"What is the Metaverse" In Mark Zuckerberg's aging imagination, it's a place where billions of people strap a 1.1 pound screen to their face and watch Wii Avatars interact with each other. It's like reality, only better... except it's not. Because in a virtual coffee shop, all your see are the wrinkles on your grandmother's face and the shitty music playing in the background. You don't taste coffee. Which brings up the question: Why go to a virtual coffee shop when you can't taste coffee? Why not take that 1.1 pound screen off your head and go to the kitchen to have coffee with your wife? In short, it's Second Life. And we all rejected that over a decade ago. I have enough screens. The last thing I want is something strapped to my face for hours. I just can't fathom the insanity that made anyone think this is a good idea. And the fact that this is the kind of thing that corporations envision for the world - reducing it to a video game in front of your eyeballs - is scary. It's just adding another screen to the world, and no one needs this. Even if the screen is 2 inches from your eyeballs, it's still just a screen. The absolute only way that "virtual reality" will be desirable is if they can literally duplicate the three other senses: Touch. Taste. Smell... and nix the screen. Which isn't possible. UNLESS THERE WAS SOME WAY TO EXPERIENCE FLIGHT, ,SUMMER BREEZES, COFFEE SHOPS, AND RESTAURANTS WITHOUT ANY TECHNOLOGY. Know what would give people those experiences? Logging the fuck off. Mark's nightmare. This technology has a future, but it's not as a companion to real life. It's to allow people to time travel and experience things as a spectator. I would love to step into a booth and walk around during the Revolutionary period, to feel the things happening then. To interact with historical figures. This is going to be recreational tech. Stop putting it where it doesn't belong. We don't need to duplicate the reality around us now, it's enough as it is. But if they'd shift it to recreational time travel experiences and maybe even "Be _______ for a year" activities, it would be neat. They need to shift from duplicating present reality and start thinking about letting people step into previous or imagined realities. Give me something I don't have.

I rarely read really intelligent text on youtube, but you really nail it... One must work hard or be dum to miss the entire plot of the Matrix dilema... Do i want to stay in a fake world, where i can taste the steak, or do i take the red pill and go to reality where i have to live on a gray distasteful goo"... Except... Metaverse would be the other way around as you pointed out... Do i want to stay in reality where i can taste steak, feel sex and have fun, or bash a 1:1 pound screen to my eyeballs and not experience anything of value.

GTA 5 didn't get a mention, but Fortnite does...
