Paul Cangialosi stopped by the shop to help me rebuild the T-5 for my Fairmont Project. Paul has been building these transmissions for more than 30 years. He also sells the rebuild kits for these builds on his website 5Speeds.com. Not to mention he literally wrote the book on rebuilding these transmissions. Definitely the right man for the job.
There's a ton of links I need to trow at you so I'm going to keep this part of the description short.

This guy is a transmission genius. I've been a mechanic for 21 years and in all that time I have never sat in awe of someone's skill until now. I'm not even going to pretend I would be able to strip this apart without breaking something let alone rebuild it! It's guys like u that give us mere mortals someone to look up to and respect. Great work

do you think there is a possibility to disallow the driver from changing gears ( locking the shiffter) because he has committed a mistake like he is accelerating?

Talk about professionalism, theory, practicality, and team work put all into one. Kudos to Eric and Paul.
It's incredible how much time and effort these guys go through to put out such detailed and useful information for everyone to have access to FOR FREE, just for some entitled ungrateful assholes to come and point out any negativity they can, if I was Eric and Paul I'd hate to come to the comment section after all that work just to be criticized over nothing. Not to mention the final edited video we see goes by a lot smoother than the work in real life. Great work guys awesome video, I learned a lot! Thanks!

Eric, you were like a child meeting his super hero. It was honestly great watching you take the back seat and learning (or learning more) about this transmission rebuild. This is why you're #1 in car repair videos. Thanks a lot for your videos.
Paul is a master at his craft. Very thorough and detailed.

You are never going to win an Oscar for camera work for KZread instructional videos , but this is worthy of nomination, great job to everyone - this is brilliant!
Having built a few automatics for my cars I had always figured that manuals were a pretty darn simple creature. Man was I wrong! Paul and Eric you guys did a great job showing not only the inner workings of the T5 manual transmission but also how to properly rebuild one. Im truly impressed by the level of skill that went into this video. Keep em coming.

Well you know alotta times, what alotta people wil do, is they won't watch the whole video, ya know, and so they think they should hit the dislike. But that's actually wrong; it's gonna put unnecessary pressure on the series and you'll end up damaging the part :)

I'm buying Paul's book - that's for sure! Thank you both for one of the best tech videos I've ever seen. Well done, gents!
This video, along with its first part, is probably one of the most amazing automotive videos I have ever seen. Hats off to all parties involved, awesome work.
Thanks to both Eric and especially Paul for the invaluable assistance. Great guy, very personable and sincere--can't say enough great things about his expertise and his ability to instill confidence in someone attempting such a project for the first time. I've had the great pleasure of actually speaking to him by phone a few years ago--I had questions regarding some of the inventory he offers on his site. Prior to that I had already purchased his book, which I still refer to (I'm currently rebuilding my 3rd T5OD)--I'm sure now that I've found these videos I'll be re-watching both parts of them many times.
He rebuilt it in under 3 hours while talking about it at each step. That's really incredible. I think he said he rebuilt 80-90k transmissions. Not sure if that was total or just T5 transmissions only. Either way that's amazing. He's a master mechanic. What a cool guy! I might buy his book even though I'll probably never rebuild one!
Gentlemen, thank you. Wonderful detail. I just had to pull the transmission from my 2006 Miata (6 speed) because something is frozen. I've spent the afternoon learning about synchronizers and then watched your complete video. I've pulled the top plate and the tailshaft. Couldn't figure out why it either locks completely when a synchronizer is locked to a gear or refuses to find neutral. Your video told me that I have to pull the mainshaft and countershaft since I think its the 3/4 synchro that won't unlock. I've taken apart and rebuilt almost everything on a car but a transmission. Your video gave me the knowledge and definitely the courage to give it a shot. It's already broken so I can't do any more harm. Ignore the trolls. You're fantastic to do this for free. Thank you!
This is one of the best how-to videos I've ever seen, great camera work too!
Just want to thank you for all of the excellent help I’ve gotten from your videos. I can now do successful rebuilds of my t5 and 8.8 thanks to you. Your videos are easy to understand and nicely detailed. Again, thanks so much for such great videos.
It's rare when you come across a wellspring of info on youtube, and now another one with Paul's videos. Thank you guys.
Paul you are The Man for transmissions! I am still impressed on how you know all the measures, tricks, materials, steps and tricks to assemble that thing! Thank you both for putting this video together and show the world that at least some things can be repaired nowadays instead of thrown away

