    I loved my Delica. Mine was 4x4 and diesel, with a 4" lift, 32" BF A/Ts, a roof rack and a Snorkel. Way more fun than most of the JDM sportscars I've driven/owned.

    Ah yes... im from Malaysia and back in the day, this specific van with its rumbling engine, windows opened, no A/C in 38c humid weather, cushions more damaged than my soul and packed with more than 8 kids but still able to send all us to the tuition centre.. That door slide itself is a memory flashback itself

    @@collateral__damage Those Delica vans were terrible, they were a common sight on the roads in New Zealand back in the day, they were a common sight in our workshop too. Other brands like the obvious Toyota, had similar style Vans like the town-ace and Hi-ace which were very reliable with 4WD and had coach interiors much the same. The Delica was probably the best looking though.

    Our neighbors had one - the tranny blew up the first time it went into the Rocky Mountains. Plus, the turbo diesel could barely keep up with 100 km/h traffic on the highway. But it was great crawling off road in the back woods.

    In the Philippines these Vans are often used for Transport but often also illegal because they they are operating without a Franchise but this Vans are damn famous in the Philippines

    Fun fact my grandfather bought a misubishi delica 1988 version back in 1990, 34 years later and it is still running to this day maintaining 90% of its original parts, proving that a good car with a good owner can make a car last a lifetime.

    We used to own one of those, so convenient, cheap to run, can carry a few passengers, plus my parents turned it into a bed so when we were travelling we can have a rest. Awesome memories

    my grandad in trinidad drives one of these for a living as like a taxi service, it's his personally owned minivan so we do go on trips in it whenever we visit. pretty much most of what I remember is sitting in the front passenger seat

    We have a lot of these imported in the Philippines. They convert these from RHD to LHD to fit our roads. We also have the Delica Space Gear version here.

    I had one of these. Mitsubishi was pretty reliable. It was pretty rusty.

    Moon patrol vehicle. My mechanic said these paid off his mortgage in the 80s. The Delica didn't get any better because a debt ruddle Mitsubishi couldn't afford to engineer solutions. They do have problems, but if you love them, you'll look past them.

    The old L300's were notorious for catching on fire in the battery box- probably from people not clamping the battery down. Saw 3 different ones on fire over the years.

    I traveled throughout New Zealand for a month in one of these things with 2 people. Brakes half went out going down mountains. Otherwise absolutely spectacular great adventure machine.

    My 94 previa does all this!! i love it, took it wisconsin to california twice and wi to FL 4 times, working AC too! 350k miles on it, still runs like new.

    My 87 delica had 2nd row captains chairs that rotated 180* and laid flat to meet the rear bench seat. Mine was 2wd lowered on Conquest mags.

    I grew up in Europe and Japan and loved Mitsubishi and Toyota vans... Especially the Toyota Hiace were their back row seats lay flat making a large bed. In the 1980s, my family would travel all of Europe every summer living like gypsies out of the van. Too bad Toyota won't sell the Hiace model in America.

    Mitsubishi L300 station wagon also my favourite car. Its mostly childhood memory, my grandma had one, our family usually borrowed it to go family trip visiting my sister in college located in the region west of our home around 3 hour drive. Back then Im the one sit way in the back cabin, lay down and sleeping, usually I woke up when raining starts pouring down during our journey entering mountain road separate the region, then I closed the window (its non AC btw) and heard the melody when the rain hits the window... Its such a breeze childhood memoris

    That with a decent little offraod suspension set up and some decent tires would be an awesome place to live on the road. Just gotta make sure it can handle some dirt paths from time to time.

    These and the Toyota TownAce and HiAce versions were very popular in Australia years ago. Swivel seats, electric curtains, dual sunroofs etc. made them popular with backpackers. We did about 150,000km in ours, but it was gutless.

    I used to work with a bloke who had a Mitsubishi L300 4x4, commonly called a "Slug" in 4x4 circles, but is essentially the same as this. He had it for years, and when they retired it, he told both of his kids (late teens, same birthday date, 2 years apart) that they had both been conceived in that van. The kids did the maths, and worked out that they'd both been conceived at a very large, annual, hippie music festival here in Australia. Suffice to say both kids were disgusted.

    Now that is the way to travel, as a passenger that is, relaxing in the back with your feet up or even napping. The van has huge potential as a camper too, with its surprising volume you could turn it into all sorts of very comfortable living spaces or a rather spartan but spacious camper. All that and it is very reliable and economical, I would be very pleased to have one myself.
