Ultimate Player's Guide to Aquatic Seafaring Campaigns in Dungeon and Dragons 5e!

Aquatic Seafaring Campaigns: www.skullsplitterdice.com/blo...
With the newly printed “Ghosts of Saltmarsh” there’s a lot of aquatic adventures on the horizon for a lot of players. Aquatic campaigns can get a bad rap though, from the difficulty and danger of fighting underwater to poorly run campaigns where players end up as little more than parts of boats (IS IT FLOTSAM OR IS IT JETSAM???). The sea is calling, and by following just a couple tips you can break waves rather than just treading water...

The volume was pretty low. When the ads started they were really loud by comparison. There were some pretty good ideas here.

My campaign world is a giant ocean with islands but no continents. I tell my players to have a plan for what to do if they fall into the water, even if that plan is drown and roll up a new character.

As a GM I love ships for keeping the party together, but I still encourage the players to make characters that would be in the landing party, not characters who shouldn't leave the ship.

I'm a Divemaster and gave my DM so trove to stuff in the "Underwater Realm". Since we're battling/hunting a Dragon Turtle. There's tons of real world stuff that's as crazy as anything in D&D. I made a Triton for this and noticed some crazy hacks that D&D might not realize.

Yea, Tritons have some interesting things once you're in a sea faring scenario!

Gust of Wind + Underwater = God Tier Attack. If you look up the Mantis Shrimp this is what it does....and on a Human scale is Insanely powerful. Also D&D messes up with Depths. "Deep" water is more like 120ft (40m) or deeper. Any lower and a ton of stuff changes (body effects wise) Im writing a Subclass to really harness the Waters Power through Tritons :) (Also a IRL Trident is most used im a way called a "Paralyzer" tip)

Every Dungeon is only as the Orc complaining about the lack of things to do... I could see this bring great for my isle/country - using waterways to circumvent terrain and monsters.

@@SkullSplitter The Seas of Guile is the name of the world itself. The actual planet does not have a name, just a bunch of islands with different names and cultures that vary in size.

Nice! And with a ship it's a great way to be able to expose the part to different islands. Happy Adventuring!

Raw-fully submerged objects have resistance to fire damage, so fireball goes off and does half of normal capacity

In my opinion, it's fire of a magical nature not from a combustible material. That is why a fully submerged creature gains resistance to fire not immunity to fire. Fireball goes off and impacts but only deals half damage.

Just a tip: your volume is WAY too low. I have you on full volume (all the way up), and can barely hear you over the box fan in my room. That said, just noticed this is rather old video, so hopefully you've caught this problem by now and adjusted with future videos (if not, hope this helps). Best of luck!

A DM can do so much more for downtime at sea. Moby Dick and whaling for example. Exploring the sea with underwater dives, looking for treasures. Stuff like that. Add a treasure map to the story. Say it was found onboard and follow that trail to the treasure. Sea adventures can be so much more fun. It isn't like being in the water realm. There is a surface. If you need to talk go to the surface. There are gigantic turtles that are the size of Islands man. lol. Live it up.

What I’ve been wondering about is if you have naturally swimming speed because your a triton. Are you allowed to swim with heavy armour or will you drown

Please do something about your audio quality. In all of your videos the audio is far too low. I'm not sure if it is a microphone sensitivity issue or a audio editing issue in post but it makes the content almost unwatchable except in specific circumstances and if I forget to undo the settings changes before watching another creators content I run the risk of damaging my ears and my sound system. Thank you.
