Choji's fighting style has him jump around because everyone in Shishitoren are named after animals. Shishitoren itself translates to Lion's Head. Choji - The "To" in Tomiyama means rabbit/Tomiyama means Rabbit Ear Mountain. Togame - Game/Kame means Turtle Sako - The Ko means Fox. Arima - Ma means Horse Kanuma - Ka means deer.

I wouldn't say "lost on purpose." I'd say he no longer has the strength to fight. Part of that isn't because of injury, but because he has no strength in his heart. He recognizes that he was wrong to change for Choji, and that's a weight on his heart.
