25 years back we listened to this album at our D&D sessions a lot. After that time I lost contact to Ulver and their music. 5 years ago I went on a trip to norway and luckily discovered a "hidden" artist area with a concert hall and there was a poster for an Ulver concert coming up. To bad I left Oslo a few days before that concert. But with that discovery I started looking for what Ulver had made in the last years and I was absolut flashed by their music. Now I'm sitting here with my new born son and we're enjoying this album a lot. Me still and my son for his first time. Thank you Ulver!

So here you are bragging about how you used to be a D&D nerd but now you have a newborn son, as if you're saying to all the other nerds out there, "Ha ha, I actually touched a woman and had a kid with her, but you nerds will never be able to do that!" You make me sick.

I had the opposite experience. I am really into gothy 80's synth, electronica etc. And I got into Ulver via Assassination of Julius Cæsar. I started to look into them after listening to that album and was surprised to see they had black metal roots.

For anyone not Norwegian who are wondering what they are singing: 1-East of the sun and west of the moon: [Wiki:East of the sun and west of the moon] "East of the sun and west of the moon, you will never reach. To the end of the world we are headed. 2-Word: "The one who has not seen the night should not promise to walk in darkness" Directly translated: Not should those promise to walk in darkness who has not seen the night. 9.Dressed in the colors of the night: "Do you know more than "Hallowed be thy name"? Do you cast no shadow? Then you have signed your soul away... and will for all time... have one with curled horns... who watches you from the shadow, (second voice)who sees you/looks uppon you." 11. Raid/A great travel in life [Usual once or twice in life for Odins followers in year 0-1000] Blindly i go Do not lead me home Let the night carry me Always forth 13. Ulvsblakk (means the color of a wolf(Dark grey/black)) Do you hallucinate(in the dark)? Can you see the sun vanishing? (quiet) And one saw... Unusually beautifull is the nightjar In colors of the wolf it streaks through the air in the night Do you hallucinate(in the dark)? Can you see the vindfall?[A tree ripped up with roots by a storm] (quiet) And one saw... Unusually beautifull is the spirit/wight Twilight it is, where in the colors of the wolf, it moves It is dark now Tora screams out loud. [Could also mean "thunder rolls loudly" as Tora is both a girls name and old norwegian for thunder. Though in the context, i would assume a girl screams as she is taken by the spirits] [Evil laughter changes the narrative to the underworld] Daylight we abhore/daylight we shy away from [Spirits whisper as they vanish] The colors of the wolf, are we...

This record brings back a lot of feelings. I used to listen to it in a time in which my health was at an all time low. And a serious relationship with someone I really loved was ending. It was a rough time. Now I am much better and I realize how much I have grown. It is beautiful how certain music can bring back feelings such as these ones and give peace and closure. Cheers everyone! Especially the ones that are on a bad path. Look up because things do get better.

Esse álbum é maravilhoso. O Ulver me faz gostar de músicas assim Dark Folk, Neo Folk.

MisterSquirtle It's not quite the same but Agalloch's "The white" EP is also very bautiful. (It's also not 100% acoustic)

Not to mention they were just kids when they wrote it and Garm is actually pretty humble when he refers to it as "pseudo neo classical" or something...However, he has proved time and time again he is a superlative creative force

This really is a wonderful album, even if the band considers it amateurish. I've heard rumors of them remaking this album, considering how amazing their remakes/remixes of nattleite have been, I'd love to hear it.
