after show. As long as they kept buying drinks they could be there all night…and they did! He LOVED these guys!

That was the day of smooth music! :-)
