I've been living the Hanta Virus nightmare. Travel trailer in the Mohave Desert. I'm moving into a nursing home because I'm coming down with all sorts of diseases and conditions at 69. I have recently acquired Lupus which can give one all sorts of issues and now I'm struggling with losing my ability to walk. Weak legs no fun. Asthma and suddenly I'm on oxygen. I think once I get out of this old falling apart trailer? I think my health can only improve. I hope so. I'm giving up my freedom way earlier than I thought I would in my life. But taking my guitar and a positive attitude. I used to cook in a couple nursing homes a few years back. They're not so bad. Send prayers!!😂❤I'm tired of being stranded with a broken down trailer and broken down car in a terrible economy. I couldn't see anywhere out but this. So I'll be travelling via utube from now on. Whew....how strange.😢

Sarah and any off grid junkie just a word of caution about changing flat tires - when getting new tires installed insist on hand tight with a lug wrench not a impact driver .out in the middle of no where even Sasquarch may not get the lug nuts loose. Also throw away the cheap lug wrench and get a 4 way lug wrench .

Impact wrench or Hand tightened is fine as long as the lugs are properly torqued afterwards. I nearly had a tire fall off in the middle of nowhere due to improperly torqued lugs. 4 of the six had completely fallen off and the other two were barely hanging on by a half inch. Luckily I was able to tighten the remaining two and get back to town. All of the bolts were bent and had to be pounded out and replaced. The wheel as well because of all the flopping around made the bolt holes egg shaped instead of round. Would have been a complete nightmare if that tire had fallen off completely where we were. Properly torqued lug nuts can be broken loose easy enough even for those of us without much arm strength. I just use what little body weight I have and jump on the wrench to break them loose 😅 Anyway, that’s my unsolicited 2 cents worth of opinion. Properly torque the lug nuts and possibly save yourself from a huge disaster.

I would say my parents went camping excessively sometimes 6 or 7 times in the summer and a few times in even in the snow. The 12-mile hike when I turned 14 was a fun one. My favorite thing was finding ghost towns also ancient Anasazi ruins. I learned how to use a manual film camera when I was 6 years old.

April of 1968... What was I doing? I turned 17 on April 3rd... And Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated the next day on April 4th. Then came the race riots in my hometown of Baltimore. Then two months later Robert F Kennedy Jr was assassinated in Los Angeles. '68 was a pretty bad year for everybody.

A CB would do her no good out in the middle of nowhere as their range is very limited. They're meant to be used on busier roads. No worries though. She always carries a satellite phone when she heads out into the middle of nowhere.

@@jazzcatt At least she should get a Spot messenger or similar. They work well in the desert with lots of open sky, and the annual fee is pretty cheap. I used it to message my wife when it was getting late, it showed a track of my route and where to locate my body.😊

@@jazzcatt Spot is a little orange battery operated satellite messenger, fits in your pocket. Mine has 3 buttons, "I'm OK" "Need help" and "911" which connects to search and rescue according to GPS location. Costs about $150, and you add service, mine was basic and was like $150 a year. Way cheaper than a sat phone but limited functions. You can buy from Spot or places like REI.

Sugar Daddy, Sugar Mama and Sugar Babies. And the Herald Examiner was based out of the San Fernando Valley, they had an office right down the street from where I grew up in Woodland Hills. Oh, and I have no less than 3 VW's sitting here at the moment :)

I hate to be that guy that points out other people’s inaccuracies in their comments but forgive me here I go, let me first congratulate you on your VW collection. I’ve had several over the years also and at least two were purchased in Van Nuys but I digress. The Herald Examiner was based in downtown Los Angeles in an iconic building commissioned by William Randolph Hearst who already owned the very successful San Francisco Examiner. I grew up near North Hollywood and delivered newspapers for The Citizen News which was based in the San Fernando Valley. Hope you don’t mind the clarification.

That "plumb bob" is actually a window sash counter-weight, very common in old fashioned windows. It's unlikely that primitive cabin had such a window installed, so they probably used it for something else. I used to have about 20 of tbose weights, left over from a house that burned down.

Got to air down! Those KO2s wear fast...rotate and then upgrade to the new KO3s. You should make your way to the old Barker Ranch...super cool outing, but takes a full day. ...and yes some of those cabins in "___x__x___x___y" are maintained and usable if need be...just not the ones that are all full of rat disease. But over the years - maintained. Thanks for sharing!

That weight looks like a 'window weight'. They were used inside window frames to counter the weight of the movable part of a window so they were easy to open, and didn't drop hard enough to shatter the glass when you closed it. One was each side, with rope and a pulley.
