brooo I f LOVE the comparison you do without telling us until the end which is which, that really makes us have an objective opinion. this dynamic is DOPE, please never stop doing it, you'll get big fr.

It can be helpful to boost the low output SM7B's signal with something like a Cloudlifter before it hits the preamp if you're recording anything quieter than a drum kit or guitar amp. The highs on the NT1-A condenser will be more extended, but on the SM7B dynamic the highs will be smoother. You can't really hear what each mic can do if you just set everything the same except the gain. You have to use different approaches to get the best out of each mic.

Interesting that flat response with the Shure, definitely a pleasant listen. The lack of low end on the Rode is more apparant on this comparison than on the Neuman comparison.

I usually use the rode nt1 for vocals. if the room isn't sound controlled, then I use the sm7b. Recording instruments it can be either or a different mic.

Interesting, I barely noticed a difference between original and mixed, and between the mics from original to mixed. I listened on Philips Fidelio X2HR without any equalising, connected to pc's front panel. Maybe I have to listen to it some more.

I knew right away. Mike A was a rode because there was a higher pitch to your voice in the SM7B. so overall it just really depends. I think I'm going to get the NT2A just because it's not as high pitch as the NG1A and it's got more filter options

The main reasons people get a SM7B is because they live in a place where it's noisy and the mic is designed to reject background noise and it sounds good.

Mic placement on an acoustic guitar will make the world of difference. The rode is higher and looks closer to the neck. The closer you get to the body, will make sound boomier (if that's a word?!)

  • @deepstonecrypt

No you dont need a cloudlifter... a cloudlifter just replaces a preamp which is commonly in audio interfaces. If you have a good audio interface that can boost the low level of the sm7b than you will be perfectly fine without a fethead or "cloudlifter". So eather get a good audio interface with low self noise preamps or get a fethead ;D Greetings!

There’s a point behind doing this. It allows you to just use your ears….use your ears to determine the one you like the most. Sometimes I’ll do this with $4000 mics vs $300 mics & people pick the cheap ones thinking it’s the expensive one or vice versa. The answers are at the end of the test.
