ULTRA REMOTE Fishing for Brown Trout

Фильм және анимация

Nearing the end of this South Island Diary series, I took advantage of a weather window and flew way into the wilderness to spend 4 days exploring a river system that I have wanted to fish for years.
Another challenging place to get around and fish and that's just the way we like it!

Another sick video man! The chopper ride in is so legit and the terrain is legendary. It mind boogles me the size of trout you catch on the daily out there. Especially the transplanted mcloud rainbows. I would be lucky to get one of those 5 to 6 pound bows in a season from there originated waters here in California. I need to make it out there some day and trip on some trout! Good luck on the next three days hope you get a giant!

The second brown was my favorite. The rivers I fish in Colorado hold lots of fish. One can catch multiple decent size fish out of a pool the size of a hot tub. But most of these are stocked fish and are very rarely the sizes I see in your videos. I can see walking long distances to hook into the kind of fish you're catching. Wonderful scenery on top of it. Nice fish, nice video. It's probably not that unusual though for another trout to move in like that. They are territorial aren't they? The dominant fish was in the best spot, and once he was displaced the next moved into his spot.

Maybe so but usually after a commotion like that, every fish nearby disappears pretty quick!!🤷‍♂️

Hi Alex, a four day reconnaissance is a good way to start. I hope that the helicopter was a drop-off not a delivery as that was a long walk to get to the fishing part of the river?! Any reason to the long stretches of troutless water? Is it to do with lack of fish food or floods, time of year or the dreaded e.t.c.? Nice camera work. Cheers mate. Harera

Im sure there were fish in those sections of river but they can't be out feeding all the time right..? And with some crappy light, you can easily miss fish that are there too. Just how it goes sometimes that's all

Hey Alex! do you ever over-/undersize your rod/lines (e.g 5wt line og 6wt rod)? As a lot of the SA lines are oversized, it would be interesting to know if you had tried. mostly a 5wt guy myself. Picked up a 6wt smooth infinity recently. going to use it as a streamer/heavy nymph rig paired with one of the new limited edition Loop Opti Rapid NASF reels and a Loop Opti K2 9,6` rod. can`t wait for the season to really kick of here in Norway. keep up with the great content! you keep me going through the winter months👍

Sometimes I will overload a really fast rod with a line weight heavier but don't see the point in underlining one. I would suggest just using a softer action rod and pair it with the appropriate line and you won't have to think about it.

Having spent several seasons fishing trout on the South Island in NZ, I’d recommend less of the photo shoot and get the fish back to the water. Once they are landed, pull the fly and let them go. As a fly fisherman, I’d rather learn about the fisheries, water conditions and tactics.
