Ultimate Overland Bed Setup - Diamondback + Front Runner Tacoma Bed Cover Rack System

Front Runner Diamondback rack kit is now available in the 'Accessories' section from Diamondback here - bit.ly/2IrQUHA or from Front Runner here - bit.ly/3d6ZPgy (they are the same kit, sold at both websites).

The Diamondback Truck Cover was the first 'mod' that I really put on my Tacoma, and one that to this day, I think is the best thing I've put on it. It's evolved through the years, and for the last year I've been running it with a modified Front Runner Rack System. Since installing the Front Runner on the Diamondback, there have been hundreds of people that wanted a similar setup - but it was a little tricky to procure and install. Front Runner finally decided to produce a 'kit' that has all the components you need, ready to install, with installation instructions and everything you need. This video covers that general setup.

Awesome job. Love your content and approach. Front runner is awesome. Had on my LR4 before it passed away. Front runner gear is great. Infinitely customizable. Just get a bunch of eye bolts. You can place them on either side of the rails, at any location. A great application here would be to have clean flat rails on top with eyes under. You could then place full sheets, and many of them on top, then run your ratchet straps easily and quickly to secure. This is a great system for custom. Diamond back and frontrunner, a match made in heaven. Hats off if you were a catalyst in that. Cheers from Newfoundland

I just ordered my decked system. I will be ordering the diamond back in the next week or two. I plan on ordering the front runner racks and using a similar setup. I'm gonna have to hit up diamond back and see if their atv rails are compatible with the front runner. I'd like to have em both on there and pull the roof top tent when I wanna take the ATVs out. Thanks for the detailed video. You made my life so easy, not much research left to do. First time truck owner here and I can't wait to get her all tricked out.

Couldn't have asked for a better product right before looking into buying a Tacoma. I'm in the market in the next 6 months ish as I'll be moving from Hawaii to Colorado for work and I'll have to leave my beloved Montero behind. I've never been much of a truck guy but I'm leaning towards that Tacoma for the size, bed utility, and ability to run something like this for the RTT and camping gear in the bed rather than the back seats or truck of SUV.

I just got the Front Runner DB system for my truck recently and it's great. I did find out that the DB/FR Universal Track is slightly different than the one sold directly by FR. It seems the DB tracks come with standard bolts and track holes and not flush mounted bolts with recessed track holes like the ones straight from FR. This causes problems when you try to mount other FR accessories to the tracks.

Have the smooth Diamondback HD cover with the Frontrunner load bars. I was gonna mount an IKamper mini and travel but the pandemic sort of changed my travel plans. My cover has the cleats and I enjoy having them. It allows me secure things between load bars that might get loose otherwise. I tried using ratcheting straps but didn't like using them. Too much trouble. So have some pieces of rope that are easy on and easy off. Throw the rope behind the seat when not in use.

Nice!!! I like that Self Capability with the setup.. I wonder how you would secure the items below the tent.

I’ve tightened up my diamond back to sit very tight to seal any water to going in. When I open and close the tailgate the water rubber seal and the top of the tail gate rub and pull. Do you think it would ruin and seal after a while?

A little late to the party but I'm curious about access when you can't flip the tops up on the diamondback. For some trips the bed might not be packed with stuff but I'm sure there are times when there's more than you can reach from the tailgate. Is it a major pain when you're camping and can't get to all your gear easily? If you were going to use a taller bed rack would it still be front runner? I want cab height so I can carry kayaks without a crazy overhang in the back but undecided on the brand, cover isn't here yet so I've been taking my time deciding.

The only thing I'd do differently is to find a place and way to store the Max Tracks inside the bed instead of out, still for quick access, but so that I can still open the cover from the top when I don't have something else on the rack, just the rack up there, or maybe bikes or ski's on the rack that I can take off quickly and easily to use. Putting them where you do here is fine when there is something big up top like a pop up tent that will just stay up there, but otherwise, I'll want them in the bed somewhere.
