Lord, when will you come and restore me? v.3
Today's Scripture: Psalm 6
Are we there yet? Not yet. Are we there yet? Not yet. We repeated this with our young children on long trips. Our two oldest children still ask us this. If I had a coin for every time they asked the same thing, I would have a mountain of coins today. It was a question my kids were obsessed with, but I was also obsessed with thinking: Are we there yet? And the answer was: not yet, but soon.
Truth be told, most adults ask a variation of this question, even without saying it out loud. But we ask for the same reason: we are tired, and our eyes are dim with sadness (Psalm 6:7). We are exhausted “from groaning” (v.6) from the nightly news, daily frustrations at work, endless health and relational problems, and the list goes on… We scream, are we there yet? “Lord, when will you come and restore me? (v.6).
The psalmist knew this type of tiredness well and, sincerely, questioned the Lord. Like a loving father, God heard David's plea and, in His great mercy, accepted it (v.9). David was not ashamed to question. We too can boldly approach our heavenly Father with our sincere supplications asking Him, “When will You come?” and his answer might be: “Not yet, but soon. I am kind. Trust in me!".
