Amaury is so very modest. I am married to a cabinet maker, who often bemoans the lack of interest and skill in the younger generation and it is certainly not something that Amaury suffers from. He is a master cabinetmaker in every sense of the word. The Dutch Chateau was absolutely amazing and the two gentlemen were charismatic! Oh your life!

I grew up watching “this old house” with my dad all the time. I always was so interested in the wood work. However I never had a wood shop class of the sort growing up so I never learned. Didn’t have equipment. I guess I could have went to a trade school but it wasn’t in the cards for me. Interest is there but I don’t think schools give enough practical/trade route classes :/

You were right to call Amaury a ‘master’ because his work is definitely master quality! You are so lucky to have him as your on site carpenter and general contractor. Then of course you also have Phillip as a master decorator, and Kirstie,Pavlina as gardeners. They are all gems!

You might want to consider trading peacock eggs with the other chateau to increase the genetic diversity of both flocks.

Amaury, don’t be so humble that cover is fantastic! The pride you take shows in your work. Well done.

Love how quietly proud of himself Amaury is with how he created the cover. It's so refreshing to see someone not only enjoy their craft but also being able to take a compliment and to see themselves they did a good job without having a big head.

I hope Amury is getting paid well as he has done so much to modernize and fix so much around the chateau. He is a man worth his weight in gold and so much more. I love watching him work. I rarely leave comments, however, in the winter doldrums of New Jersey, USA, you, Stephanie, are the cure. You are always so upbeat and happy! It’s a spoonful of medicine for me. Thank you for that. 💕

Recently some tea was spilled about life at Lalonde behind the scenes. If ex-alumni need to voice their judgements online and in the same breath return to Lalonde to visit. It doesn't make sense. Stephanie gave me hope 3 years ago by chatting with me online when I discovered I had breast cancer. She was very kind to a complete stranger. I was still in hospital after spending 5.5 months and then discovered the cancer. Thank you, Stephanie and friends for giving me hope and faith.

Amaury has the most spotless workshop I have ever seen. He is so talented. The gardens are going to be beautiful. Can't wait to see the castle.

Amaury has done it again. Amazing craftmanship once more. And as an Art Deco / Roaring 20's addict, I am just in love with the designs of these radiators' covers...

Amaury coming thru the door. Lightening our lives again

Wow! Amaury did a fantastic job building the radiator cover. We love that he even created a spray booth for the painting of it. We also love your father’s painting and its placement on the wall. You truly feel as if you can step right into it. We wish you and Phillip a wonderful visit in the Netherlands! After a 3 year delay because of Covid lockdowns we are finally going to Amsterdam this April. It was nice to see the daffodils blooming there. @@deesa3500 To be fair it was announced that there will only be 1 vlog per week in January and one of the Patrons was kind enough to comment that it would be the same for February. I have to admit I also wish they would be spread out more evenly. After being hooked on daily vlogs in December, I suspect this felt like a very long dry spell for many. Still very much appreciated!

Amaury is a genius.I love your father’s painting it’s so colourful. The castle looks so beautiful .

If you're in a rush, a credit card, library card etc works great to remove frost from the windshield. As long as it's hard plastic with a bit of flex. My library card expired 10 years ago but it's still in use every winter. I'm not sure if it's faster than the actual thing meant to scrape the frost off, but it does a way better job at getting all the frost in its path off in one pass.

Nothing like the Dutch hospitality. I've been to NL to buy horses and the people were lovely. Four males? John, Paul, George, & Ringo!

I noticed that you used the word carpentry to describe what Amaury does... I am an industrial wood worker I learned in the 80s when I was younger and was told 1st day that carpenters build framed houses, woodworkers do the cabinetry, panellled doors built in cabents etc. Amaury is doing such a beautiful job and the clip of him making the radiator cover was a joy to see.

I'm always puzzled why, with so many musicians in the house and so much music out of copyright, we're not hearing piano renditions of some wonderful old classic? So interesting as always.

OMG Amaury matched the wallpaper pattern in the corner behind the radiator cover! What attention to detail. LOL Nick's tea cozy head wear. My goodness, the Dutch kasteel. That magnificent piano and the workings! Oh, peacocks. The baby zebra did make me take a step back.

Amaury is an absolute legend he is so talented you are so lucky to have him.

Amaury never ceases to amaze me. He is so highly skilled, and has a wonderfully helpful personality.

Wow! Amaury's work is BEAUTiful - so impressive, and I love watching him work, with such skill and precision. One can tell how much he enjoys creating these things. Is he going to do all the radiators? Also, love the three women 'manning' the garden, with such pleasure and excellent planning. In the early day it looks so peaceful and fresh out there..

This vlog brought back so many memories of my last OS trip. We stayed in Maastricht for 10 days with a local friend and visited Kasteel Arcen. This was a side trip from our base in SW France (near Rochechoart, Richard the Lionheart territory) where my travel buddy’s sister has two homes in a tiny little village of Vayres. She is a retired accountant who retrained as a cabinetmaker so it was even more memory provoking to see Amaury working his magic. What a craftsman! The garden at Lalande is looking stunning. In Canada when we break our windshield brush and scraper we pull out an old preferably expired store/credit card and remove the ice so we can get on the road. Loved this vlog, the downstairs loo radiator furnishings, the painting in the office, the new duvet cover , the trip to Philip's parents the wonderful welcome at the castle - just all of it. x

Oh this is such a treat!!! We were at a campsite last year and we visited the gardens of castle Arcen. Because we were with a small group, and I was the only one who wanted to see the castle inside, so ... we decided not to go in. And now I can see it after all 😃 We have a foto at the entrance were you had to wait with the van. It was spring and lovely whether. Ducks and flowers al around us. Hello all at the chateau! Amuery, you are a genius. The gardens are shaping up, and Stephanie is always fun to watch.

A very enjoyable vlog! The two men at the castle were so friendly and nice people. I like the placement Phillip did with the painting, it is perfect 😍

Dogs have much better hearing than we humans do. I have often wondered if people put on protective hearing devices when they work with loud tools should not a dog who is spending its time around loud tools also have ear protection?? Not getting after you but did check Amazon and they do have ear protection for dogs. :)

Love the tree wallpaper! What made Amaury decide to become a carpenter? How long has he been one? Where did he study? Was it passed down in the family? My grandpa was a carpenter in the second half of his life in a new country. He renovated houses, built a cottage, fixed up cars to resell, fixed anything that needed fixing, and was a pilot in the first part of his life during WW2. He would fly into my grandmother's city to pick her up and then they would fly to eat in a different country, like for a special dessert in Paris, and other cities. That is how they dated, flying here and there. He was also a swing kid. My grandmother was an athlete when she was younger. A swimmer. Later, she was a talented seamstress, and cross-stitched patterns to make table cloths. I have so many! She would gift them to people she liked. She made all of my clothes up until I was about 11! She was also a great cook and made the best desserts I have ever tasted. That generation had lots of skills and lifetimes. XO

I am forever & repeatedly in awe of Amaury's skill, patience, and work ethic. He has made great use of his time since the ceiling beam disaster put the paneling restoration work on hold in the Grand Salon but I'm glad to wait for the strengthening work on the main beams for the delayed gratification of seeing the Grand Salon paneled and decorated not to mention the new heating system!
