    In cricket everything is deliberate and planned. Fielders are positioned in specific areas and the bowler bowls in a specific way to get the batsman to edge the ball. The batsman does not know what is being planned for him.

    Think of it like different formations offense runs in American football. When the conditions favor the bowler, the fielding side will leave one side open to entice the batsman to play in that side while bowling away from that angle to catch him lacking or catch the edge of the bat to the other side. There is layers of depth in this game and I effing love it

    I still hold the Schoolboy catch record since 1982! for all Schools in The City of Birmingham UK! 16 catches in 11 matches! I fielded at a position called 2nd Slip, behind n to the side of the batsman....I've always had super fast reflexes! My record will never be broken! My greatest catch even shocked me at how fast my arm hand shot out and caught the ball!! It was instinct, the batsman just stared at me on shock! I'll be honest, it was almost superhuman, my team mates were even laughing in shock! I still don't know how I reacted that fast; I guess the brain is prepared to react as fast as possible, then sometimes it just happens so fast by instinct, you don't even have time to really think about it, it just happens.🙏👍

    No 4 catch - where fielders are lined up behind batsman - to understand this I recommend to watch that particular match highlights where Stuart broad demolished Australian batting line-up. Whenever there is lot of assistance from the pitch to fast bowlers, captains will go aggresively against oppsition batsmans and will ask his majority of his team members to stand behind batsman (called slips & gully) to get them out cheaply. Would suggest to watch any highlights of ashes series (ENG vs Australia) for better understanding.

    The middle part of a cricket field where the pitches are, (called the 'square' or 'table) can be very hard. In hot, dry conditions going for low catches can be virtually like diving on concrete! Some fielders wear 'skins' under their short-sleeve shirts to help reduce scraping skin off elbows and forearms, badly, when diving there.

    The fielders were all In line because it’s a strategy in the game where the captain (skipper) takes the decision after talking with the bowler. If the captain decides to take early wickets, they’ll have an offensive field position. One of those field positions is having 2 or more fielders in the slips (back) in line

  • @yashassridharan5504
    @yashassridharan5504 Жыл бұрын

    You get that line of fielders (catchers/slips) behind the bowler when the bowler is trying to curve (swing in cricketing terms) or seam the ball away from the right hander. So when the ball curves out, and it doesn't hit the middle of the bat and takes an edge, it will most likely end up in the hands of those fielders in a line. Especially the red ball swings or curves much more than the white ball. This tactic is used mainly at the beginning when the ball is fresh and new and swings more, or to bowlers (pitchers) when they come to bat as they are not really good at the same.

    As for the line of fielders that area is called the slips fielder and just like in baseball batsmen do miss hit the ball at times and that area is usually where most miss hits go that's the area where a lot of catches end up going

  • @apoorvasharma8147
    @apoorvasharma8147 Жыл бұрын

    Hey guys it's very difficult to hit the ball when a ball pitches at certain region (good length region, it covers 6-8m ahead of the wicket) of a pitch. And that balling delivery is called as "good length ball". That's why when batsmen tries to hit the ball he sometimes fails and ball either hits edge of the bat and goes behind. That's why those fielders are placed behind the batsmen in order to take catches or stop the ball.

    8:14 they were in the line because when in test match cricket when the ball is new the bowler can out swing the ball and the ball just goes away from the batsman and it might get an edge of the bat while moving away from the batsman creating the chance of a catch in that line. That fielders are known as slip fielders because the area where they are standing is known as slip position hope you will find this informative

    the fielders standing in line in whites is test cricket (a format of cricket). generally the bowler's skill mixed with the pitch's (the part of ground on which ball is pitched or bounced) characteristic makes the ball to move . the batsman doesn't play deliberately there. the ball touches the edge of the bat and flies . basically batsman tries to play on the other side but he mistimes it due to reasons mentioned above. in cricket like tennis, in various countries, the characteristic of the ground is different due to the soil etc and due to that the ball in some countries bounces more , in some countries it swings and in some it spins more

    The long line behind the bat was probably because the ball was moving about (either off the seam or in the air) and the batsmen were struggling too hit the ball where they wanted to, just trying to fend the ball off and not get out, or the batsmen were bowlers (tail enders) whose batting skills were limited

    I think cricket is the only sport where you can see this. The bowling team can set players as they like in the field, considering the rules of the game, but at the same time the bowler can make the batsman to play shot where the fielder is placed.