GearBoxVideo I'm amazed this fairly stock T5 will hold up to the 600 BHP turbo 5.0 in the Fairmont. I had a few "gone through" T5 transmissions and they blew up in a 350 bhp '90 5.0 even under break in driving. I truly think two things, shitty assembly and I had a really good clutch. Must respect for your work and knowledge. I think you said you are in Florida. I'm in St. Augustine. I'll gladly be a client for life if I can buy you a beer something.

Hey Paul, sorry to hijack your reply but I was wondering if, instead of pressing or tapping bearings and spacers in you could heat them up on a bearing heater and just slide them on? I know this is commonly done and as long as the bearing is heated evenly (a torch would be a big NO), they fall into place and are firmly attached once they cool. At any rate, thanks for these vids and also all of the great info over at the GearBoxVideo Channel. I've watched all of them at least twice!
Eric: Thank you so much for what you do. This is an amazing set of videos. Paul is THE MAN, BUT YOU are too. I have learned so much from you. Thank You.
This video really helped me out when disassembling and reassembling a transmission in class. I feel more confident taking apart manual transmissions. Thank you Eric and Paul!
Yo Car Guy, I've watched this series twice now and have learned something new both times. You and Paul are freaking awesome.
Great video guys! Manual transmissions have been black magic to me for a while and seeing someone like Paul and Eric tear one down has actually taught me a lot about them.
Invaluable information, used your kit with the upgraded counter gear plate, very nice. The little tricks saved much frustration ie. strut keys, bearing shims. Thanks for all that info.
I'll never have to rebuild a T-5 but it was still fun to watch.
Thanks Eric. Awesome that you linked up with Paul. You guys rock!
I will never rebuild a tranny but loved watching Expert Craftsmanship in progress. This nearly 90 minute video just flew by. Thanks Paul, Eric, & Brian. Think I'll make some popcorn & watch parts 1&2 again.
Thank You Paul for bringing your Knowledge of the T-5 in a Great video from Eric The Car Guy..
Paul Cangialosi is a bad ass! I never get tired of watching this video. Thanks again Eric for all the useful information.
purchased some T5 parts from Paul. Looking forward to doing some more in-depth rebuilds on my t5's. I have 4 mustangs, 2 of which are t5 (plus a couple extra t5's for back-up). Spoke to Paul on the phone and got everything I needed. Super nice guy. Really digging the Fairmont project! Thanks for the videos!
Very informative. Thanks to both hosts for always valuable videos.
Great video, this guy is like a walking encyclopedia for transmissions, a real pro, subbed to his channel
Great video ! I'm not anyway mechanically inclined but I'm now left with a much greater appreciation of the skill it takes to design, build and repair car transmissions. If I had seen this video when I was younger I suspect I would of not played with my computer so much and got dirty !! Thank-you Paul
10:03 "I am good at polishing shafts" had me dying LMAO
Man I wish there was something more than a like button. Such a phenomenal video. I've watched alot of Paul's videos, but I always come back to this one for reference
I think this was a really good collaboration. People like Paul have some serious skills when it comes to just fetching a machine like that to bits, dumping it on the bench and then just getting it to go all back together. I think even with diagrams, laying everything out on said diagrams I'd give myself 1 chance in 5 of getting it back together. Eric was able to keep things more grounded for the laymen watching the video and add some comic relief.
I love nerdy videos like this! Paul is nothing short of absolutely awesome. I'm probably gonna buy that book to prepare myself for a rebuild on the transmission on my 944S2.
I have no idea what's going on in these 2 videos, but I really enjoyed watching it. Very informative. Thank you both!
This has got to be one of the best how to videos I have seen, so detailed and Paul is so eager to share certain tips and tricks that certainly help out in rebuilds. Thanks Paul, and Eric. Good job in sharing your talents.

