Unbelievable | Official Trailer | Netflix

Ойын-сауық

Inspired by real events, a teen reports and eventually recants her reported rape, while two female detectives, states away, investigate evidence that could reveal the truth.
Based on The Marshall Project and ProPublica Pulitzer Prize-winning article, "An Unbelievable Story of Rape," written by T. Christian Miller and Ken Armstrong, and the This American Life radio episode, “Anatomy of Doubt”, with episodes directed by Oscar nominees Susannah Grant and Lisa Cholodenko, "Unbelievable" is a story of unspeakable trauma, unwavering tenacity, and astounding resilience.
Showrunner Susannah Grant executive produces the series, from CBS Television Studios, along with Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly, Lisa Cholodenko, Ayelet Waldman, Michael Chabon, Katie Couric, Richard Tofel, Neil Barsky, Robyn Semien, and Marie.
If you or someone you know has experienced sexual violence, call RAINN's National Sexual Assault Hotline at 800.656.HOPE (4673) or visit online.rainn.org.

“If the truth is inconvenient they don’t believe is true”.. I can totally relate. I was assaulted when I was 13 and when I finally got a courage to tell an adult, she said “are you sure that was what happened? Maybe he didn’t mean to touch you that way, maybe you were misunderstood...” Days and even months after the incident, I kept asking myself what did i do wrong? Did I dress provocatively that day? Did I somehow send him a wrong signal? My grades were dropped significantly that semester, my parents mad at me because I did so bad at school, I got nervous all the time when I’m around male adults beside my dad, and of course I got depressed. It took me a whole year to recover and it took me even longer to finally forgive myself and convinced myself that it wasn’t my fault. Now that I’m an adult, I tell my little niece to always tell me if somebody did something uncomfortable to her or touch her inappropriately and I swear myself that I’d never doubt her. Little girls don’t lie about this thing and yes, sexual assault is something that people don’t get over with easily, I hope that everyone, especially law enforcers, realizes this and work harder to prevent this bad thing happen to anyone.. Good job, Netflix!

@@HWForRealzzzz I don't know why they do it there 😅 don't know what you have to do that netflix is promoting a series lot. Selena gomez is involved in the production so maybe it's a "bigger think", don't know how much money they spending for promoting. And 13 reasons why was an popular book first, so maybe it was "worth it" to promote it a lot, cause people loved the books and were really hyped to see a series and maybe it is not that "sensitive" like unbelievable. I mean don't get me wrong (mental illness is also a big topic in my life so of course it is sensitiv for me but if I compare just the trailer I think that unbelievable was little bit "harder" to watch) By the way I also don't get why people were shocked because of 13 reasons why... That sounds really strange now but it was really unrealistic and people could not learn "how to suicide" because it was just stupid (say it again it is also a big topic in my life and I know what it mean when someone is losing a person because of suicide). And I guess I get more triggered when I hear that a person (like an vip) killed themselves then watching 13 reasons why. But to watch unbelievable for me is really disgusting (also the raping scenes in 13 reasons why were lot harder to see then the suicide scene and I guess it was because it was so unrealistic)

Episode one is exactly the reason victims stay silent. It’s the reason I was silent for twenty years. What the police did to the victim was unforgivable. You don’t take a traumatized person and re-traumatize them over and over again. Sadly, this is how a lot of victims are treated. I’m only in episode two, victim two but there’s already a huge difference in the way the victim is being treated by the detective.

The fact that two women detectives crack down the case, made me so happy. I feel like wether it be a police officer, detective, councilor, doctor, nurse, everyone of them should be empathetic and sensitive towards the victims. I mean they only need a little help and support, they want someone to believe them that yes this shit happened with me and I can’t lie about it. Human in general need to show compassion, love, generosity. The fact Maria had to recollect the event again and again a million times to the officers made me mad. Paintedgamer You obviously are ignorant to the statistics of how many rapes are false accusations or not. A man is more likely to be raped then a woman is likely to falsely accuse a man of rape. That’s a VERY small percentage. And even then, if a woman only decides to stop the investigation due to harassment or pressure placed upon her by the aggressor or even the public, it’s considered a “false accusation”, even though she was in fact raped. So please stop spreading false information, it’s spreads like wildfire to stupid people.