  • @shrayfitstayfit1202
    @shrayfitstayfit1202 Жыл бұрын

    8.15 you are asking why they are in line? It's the field placement for the Tailenders (Batsman who aren't that good) or protect very less runs. This is an aggressive tactic by the bowling team. Also, if you are wondering why the guy can't hit it in another direction, it's a lot to do with the line the bowler is bowling in. So yeah, it's all strategised.

The batsmen don’t hit there by choice. It’s because it hits the edge. The ball moves and like that when it is new, when the pitch is green and when the air is humid.

    To add to that, because the guy in the video said why doesn't the batsman just play it to a different part of the field. The batsman would do it if he could but the bowler bowls the ball at a certain line and swings it outside the off stump making it harder for the batsman to play anywhere else. That shot too where he got out, he wasn't intending to play it in the direction the ball went. It is all tactics.

    At 8:05 the captain and the bowler have decided on what they have seen so far, that there are likely to be 'edges' as the ball moves off the pitch or in the air, they are confident there will be catches flying off behind the wicket. So they want extra 'slip fielders' in the area beside the wicket-keeper which is known as the 'slips'. In test cricket (white clothing) like this (England vs Australia) wicket-keepers get most catches followed by first, second, third (and so on) slip fielders. The batsman who was caught didn't choose to hit it there; it was a very good ball and he just couldn't control where it went off the bat. The bowler, Stuart Broad, of England, took 8 wickets out of the 10, that morning which is rare and remarkable! Australia were bowled out for 60 in 90 minutes on the first morning of the match; even with a second innings to come later they never recovered and lost easily. Fielding in the slips is a real specialist position; it's difficult and needs lots of practice even for the very talented fielders. It requires real stamina and concentration as well; in a test match you could stand there all day (there are breaks of course) for six hours and get a catching chance in the last five minutes of the day and you have to catch it if you possibly can.

    1:55 They practice Fielding a lot & Cricketers sort of grow up on the Cricket Field, so they're quite comfortable on the it. 6:08 There are many flying catches in this compilation & they're just wonderful to watch. I call such flying catches as the Flying Fieldsman. 8:06 The Fielders are sll their as they expected the Batsman to hit or edge the Ball over there. The Batsman knows the Fielders are there waiting for the Ball, he definitely wants to hit away from them but it's not that simple. Good Bowling skills include making the Batsman play the shot you want him to play which leads the Ball right to a Fielder, a good Bowler like Stuart Broad does this pretty well. 10:06 A lot of the time they do know where the Batsman may hit a Ball but the Fielding side don't want the Batsman to know that, so the Fieldsman in such a situation will simply run towards the sport he's expecting the Ball to be hit & the Bowler too Bowls a delivery that the Batsman will hit in that area. It takes lot of practice, planning & precision coz they're not always successful in getting the Wicket. 10:46 The Fieldsman? This surprised me a bit coz it almost made me think you're not American but someone from a Cricketing nation like an Australian or English.