I did some more T5 stuff on my channel
This series was very cool; Eric and Viewers were treated to the expertise of a Master Technician, and Eric was able to utilize a few tools the Tech hadn't used or heard of before (Trans Gel, high performance snap-ring pliers, etc.) that made the job go smoothly- they used the new vise, and gave the Press something to do, too. When installing the new parts at a later date (2nd gear & fork) Eric mentions that "He can just watch the video again"- so please *praise* Brian for his' *excellent* camera work and attention to detail through this; without _his_ skills- who knows if you'd miss something critical. Thank you so much, all 3 Gentlemen.

+HUBBABUBBA DOOPYDOOP I actually use Dynatex Assembly Lube. Same stuff. I also have my own pliers I prefer to use. I commented on the snap ring pliers Eric had because they bit into the snap rings really good, almost to a point where you couldn't get them off easy.
Been looking forward to this all week, thanks Eric and Paul!
These two videos have been a great watch with tons of useful info, and I've just gone over and subscribed to Paul. Thanks!
Hi Eric, Paul is the king! It was fantastic to watch a MASTER at work. He knows everything about that box and his attention to detail is very enlightening. You did a fantastic thing getting him on ur channel - wonderful to watch him do his thing. Thanks.

+Murray Ball Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching.
Really enjoyed this video. I didn't think I would. Can't drive a stick, I am not a gearhead, and had never heard of a T5 tranny before, but this was fun to watch. I like watching people work who know what they are doing. Thank you Eric and Paul for taking the time.
Man, this guy knows transmissions. This is my first trans. rebuild of a T5 on a 1985 Mustang GT. I'd be lost if I hadn't found this video and disassembly.
Video image clarity was AWESOME! Really helps with such a technical topic!
I’ve watched these t5 rebuild videos 3=times now, mesmerising and very satisfying 👍
Thanks, you two, for these two videos, one of the best automotive instructionals on youtube.
Awesome video , your experience and knowledge is second to none !!!! The details in this video and explanations is what makes it great !!!
I LOVE transmission videos thanks Eric and Paul!!!!
I love KZread and your channel Eric. Thank you for posting this. Prior to this all I have ever done was a removal and an install. Nice to see all the transmission guts.
Great video! Always nice to watch guys who know their stuff! Hat is off to both of you!
Great set of videos Eric. Thank you for presenting this info. I always enjoy watching a master performing his trade.
this guy is like a transmission doctor ...you guys should do a automatic rebuild video. no wonder why rebuilds are expensive..look at the skill level of guys like this. keep up the good work.
Great pair of videos you two (three) . Jam-packed with useful info and tips and the best part to me was watching two craftsman teach each other something new. I shared Paul's reactions to that damned plastic gasket scrubber thingy. GOT to get me one of those. Like him, I've been screwing with gasket scrapers, razor blades and metal-bristle toothrushes all my life. F THAT. Eric I only recently stumbled across your vids while looking for info on a motor issue on my '02 K1500 Suburban, I watched several of your vids in that cramped crappy little shop you had back then. It's nice to see you in better digs and seeming to have a much better time of it. Congrats all around.
That was really cool Paul! Thanks to Eric for possibility to look that magic.
These two part are really awesome and highly educational. Keep up the good work.
This was pretty awesome to watch. Paul is amazing with this stuff. I have to rebuild a Toyota E153 5 speed, so every little bit helps before I start the project.
Eric these shows are really great. I like the way you try new stuff all the time!
Great video, gentleman. Finished watching this after having a not-so-good night driving. It was really informative.
I just needed to replace the 5th gear synchro so this video and Part 1 were perfect. I accidentally let the 5th/Reverse rod that runs the 5th gear shift fork rotate 180. Be careful. Spin your tranny in all 6 gears before you install it. Thankfully I new to bench test it, then I used this video to prove my hunch. Thank you Eric & Paul!
Paul, fantastic to see a master tradesman at work. Eric - hope it works out great and we see the finished box in place before the summer.
Kinda makes me wish I had a T5 trans to rebuild. Well done. Thanks for the time and effort that went into making this video.
Wow Paulie C is a master of his craft! Eric too and I wouldn't be half of the mechanic i am without @EricTheCarGuy , however getting Schooled as Paul has here is priceless!!!!
Eric the car guy. thank you for the video and thank you for inviting Paul to help in the rebuild of the T-5 manual transmission. it's a wonderful thing to see on video . you guys are awesome .
He makes it look so easy. Then you try to follow along and it's all swearing. Really informative and enjoyable video.
Very informative Eric and Paul! Awesome video! Also, Cameraman Brian did an awesome job too! sometimes Paul was a little too quick, but Brian fought hard :D Been on the channel since the early days and still loving it. Today I´m more confident then ever in doing work on my own cars!
Great video! I remember having to tear down one of those T-5s. To rebuild it with new parts. Omg very intensive. Great job on video. Give Brian the camera guy a beer for me!
Paul is what you might call a guru, as far as these transmissions are concerned he really seems to know them inside out.
One word to say is nice and thank you so much guys.
Eric, Paul this set of videos were amazing, congrats! Makes me feel I need to buy one of those T5 and rebuild it :) thanks for that! G
Excellent Video. Thanks for all you guys do
That. Was. IMPRESSIVE!!! I've built my share of T-5's in my day... But I really learned something here! The previous episode when you introduced the "Man who WROTE the Book" as who would be rebuilding the Trans.... Mind Blown! 😲👍👍