I’m just annoyed at how dumb she is in the series, so unrealistic. I think it's absolutely possible that it happend the way it was shown. Just think of how much pain she must have been through. Not only because of the rape but with all the other abuse in her past. I think you can literally see her giving up on trying to tell the truth, cause nobody seems to care about what she says. She's never been taken seriously, even when she opend up about the worst thing ever happened to her. Just trying to imagine what it must feel like to tell so many strangers about being raped, about being touched without having agreed to it..it terrifies me. She has to do this over and over again without somebody actually asking her how she is feeling or what she needs. Nobody really stood by her side the way that she needed it and then she even gets accused of lying. I think I would have reacted quite the same as she did. She just lost hope in people, like she said it in the end.

Catriona Nightingale She had so many friends and mentors with her that opened up and cared, that was the whole reason why her friends started to become negative towards her. She had a lot of backup and bestfriends showing support. The series doesn’t show how it actually would of happen. The officers could of mislead her with questions, but in todays society it doesn’t happen that a grown man in uniform is basically screaming and is accusing a little girl of lying... I mean think about that, no one is ever gonna do that in reality. An officer asked the weong questions at the wrong time and she got confused and wanted out so she said what the department wanted just so she could get home and breath

  • @ihavegreatcomments8532

Catriona Nightingale The thing is that she has so many oppurtunities to change what she did wrong. There is media evidence that a serial rapist is out there and she has a lawyer, it is just stupid to not tell her lawyer that was so friendly that the officers put words in her mouth. No one would ever risk getting jail time for protecting a secret that isn’t even a secret. With her withdrawing that statement she was just treated like shit by everyone, her friends/family. It is just so unrealistic avout that. It is human nature to survive and not be locked in a cage like an animal, and she risks it because of what? No reason at all. It just makes me mad that they did such a bad job on that part

I fully agree with you about the detectives, BUT I also recognize the tough truth that in many cases, officers who make mistakes like that and recognize they messed up are less likely to make mistakes like that in the future. Letting officers learn from these mistakes can help these people to be better officers in the long run. As they say, people learn from making mistakes. That's a tough pill to swallow when it comes to police officers, but it's important to do so. I'd rather have police officers working in my community who have made mistakes and learned from them, as opposed to officers who have yet to make those mistakes.

As someone who has been through something similar ,this show is hard to watch . I never told anyone except my mom years later. Part of the reason was because of the shame and I was scared I would not be believed. This is the sad reality a lot of people face. I applaud netflix for taking a risk on this show . I think everyone should see it .

Jus binged the entire show and wow I can’t express my feelings on how amazing this show is. You couldn’t help but feel so much anger for all the victims, I found myself fuming over Marie’s situation. From the beginning you could see how emotionless and interrogation like situation she was put in by the cops. I so badly wanted to see the detectives reach out to marie but the fact that the story was told parallel made it so much more realistic and authentic because while we have some great cops out there being sympathetic and warm toward victims there are some instances of the opposite and accusations toward victims. This show is one of Netflix’s best original shows, I will be buying the book that went along with this now to read more about the real life events!

i was sexually assaulted by my dad friend, and also my own cousin. i didn't tell anybody cause i was scared and i just don't know how. i dont really know how i got through it but somehow my brain wants me to forget about what happens when i was young and i lived by just fine. (of course when we moved somewhere far) until i became an adult and remember some of it. that's why sometimes i get mad at my dad because he really trust his friends and kind to them. i mean, I'm a girl. used to be a cute little girl but that doesn't mean you can leave ur own daughter with an adult man that you don't even really know who they really are. and i promise to myself that i won't ever let my child alone with some friends like how it happens to me. when i grow up i finally got the courage to tell my mom about it and she is pissed, and blame my dad for being reckless. yeah and also why i didn't tell anyone about it when it happens? i mean, idk how to cause i was soo young and scared? glad somehow i got over it because when we moved out i got a positive surrounding and friends. maybe that's why it helps me forget about it. nobody should be feeling like this and experience it.

Not entirely true. Insurance scams are common so all avenues are explored before someone is paid out. How often do you see failing businesses burn to the ground or someone behind on car payments has their car stolen and torched. Everything is possible therefore everything is questioned. Just the way it is.

Absolutely heartbreaking watch-Binged all 8-episodes and felt every moment of the frustration, fear, anger & ultimate resolve and somber joy depicted by each actor. The young girl sooo believable in her portrayal of hurt and social disassociation, fractured spirit and distrust for the very systems and peoples *paid to ensure her safety and well-being. I LOVED this story and would love to see if continue (mirroring HBO’s True Detective series). The writing, acting, directing...all spectacular (no actor overshadowed the other). Finally the 8-episodes were just enough....