    You see in cricket there are 3 formats of games, ODI (One Day International - which consists of 50 overs. 1 over has 6 deliveries or 6 balls as they say), T20 (same as ODI but with 20 overs. It's fast paced ) and then Test Format (the ones in which players are all in white.) In Test format, there is no limit to the number of overs you can play, but a single test match is 5 days long and both teams need to have done 2 innings (Batting 2 times and bowling 2 times for both teams) they need to play 90 overs per day minimum for five days and the next team plays when 10 wickets are taken or the innings end. So they're lining up because in test, play play to conserve their energy by playing technically to last 5 days which includes them fielding so the format plays a huge role in fielding and bowling

  • @write2pras84
    @write2pras84 Жыл бұрын

    @8:00 they are deliberately standing there because the bowler is trying to entice the batter into playing a particular kind of shot which is hard to control and has a high chance that the ball catches the edge of the bat and goes to one of those standing in the line behind. The conditions of the pitch, the weather, the skill level and type of the bowler, the skill level of the batsman, the stage the match is in, the time of day, even the age of the ball (i.e. brand new or used for several overs already) all have a part to play in the tactics chosen on the field.

    I would say for catch no 4 where they were standing in line bcz when weather is windy or overcast then bowl start moving and it’s difficult for batsmen to handle it. There are more chances that batsmen will get edges on the bowl and it will go into the hand of that line. That line called as Slips Slip 1, Slip 2,3,4 and gully. I want you guys to react on IPL catches.

  • @jamesbuesnel5054
    @jamesbuesnel5054 Жыл бұрын

    In cricket the new ball swings around especially in England which is very hard for batsmen to play. At the beginning of the innings they will bowl to try and get swing or movement off the seam to get an edge to the wicketkeeper or slips (the guys in a line). They will set it up with many guys in a line and bowl like this if there is a lot of movement will the ball. Every 80 overs the fielding team has the option to get another new ball, so the first 20-40 overs are particularly dangerous. There are 6 balls from the bowler in an over. As the ball gets older it usually gets easier to bat as the ball doesn't swing or move as much, however there is the chance later on that the ball may reverse swing 😂 it's actually a complicated art bowling and batting is really hard and you need discipline as you can be batting all day in the hit sun as it is played in summer. It's not like baseball with the innings constantly change over. Thereis only 2 innings max for both teams over a 5 day period for test cricket. 50 over And 20 over cricket is different. Teams want to bat usually for 1-2 days in a test match to get a big score however if you get a lot of the batsmen out quickly an innings can not be very long

    In test match cricket the fielding side can put their fielders in any position. To attack the Batman according to their playing style. But in the one day cricket Or in t20 their is seperate rules. Their is batting powerplay Or bowling powerplay in both 50 and 20 over cricket match. In which you have minimum fielders in batting powerplay outside to stop boundaries. In t20 it's upto 1 to 6 over batting powerplay and in 50 over it's upto 1 to 10 over.

    Players staning In a line is called Slip Fielding. Its a part of strategy in the cricket fielding. The strategy of placing more than 2 fielders in a line is more often seen in Test Matches than in one day or T20 cricket matches. Fielders will take Positions like Slip 1, Slip 2, Slip 3, Slip 4 and more if required. All these are strategic positions oftely used when the ball is swinging (changing its direction in the air after ball is beging boweld by Fast bowler). It is difficult for a batsmen to hit the ball throuh its line as it diflects its direction after it pitching on the ground than what the batsman expects for him to reach. so it deceives the batsmen and there is very good chance of ball taking the edge of the bat and fly in the directions of the slip fielders placed and get batsman out. In cricket its not just like bowler bowls the ball, batsmen hit it and fielders does their job. Its very dynamic game and lot of things are taken in consideratin before players get ready for the action. In Cricket the PITCH (where the action of bowling and batting takes place) will paly very Crucial role. Whole game depends on this. Upon considering this factor only the teams will strategize like selecting the specialist palyers to paly in that particular match like if the pitch supports spin bowlers they opt for specialist spin bowlers and also opt for specialist batsmans who plays spin bowling well and if pitch supports swing well then does the same with selecting team in that prospect and fielding positons also strategized accordingly. Its not easy for a batsmen play freely when the ball is swinging or spinning in test matches because red ball (red leather ball is used for only test matches and white leather ball for both one day and T20's) does extreme diflections than white ball for long period in the game. and Pitch is treated by pitch curator as he develops a spin track or swing track in advantge to the home team to challenge visitor team. Hope you understand about felding positions and Pith a bit now. There are other factors like Toss, weather, flow of wind, fastness of out field, dew factors (makes difficult for bowler to grip the ball when there is dew on the field and outfield becomes slippery for fieldes. so toss plays crucial role here) and many more will be taken into consideration to play particular formant of a game of a cricket.

