@Colin Killian faith isn't inherent, science is here because people felt that we were not understanding the world well. Science doesn't come from faith, it come from emptiness, the one you feel when you don't understand something. That pressure and pleasure when you discover something and see how ridiculous our knowledge was before is what interests scientists. Giving an answers to that lack of knowledge, that emptiness is what they search, they want to prove that faith doesn't exist, everything is ruled by what science discover. Religion is more about not accepting that death is part of live, that every human beings will die whatever happens, humans can't live forever, because the human DNA is made like this. Religions Is a way to reassure people before they die, it also help them stopping their animals instincts by thinking someone is watching what they are doing. To me it's just having a weak mind (which isn't something bad, not everyone can be good or strong at everything).

To be fair, we did most of the things you listed, just not in cool Warhammer way. "Blind faith" (in atheist way, same as fascists/communists did)? Check. Superstition? Well, maybe a bit of it here and there, but it's mostly dogma instead. Technological regression? Yup, hundred percent. And I don't mean the new iphones aren't being made, I mean the railroads are fucked.

I can even imagine the scene: Chaos forces are invading a hive, and once inside, they see no one, no Guardsman, no civilians, nothing. Then, the choir begins... From out of nowhere, this choir begins to sing, while the Cultists and Chaos Space Marines look around search for targets, but they find nothing. Then the music begins... And all hells break loose, with the Ultramarines attacking from out of nowhere. And they continue to sing. To the Cultists, they see Angels of Death, who with holy voices praise the Emperor and sow Death. The Chaos Space Marines see the retribution that many feared for taking the wrong side. The Ultramarines continue to sing, killing left and right, their choir emboldening them and giving them the pride of their craft. The Heretics are in a complete disarray, so much so that they try to fall back, piling and stumbling over one another, making the rear forces incapable of supporting them. The Ultramarines go after them, mowing and reaping, destroying the Heretical force, the choir reaching the crescendo. At the high point of the choir, the Chaos Space Marine leader see the Ultramarines quickly coming for him. He think he should fall back, or maybe face the followers of the corpse God. But he does not see an Assault Marine falling upon him with a Thunderhammer. With this final strike, the choir ends, and the Ultramarines are victorious. What do you think?

I see them as the living embodiment of humanity's greatest strengths (courage, honor, fearlessness, loyalty) but at the same time they are humanity's greatest weaknesses made manifest, as is evident in the Traitor Astartes. A Space Marine can rise to levels no mortal could ever dream of reaching, and then go beyond even that, yet also fall to one so corrupt that even the most insane of individuals would shudder at the thought of the deeds committed to get there. I love Warhammer :D

This movie was one of the few good media portrayals of the Ultramarines, not too overpowered like the Matt Ward era. Truly courage and honor, the Imperial Fist also got the spotlight in this movie "burn heretics!"
