My grandpa left behind a bunch of killer retro ties and I wear them all the time in business casual situations. They really seem well received. I try to dress at the top end of what is expected, and see business casual as a free pass to break some of the business (not causal) rules. Like thick wool ties, crazy socks, sneakers, etc.

Swear. I always change my outfit when I watch one of these. Dark wash jeans, white sneaks and a light thermal long sleeve shirt became dark jeans, silk polo & wing tipped Chelsea boots (brown, with a matching belt of course). Now I feel ready!

Ashley, I work in tech….business casual is vague, you’re spot on…in the companies I’ve worked at, upper management usually dresses to the expected BC but the worker bees don’t. It’s super casual (tees, shorts, flip flops, sneakers, etc).

When choosing a leather watch, make sure that the strap color matches your belt and shoes. Here's another pointer: make sure that any metal you're wearing is the same color > for example, if you are wearing a silver watch, do NOT put a gold tie bar on the tie you're wearing- It clashes!

I love a polo fitted as long as it doesn't have that dreaded floppy polo collar. I am a college kid, but I do dress semiformally so it was fun to see all this laid out. Some wear their pajamas to college, but most fall somewhere in this lineup, so it still applied. You've really helped grow and nurture my fondness for clothes and presenting myself well, I don't know if I would have bought my first pair of penny loafers if it wasn't for you. I don't think this video addressed the stuffiest level of business casual (for example, business casual at a law office), where a dress shirt, dress slacks, and Oxford shoes would be acceptable and common (though not mandatory) for business casual. For just about everyone else, I think this video give excellent advice.

Fashion is arbitrary, often enough the rules she goes over in these videos are best seen as basics for men. After all if the rules she said were hard rules then people in other culutres would look ridiculous in the preferred outfits and trendsetters would be a myth whispered about by tailors.

Great video. But I can stop thinking “match belts to your shoes” my mind goes straight to white shoes, white belt haha

Basically I can wear absolutely anything I want to work but always try to look professional and well dressed.

Bruno Marc has some great, economic options for dress shoes! Just got my first pair from them!

What a comprehensive overview.

At 12:40 you mentioned Metal Cuffs for accessories. It would be great to maybe have a video that covers good metal cuff accessories. Even just finding good metal cuff or bracelet accessories isn’t the easiest thing for a fashionable guy as their are just fewer outlets for men to buy their things as compared to so many outlets for women in every sub category of clothing and accessories.

My personal style is so far from business casual and for comfort reasons I only own cargo pants and tshirts. Seems like I'll have to invest a bit in my wardrobe for work!

Overall good advice and I agree that business casual is very ambiguous and depends on your workplace. though, unless the dress code is very casual I would recommend that you wear dress socks with your loafers, it's just an overall cleaner and more put together look. :)

Boat shoes get a lot of hate, but they are a good place to start. You can then graduate to suede derbies or brown wingtips and similar shoes. Those snoes look better but are harder to know when to wear for the novice.

Came here for business casual wear for a new job, however I now believe Ashley does not have a belly button! 😅

What do you think of Oxford shirt, rolled up sleeve, clean white low pro leather sneaker, chinos but add a tie? I’m the only one that wears a tie, but I kinda like it… like it sets me apart.

I want to dress nice but I'm in IT and I'm always moving dirty computers and going under peoples dirty desks on my knees where they keep dirty shoes. Most of the time the areas are super dusty, dirty and there are food crumbs. The carpet is discolored with dirt and salt from sidewalks.. Not sure what to wear...

if you choose a light, breathable fabric and your trousers are not very tight, they work great, if not better than shorts since they also protect your skin from direct sunlight. So try to avoid any kind of synthetics and rather opt for more natural fibres. It will work wonders. But if you really like shorts just wear them. I reckon you know where they could be inappropriate like at the church for example? Just wear them as long as it's not inappropriate or completely out of place. Good style is one thing but being comfortable is way more important. And if you feel like wearing shorts, don't let yourself stop because some people dislike them.

The only 2 I disagree wirh is socks and slides at lest they look better then flip flops and think there comfortable and second white socks are super nice looking and stylish I dont care

Most of my office wears t-shirts and jeans. Once I get all these items, I'll easily be the most dressy guy in the office :)

I love how 99% of mens "fashion" channels are just the most boring looking clothes you can think of. Almost all of the examples are of really good looking men. Like models. These types of clothes only shine because the guys are really good looking. So, yeah. Dress like this and you will look like every other loser out there. This is the perfect way to attract people within your range or under. You are limited by how you look if you do this. Honestly. Do you think anyone will be impressed by your chelsea boots when every other guy wears them AND they are more attractive than you? This is how women want you to dress when they already are dating you. There are a lot of tips that are valid, but you need to break many of them as well if you want to stand out. Sometimes i think people hate everything that goes against the norm because they cant read you. If you look like everyone else, there is less to analyze and comprehend about you. And dont dress your age. Its perfect if you hate dating younger women. There is a middle ground and a lot of stuff you can pull off. Leather jackets are a good example. No offense to this channel, but just about every style she likes is a guy thats as soft and boring as a piece of stale bread that always happens to be a model. She doesnt like badboys, so she doesnt like that style. And this is pretty common. Sorry for the rant. I enjoy many of these videos, but the styling in this one is just as exciting as the 90s models on a countryside romanian no-brand clothing store.

Are we saying that indigenous formal wear such as African or Indian regalia is not business appropriate or professional bc it's too colorful and comes with accessories? What has been described in this video seems incredibly rooted in traditional views of what is professional. The stylist claims they've dressed men of all walks of life, sizes and shapes. Yet what we've seen presented here is the stereotypical one dimensional view of business casual style that we've been taught is the universal standard. Maybe this 'stylist' needs to widen their range and understand that style, whether business or otherwise, is not a monolith.

Seriously? Bruno Marc? Promoting fast fashion trash like this may hurt your credibility.