    The fielders in a line are called The Slips....... the bowler will be curving the ball through the air or getting it to jag a bit after landing on the ground and trying to nick the edge of the bat with it by deceiving the batsman... if the ball catches the edge of the bat it will naturally go to where all those men are lining up. As a general rule the fielding team place their men on the field depending on how the bowler is going to bowl and where the batsman is most likely to hit the kind of ball being bowled .........

    😊 pitchers can swing ball in any direction with the help of speed n finger position with the help of wrist movement according to that he sets fielders position so pitchers know if i bowl in this angle I'll make batsman to hit this kind of stroke and he sets his field so he can catch n that's how pitcher gets him out

    If a bowler delivers the ball on the right angle and bounce it at the right point with a slight outward seem or swing motion it is pretty predictable that the ball will be edged to someone in the slip area. That's why they stand in a line like that. It's basically a trap being set...

    When they line all the fielders like that, it usually happens in test and it is usually because bowling team has a score that they think cant be chased. Lets say bowling team is defending 450 runs on last day of a test. Batting team has to score 451 runs. They can either try to do and lose wickets in the process and lose the game or they can just bat for whole day and force a draw, which is better than losing the game. Whereas bowling team can decide if they want a draw or a win, they can either field defensive fielding (for draw) or line up like that, enticing batsman with that much open space only problem is bowler will keeping the ball onto the opposite side of batsman. Now a batsman can still a force a shot on legside while ball is on offside but problem with that is, its lot harder and there is higher probability of getting caught.

    You tasked about fielders all in a row. As you know the fielder immediately behind the wickets is the keeper (wicket keeper). He usually has gloves.

The ‘line’ of fielders you mentioned are ‘slips’. They’re numbered. The one closet to the keeper is 1st slip, then 2nd slip, and so on.
You can have one, two, three, four, or whatever. The reason they’re there is because the bowler is bowling to the batsman in such a way as to force him to hit, or knick, or even just deflect the ball in that direction.

    Often trying to make the Batsman make awkward shots, the bat is not flat but slightly curved. You have .5 of a second to adjust your body and play your shot, hitting the ball anything but centre of your bat (from top to bottom) will increasingly add more deviation. If you hit the ball with the edge of your bat or the ball hits your bat you have little or no control where the ball might go! The Batsman wants to hit the ball direct 'south 'of his handle. The bowler wants to hit the wickets or slow the batsman's scoring rate down which piles on pressure and invites recklessness especially with the talk of those looking to put you off! or constantly invite bad decisions where you try to hit balls in the wrong way. When there are people crowded around it's normally a spin bowler, the spin bowler maybe smashed for a good few runs but given the shape of the bat a miss timed shot will spin off, often not very hard or fast to those waiting close by...

    Guys, you should try and get a game of cricket. Its slowly taking off in the states. I was super lucky that despite growing up in Scotland (which actually means: WTF is cricket? - lol) one of my friends had kin in the W. Indies and he introduced my friends and I to cricket. Playing is so much better than watching and you'll love the game more. If you play with an actual cricket ball....pad up!

    He didn't hit in that area, it's just when the ball is new it tends to move more sideways and thus high chances of getting an edge of the bat when the batter is trying to hit in different area, and that's why more no. Of people standing in that area to get the catch. So, in test cricket or red ball cricket ur best option is to leave the ball, the best opening batters in test are actually those are better at leaving balls outside the wicket area. It will be surprising for u guys but u will get around it, so stick with cricket.

    They didn't hit in that area, it is called an edge, where it hits the outside of the bat as the batsman misplayed it. That is why all those people are behind the batsman, especially when the wicket is green and it moves off the wicket or moves in the air.
