In a world full of lies telling the truth has consequences.

There’s a difference between justifying something and suggesting why it might have happened. With his ‘vacuum’ comment Guterres was simply implying _why_ Hamas might have attacked Israel (decades of oppression and occupation); he wasn’t supporting that attack or suggesting it was the right thing to do. If he were justifying it he would have supported it, implicitly or explicitly. There can be no justification for what Hamas did, but it’s perfectly understandable given the wider historical context in which it happened, and that’s all Guterres was saying.

How can anyone view the hundreds of rockets on Gaza on our tv screens without humanity. Heartbreaking to see people buried alive under destroyed buildings and no one in Israel has any sympathy with the Palestinians.

The misinterpretations come from this narrative created by the West that we must support Israel at all costs and anything that goes against Israel's views is an act of terrorism Our goal should not be to pick a side, Israel or Palestine, like it's some kind of Super Bowl final or a UFC fight. Sadly for the Palestinians, they have next to zero power on the diplomatic stage, so Hamas is in a sense the only voice they have. The international community is to blame as over the years they have not intervened properly when land is occupied illegally by Israel, they tend to only bark when conflict breaks out and innocent Israelis are threatened
