Amy thanks for your great interesting and helpful reviews. I do have the Cuisinart mixer and I love it. I had bought a different brand mixer, which was a very good mixer, except it didn't seem to have a low speed. Even on the lowest setting, it seemed to be racing away from me. I gave it to my granddaughter, who loves it. Then I bought the Cuisinart. I agree it's a little heavy, but I've had no problems with it, and it's great for my purposes. As to the splattering-- I have a collection of stainless steel bowls saved from a couple of retired stand mixers, and these bowls are deep and have straight sides. These are the only bowls I use with my hand mixer, and nothing flies out.

These are excellent reviews, Amy, thank you. And the fatigue you experienced, etc. is why I make cookies with the stand mixer. I like the bigger, deeper bowl, more power, plus I don't have to hold the mixer. I love the Viking and you were lucky to get it.

Great video as usual Amy and Eric. I have a Kitchen Aid but it the 5 speed Ultra Power. It works fine for me I use it for some cake batters and cookie doughs. I do wish it came with the whisk attachment but I can always buy onr. It's almost 20 years old. Most of the time I use my KA Ultra Power Stand mixer.

Amy, love your hand mixer reviews, on the subject of the Cuisanart mixer w/ storage case, the cord is to be stored in the storage case with the attachments. Now, I have an older 6 speed Hamilton Beach mixer with a storage case, same issue the cord stores away in the case as well. I also own a 3 speed Kitchen Aid basic power hand mixer from the late 90's, it was included free as a bonus gift when i bought my Kitchen Aid stand mixer in 1998 from a Department Store. That 3 speed mixer is perfect for light jobs, a few years ago i ordered the wire whisk attachment from Kitchen Aid for the hand mixer, it still performs well overall, the 3 speed is Kitchen Aid's basic power mixer. In addition i also have a 200 watt, 6 speed Hamilton Beach mixer that i bought cheap at Walmart back in 2003, it does not have the wire beaters, it has the traditional straight vain beaters only, its body design is identical in shape and style as the black one you chose as the winning mixer for under $30.00. My overall evaluation, my inexpensive Hamilton Beach mixer which is 18 years old is still going strong, id definitely buy another Hamilton Beach if push came to shove. Now the Kitchen Aid mixers are my second preference, i would only consider the winning Kitchen Aid model you tested, on part 2 for mixers $30.00 and over. Love your equipment reviews!!

I have used those beaters before too with the stem inside, thinking that it would mix better but it always got hung up, just like the viking did with you Amy.. I have the breville hand mixer and though its nice, I love the light that shines into your bowl but its heavy Amy, at least for my older shoulders. I wish they could make it lighter because then I would love it. I have used the kitchenaid 9 speed and found it awkward to change the speeds and dont care for the cuisinart at all. The one iM presently happy with is a hamilton beach 5 speed professional hand mixer. Its a pretty candy apple red. Thank you for taking the time to post this review. I see you have that horrid kenmore in back of you.. I thought you had returned the thing.. have a nice day Eric and Amy and thank you!

Good review. I had the cuisinart but returned it because it was awkward to use and speeds weren’t ideal. I bought the exact architect and like it. But I also have a breville and it’s better than any hm I’ve used. However, beware that it overheats if used extended time like while making mayo. (It weirdly doesn’t have good air intake vents for cooling) Thanks Amy and Eric

Thanks for your awesome reviews! I've had the Kitchenaid hand mixer for years and have loved it, but the motor is fizzling out, so I'm in the market for a new one. I bought the Cuisinart because I liked the container and the extra accessories. However, I was not happy with it; loud, the low speeds start out high and cause splatter before they calm down to low, and the controls were chintzy. So, I'm returning it, and went back on line and bought the newer Kitchenaid and purchased the whisk accessary separately.

I've had a KitchenAid 5-speed hand mixer for over 20 years, and it's time to replace it. I like that the newer models have the adjustable cord feature. I was debating between the digital 7-speed or the 5-speed like I have now. After watching your video (and many others!), I've decided to go with the 5-speed. One of the features of the 7-speed and 9-speed mixers is that it will intuitively increase power when it senses a heavier dough, and I think that's why you felt like you were "losing control," and it was bucking. With the 5-speed, I won't have to worry about that. If I want more power, I just increase the speed, manually. Anyway, thank you for the thorough review. Yours was the one that helped me make my decision (and it was a tough decision!). Hopefully, I'm making the right one! : )

I'm still using my KitchenAid Ultra Power Soft Start 7 Hand Mixer, from 1992. It draws a mere 1-amp of power and weighs-in at [what now appears to be] a 'whopping' 1103 g. I must say I've never thought of it as heavy, but perhaps I need to reconsider that. And in spite of it providing yeoman service for these 25+ years, it has been acting flaky in its recent outings in the kitchen, so your review will come in quite handy as I replace it in the very-near future. Timing is everything - thanks so much for this great review.

I bought the Architect last year one time when Macy's had a good sale. I really like it! I don't think cookies with a hand mixer is ever ideal though it will work if you need it to, but it does great with everything I have used it for. It's quiet, light and nice to use. I had a Cuisinart some years back for a short time but did not care for it. Low speed was much too fast and it would make a mess. If you have any taller, narrower bowls (I have a Fire King with a handle and spout, looks kind of like a smaller version of the glass Kitchenaid bowl) you might enjoy using it more with a hand mixer. I have a set bowls like the ones you were using and I don't like to use it as well with those.

If I found the right Kitchenaid model, I'm not sure, but I found a Kitchenaid 7-speed on a Norwegian site, and it there said one place (product description) it had an 18 watt DC motor, but another place (technical specs) said 85 watt. So it is maximum 85 watt, I guess. But maybe as low as 18 watt. Sounds very low, but maybe it is so. Another motor, another technology, some magic and some good luck, and there you have it, an 18 watt mixer just as strong as anything else. Could be as easy as that. Or not.

The Cuisinart cord tucks under the mixer and will fit in the plastic tool holder container. The whipping of cream is useless here unless one is comparing how fast they whipped. Ideally one want an hand mixer weighing under 3 lbs. The Viking has been tested by others and found to be more powerful. The KitchenAid is powerful and much quieter the previous AC motor models. If you were to use straight sided bowls the mixer would work more efficiently and less chance of spattering. Amy used the wire beaters instead of the regular beaters would have rated as good as the KitchenAid. There is no quantitative data , just Amy's opinion and judgement. Too bad you did not test the KitchenAid 9 speed, it has bigger wire beaters and soft-start too. The technique seen here was just awkward. Noticed you have brought out the Kenmore Ovation, are you planning to try testing it again? Amy you have done better reviews in the past you get a thumbs down for this video.

Can't you see that the cord of the Cuisinart has a rotating mechanism like hair flat irons, all you have to do is turn it forward and place the cord inside the box. My sister has one of this and it is written in the instructions a swell

The way Amy struggles to understand that the cord can be stored in the Cuisinart storage compartment.... Reminds me of those infomercials where people struggle to do the simplest tasks in the world.

The Cuisinart mixer is heavier because it has a more powerful motor. I can tell that the KitchenAid runs slower than the others, even at its highest speeds. In the KitchenAid, lightness is weakness.

I have the artisan version. It's ok. I also have an old yellow ka hand mixer. It's not digital. I'm going to try and find an old metal hand mixer. The quality difference between a ka stand mixer and hand mixer is so far apart. I will.not purchase another plastic fantastic hand mixer. In the ka hand mixers defense, they are both 12 and 20 years old. The beaters are now Bent
