For me, this is simply a track of pure beauty. In 1979 and after three Ultravox! albums John walked away and created "Metamatic". Billy Currie recruited Midge Ure and recorded 'Vienna". Two of the greatest albums ever produced, and for fans of electronic rock music I think that it was a win win. Thankyou for your review GP 🧡
Its so haunting. Love the banjo and the deep smoky tenor sax. They were never afraid to use different instruments if the song demanded it. Early Ultravox were in a league of their own. Thank you.
Beautiful track.
Remembering this is 77. It's a good two years before the synth new wave thing really started to hit. It just sounded so unique at the time.

Spot on Tommy. Well said buddy. Those who weren't there could never appreciate how utterly revolutionary this track was 👍
According to Discogs, the saxophone is played by ''c.c.'' (C.C. Smith), who played in a band called Gloria Mundi, described as a ''punk-goth band from the late 70's''. There is a renowned French ''New Wave'' film directed by Alain Resnais from 1959 called ''Hiroshima, Mon Amour''. John Foxx most definitely sang the vocals on this track.

Thank you, that clears up those Qs xx cool info
Love this track. I think it’s based on a French new wave film of the same name from 1957.
Yep, very futuristic sound for '77. One of my all time fave tracks ever.

Yup, same here Cires. Glorious song 🧡
Isn't very often you hear a saxophone in an Ultravox song... not bad at all for a first time hear! Do like alot of Ultravox songs... Good stuff gp! 👍😁🌺
Hi GP, great to see you listening to the band's back-catalogue. .This track exists in a number of different versions with my personal highlight the version that begins with Billy Currie's screeching violin. A band called 'The Church' also covered this. Take care.

Great comment Kevin. Any fan of John Foxx/Ultravox! always gets a 👍 from me.
Brilliant track, I have a 7inch ep of this track, amazing stuff, love Ultravox, both versions!
Great international sounds great live band
I'd say the most obvious influence on this is an album that came out at the beginning of 1977: David Bowie's Low, which created a template for so many electronic bands going forward, including of course saxophone. Great song anyway, so atmospheric.
Hi GP. I think you'd really like The Comsat Angels from Sheffield. Anything from their first three albums, Waiting For A Miracle - Sleep No More - Fiction. They took sparsity, ambience and atmosphere to a whole new level. You wont be disappointed.
John Foxx is great. Got the 3 into 1 compilation at Penny Lane Records 35 years ago. super.

Thank you x
The re release really annoyed the new Ultravox with Midge as they thought it was a cash in which took the attention away from the new line up. excellent song
Gp you now need to start reviewing Gary Numan who the original singer in ultravox John foxx says is a pioneer of electronica. Try are friends electric or down in the park for starters I think it would be much 🎉 on your channel. 😊