OMG, this guy is incredible. Now I understand he probably went through hundreds of these rebuilds, but, oh, man, I wish I was that skilled.
awesome video! the amount of knowledge is unbelievable!
I may be crazy, but I love fresh clean parts. You fellas did a hell of a job!
I'm inspecting and rebuilding one now. Paul is the Guru of transmissions hands down. His videos on 5speed.com are great to learn from. He is also very meticulous on his builds and I like that.

Excellent job Paul! My Mobil 1 hat is off to you sir. I learned much on these 2 video's.
Paul & Eric my hat is off to ya, my self I don't dig into transmissions but yes I can spell transmissions I just might take a leap as I have enough of them around that I just might take the leap as there looks not to be but a few more tools than what I have but nothing like getting new toys right to play with ..... Thank you again for the in depth video so stay safe and keep dirty ...
awesome video, Thank you for taking the time to make it.. it saved the day !!
Man think God I seen this video I'm going to order the rebuild kit through his site but he's away and out of stock there's alot to learn about the t5 and doing it the write way is critical he's a master and thanks for showing your tricks 👍
You know something Eric, you seem like a nice guy and I have watched a lot of your videos, but I can't help feeling that you're being a bit of a tease with this Fairmont project, and I'm not gonna forget the way you toyed with my emotions anytime soon.

Eric the wash guy, amazing video. As usual.
Great video! So much good information! Thanks guys. Gonna go finish the pig I was working on now!
Paul you are awsome Man. Loved the build.
Paul's point about the case being scratched by the Bristle disc is well taken. I noticed that Eric is using the 50 grit Green disc. There is also a Yellow 80 Grit and a White 120 grit disc available. I'll bet carefully using the White disc will clean the machined aluminum surfaces without leaving deep scratches that affect sealing.
Great video. Enjoyed watching a skilled technician. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Nice work Paul.. and Eric lol video was somehow very entertaining for me, took apart and rebuilt an 89' RM 250 dirt bike motor and transmission so I could understand pretty much everything that was done and why, again killer video
Wow! What a great video, Thank You!
LMAO Eric. When you got excited about the freshly built and spinning shaft after the first press, I totally get that. You're not alone in that feeling!
Great work guys. Lots of useful stuff. Thanks!
Masters at work.
This video needs more like buttons so I can like my like. Eric, you need to spread the word of T5 trans rebuilds among the masses. Go forth my son.
I watched this video and learned a lot, because i'm one of those guys that took out the wrong bolt, and to cheap to go to the trany shop ,thanks for making the video,my wallet and 84 mustang svo thank you
