I recently bought the 2006 saga collection r2 for my birthday a week ago. Alongside potf2 gammorian guard and loose skiff guard klaatu. And retro collection 2020 bespin Luke and Boba fett from the 40th anniversary of empire. The saga collection r2 has a sensorscope when you turn the dome, it's like the exclusive three pack vintage collection droids pack from target many yrs ago the r5d4 toy in the pack with the clicking pop up bad motorvator. I love both of them together they match. I also have the potf2 r2 d2, episode 1 r2, and the single carded forcelink r2s from the last jedi. I mainly have the vac metal dome ones out because of how rare they are to find. Same with the potf2 removable limbs 3po. I have two 3pos but one is from the last jedi and the other is potf2. When hasbro made the Droid for the rebels, vintage collection and force awakens and last jedi lines; r2 and 3po are too small to accompany the tall but scale of size figures for the main heroes. The older ones are much better. Perfect size, perfect scale. Perfect rarity. I love them. And one of these days I plan to get ahold of the retro collection ones they included in wave 2 of the first 12. I'm getting interested in the kenner stuff than the modern stuff but I equally embalance both of the two. Vintage collection, retro. Characters I don't have yet like landos guards, or Jabba and the rest of his denizens. Mara jade (that ones a golden grail I have my eyes on) I try to not get doubles of everything I have, mainly too many Luke's, Hans or leiaz or landos. I like the imperial building and rebel building. There's one rule that I stick, "get the characters you need, leave the ones you already have for someone else" thats my motto.

Being an R2-D2 fanatic, I LOVE this video!!! You actually have more R2’s than I have! But there is one R2 3.75” scale I see is missing, and is a unique sculpt that thus far has not be re-used in any other release, and I finally was able to find him on eBay! He came in a 2 pack with C-3PO and was an Attack of the Clones Arena set (I think). He has the light pipe feature but oddly his eye is clear instead of blue like most light pipe R2’s or black as the accurate ones. He has the opening door panel similar to the VOTC version but it’s actually not just a re-use of this; it has a different arm that swings up and out of the compartment, the middle leg pops off instead of retracting into the body (which I think all should do retract, I personally wish most features were integrated and slide in/out instead of pop off and on as they are too easy to lose and it’s just more authentic to have them part of the figure like the “real” R2! ;-) Oh and he has a back opening panel also with a string with a clip on the end that can also wind back into the body by turning his head. It’s one if the best looking/most accurate looking R2 figures IMO and a shame it hasn’t been re-released. It’s far better than the over-used and simplistic Build A Droid figure that has made up 99% of the 3.75” R2’s the last few years ( the other being the most recent “BaR-2 D2” figure, which I think is a poor effort with the hideous Sensorscope design, the flimsy and inaccurate chest panel/arm, and the newrlynuse;ess middle leg (tho it does retract into the body, albeit to pop up the fully inserted yet not integrated Sensorscope…how sad that the original Sensorscope is still the best design in terms of functionality, simplicity and being an integral part of the figure…come on Hasbro, get it right like Kenner did 40 years ago! :-) I won’t even start on my criticism of the Black Series R2, to the 3.75” BS which I missed and am now going to find after seeing it here in your video! But rather the 6” scale or more accurately for this figure, the 5” scale as he is entirely too small, his dome shape is off, the “features” are either pop on (no integrated Sensor or Periscope despite the larger scale, why not Hasbro???) the annoying twist dome to lower/raise the middle leg is annoying and tedious, and his parts are the wrong proportions relative to each other (his legs, for example, are almost the same width as the 3.75”, his body cylinder is too short, and again, the dome is just warped and wrong! Supposedly Hasbro is releasing an all new sculpt to correct the issues that I and many others have been complaining about over the years, here’s hoping they get it right as they are capable of amazing work when they try! Until then, Figuarts makes the best darn 6” scale R2-D2 and I’m sure you’re familiar with it, if not check him out as you’ll love him. The only thing missing is an integrated Periscope the. He’d be truly perfect but is pretty close already! His coolest feature is the ability to change his indicator dome “lights” colors by pressing 2 concealed buttons and cycling thru 3 options, it’s like magic! The middle leg is spring loaded, he has openiing compartments (one more middle body and a retraining bolt option with a spring loaded retracting Periscope would have made him perfect IMO…but there’s hope they’ll add these for the Empire Strikes Back version as the one thus far released is labeled “A New Hope”. Mafex has a close runner up that includes a holographic Leia accessory and the bartender add ons and spring loaded middle leg (actually better than Figuarts mechanism) but no opening compartments. Mafex’ s comes in a 2 pack with the only 6” scale vac metallized C-3PO but the figure falls apart due to the vac metalizatiom keeping him from being assembled like a normal figure and as good as R2 is, 3PO seems like he is supposed to be the Cloud City blown apart version. Permanently. Then of course there’s the excellent 12” scale Sideshow and HotToys versions, with my initial SideShow favorite being eventually well outdone by Hot Toys with an Artoo that absolutely steals the show of any R2 figure ever with every accessory you could ask for! If only the companies could replicate this for the 6” scale…heck, and 3.75” (why not!) then’ d I’d be a happy Astromech fan. Well, assuming they also do an R5 for his upcoming appearances on The Mandalorian S3, after R2 appeared in S2’s finale and in The Book of Boba Fett (R5 also appaearing but not with R2). And one final thought, as I too was bewildered why my beloved Kenner R2 - the first 2 figures I ever had were R2 and 3PO as the droids have always been my favorites - had a sticker for a body and dome details that weren’t quite accurate…I now know Kenner’s sculptors used an early reference photo (which I finally managed to find!) of George Lucas with a very early R2 that had a single circular eye and was all silver, no body detail at that time! But also because they kept the dome and body barrel one piece, avoiding the ugly seam that split the dome that later R2 figures - tho more accurate overall - would suffer from. And thus it’s striking that with all your R2’s lined up how good the original Kenner figure looks, his one piece dome absolutely shining and putting the other R2’s to shame! So yes, I’d LOVE a 6’’ scale classic Kenner R2-D2 figure, single circular ocular eye on a shiny vac-metal chromed one piece dome and even a (vinyl) body sticker with printed details! Of course I want the Sensorscope version as that was my favorite (and should have been the version The Droids series used as their R2 figure, the lightsaber pop up made zero sense!). So someone do this please!!! Hasbro has released some of their black series figures in paint jobs and vinyl capes matching their Kenner looks, so a specially made R2 is required sooner rather than later! Great video review of great (and terrible!) action figures of the greatest little Astromech to have ever saved the Galaxy…many, multiple times! ;-)

I was thinking the R2 (3.75 scale) figure you were talking about was the clone wars one with the back panel. Then I did a search and you are 100% correct! I was not even aware of the features on this figure. I remember finding it here in Canada at Zellers and as I was looking at this set I decided to pass on it thinking the R2 Was the same and 3PO would get re released. Boy was I wrong, Not only is that the most accurate EP2 3P0 to date, that is now an R2 Unit that I really want!! Thank you for making me aware of it. I will also have to take your advice on the larger sale R2's and R5's. Thank you for the comments. This is what I was hoping the channel would be about. Cheers!

Can I ask a Q for clarication. The 2 Dagobah R2D2's you show appear to be without the third leg. The Battlepack Dagobah set features an R2D2 with 3 legs. Am I right in thinking this wasn't covered in your fab review?

You are partially correct! The paint job on that one is all new(and looks great), The Figure is the Saga Jabba's Sail Barge R2. Thanks for the comment. I feel the need to track him down now!
