Your pdf Hat Buying Guide doesn't cover all of the hats in this video, I was looking for more information on flat caps and hats similar to it because I think they would compliment the shape of my face. You cover the Newsboy, but you said there is a wide variety of styles and variations of flat caps and I was hoping they would be covered in your pdf but I don't see them in there? I'm looking for one less flashy than a beret.

The flat cap is having a resurgence right now mostly due to the absolutely incredible BBC series Peaky Blinders, which is a show about gangsters in Birmingham in the 1920s. The style in the show is fantastic, and I’d love to see a video on it

I’ve always worn a flat cap thanks to my uncle. I recall needing a hat because it was cold out and I borrowed one of his and was surprised to see how well it framed my face and well… I’ve never looked back. The thing I love about the flat cap is that it can look casual, semi-casual, or formal depending on what you’re wearing and they make some that have hidden ear flaps for winter!

Hey Marine, When I went through Infantry Officer School at Ft Benning in 1981 the M1951 was called a Ranger Patrol Cap and was easy to roll up and put into your cargo pocket. The modern-day Army field cap is a descendant of those old Ranger Caps. Semper Fi Marine.

The Indiana Jones movies got me into the fedoras, and I have a Indiana Jones looking fedora I wear with my brown leather jacket. I avoid cotton watch caps because if they get wet they are useless. Wool on the other hand, retains something like 90% it's ability to help keep you warm even when it's wet. Thanks for another great video.

I have a capsule wardrobe and have five hats (which is a lot when I say it out loud). • Watchcap (beanie folded yo twice) which I wear often for Fall and Winter. (I have one in black and one in navy). • Flatcap. It’s a light tweed which I can wear in the Fall, Winter, and Spring • Yukon hat. This one is a heavier tweed and has flaps I can tie up or bring down for really cold weather. I placed a small Knights of Columbus enamel pin up front. • Dad hat. It’s a navy cap with a small 👌 outline. It was $5 and wanted to have a cap leisurely days.

I bought a trilby a couple years ago, and I basically got it cuz it was the single hat I found anywhere that actually fit my head. I stopped wearing it a while ago cuz I started wearing more "casual" clothes due to suits not being too fit for my work. But a couple weeks ago I got into a chinese store nearby and found a flat cap that has the folding bit shown in the video, so I bought it right away and haven't stopped using it, but besides being the right fit, it was also about $3 and was the only one in the store. A couple days later though, I found the same one in brown on another store, and again, was the only one there so I got that one too. I've never been much of a hat person, but oh boy does it feel great to wear one when it fits you just right.

A point about the bowler that many people don't realise is that its relatively tight fit around the head coupled with its high crown allows you to wear it in turbulent weather but have your hair completely untouched. Unlike caps, the inside of the bowler is mostly not in contact with the hair at all.

Excellent video. Photos taken before 1865 feature bowlers because the cowboy hat wasn't invented yet. John B Stetson invented it in 1865 and they became popular however most could not afford one. Most Stetsons were made of beaver and his first hat sold for a $5 gold coin. They have always been expensive and still are. A Stetson beaver felt hat today is over $1000. The cheaper versions are rabbit/hare felt and some are mixed with beaver. I recently bought a pure European rabbit felt Stetson cowboy hat for $250 and it's a very nice hat indeed. I sprayed it with felt hat protector to make it water proof. It's very comfortable, stylish and practical to wear. Would love a pure beaver felt hat someday. I feel a western hat is the most stylish hat of all and many ladies agree. The tall cattleman crown makes me look taller and my face narrower. A pinch crown fedora makes my face look fatter.

Hi Antonio, I have heard many compliments on the fact that I am a "hat guy." I have worn the fedora for many years. I don't understand why more men do not wear the hat. I see so many men wearing baseball caps and think I am so different. Do they not realize that we have more similarities than differences. I commented on your video where you mentioned wearing hats about a year ago. The style of hat is very personal and not all hats look good on all men, hence, it is important to get the right style that fits your face, clothing and personality. I wear the fedora because I wear suits most of the time and the more formal hat fits me best. Be open minded as you seek out the best hat style for you. I too like the flat cap and newsboy as well. Good luck in your quest for the right style for you. You will be amazed at how often you are complimented for your courage to go against the norm and sport a real mens hat, not a baseball cap. Best of luck. John, Sacramento, CA

Loved the video, Antonio! I’m partial to the flat cap as it’s the one that frames my face the best, although I have been guilty of switching to baseball caps if it gets unseasonably hot out. I wanted to point out another thing on the history of flat caps for anyone that’s interested and it’s that when the English law was passed requiring these caps to be worn, men with money were able to pay a small fee to wear a different hat. This has been credited with the historical association the flat cap has with the working class (in Britain at least). David Hume wrote about this somewhere in his volumes on the History of England (had to read one of them for a class back in undergrad) although I don’t think many people would call the cap he wore in his portrait painting “stylish” haha.

I have a Panama hat that I bought thirty years ago that is still looking good. It has a plain tan ribbon sewn on, so I cover it with a colored one, usually a red tone, the type of hat ribbon with hooks on the ends. I love the hat and wear it daily in the summer. I call it my 'Barney Fife' hat as it looks like the one he wore when off duty on the Andy Griffith Show. Had someone call from their car a couple of months ago, asking what that kind of hat was called. He then said that I "rocked it." In the last couple of years, I've started wearing a maroon porkpie in the winter. Talking about needing confidence for a hat. Took a couple of years to get brave enough to wear it due to the color, but now I really like it and am sorry when it gets too hot for it. (I live in the Sonoran Desert.)

I love my ushanka. Being a truck driver from Montana it's one of the best for staying warm while being unique and stylish. And it creates a great laugh if you can do the accent to claim you're looking for moose and squirrel.

You didn't mention the Kepi, famously seen in French foreign legion films like Beau Geste. However, the back panel keeps the sun off the neck. Thus, making this type of hat good for boating and sailing when there's little shade to hide from a hot summer sun.

Australian here. We love our Akubras for good reason. It's like one of those brand names like "Hoover" or "Windsurfer" or "Frisbee" where the brand becomes synonymous with the object, so "Akubra" and "hat" are almost interchangeable. But there's another style of hat which is very popular here, and very practical: the straw beach hat. Breathable, light, and wide brimmed, it gives you a lot of protection from the sun. It's not just for beach wear. Australians are pretty informal people and the beach hat seldom looks out of place. Even at night in the rain.

Thank you for the shout-out to Akubra, they're a brand I swear by. I own several hats made by them, though mostly dress hats (namely the Stylemaster and the Bogart), and my father is a lifelong loyal customer of theirs as were both of my grandfathers. Mind you, in my neck of the woods at least, when people think of Akubra, they tend to think of the Snowy River, which is typically khaki in colour, has no liner and has that sort of cowboy/stockman look, with the brim curved somewhat at the sides.

The cowboys and Stetson in particular were influenced by the wide brimmed sombreros the vaqueros wore. That's why he made the Boss of the Plains. I've started wearing flat caps in the last 6 or 8 months. Really like a linen one without lining in summer also got a mesh one. Both are cool in summer Used to wear boonies a lot and an Outback whenever it rained or was cooler.

What I'm missing missing is talk about COLOR! The color of the hat is REALLY important, especially with the more casual hats like the flatcap, paperboy hat and baseball hat. Please make a video about the color of hats! Thanks

@@joeybaseball7352 Unless it's black or white one (you) still needs to watch out. Even a formal hat with formal clothes it can still come over as too over-the-top (tophat pun unintentional). A color matching accessories can be good option for some situations, or even another color altogether with everyday wear. Many non-formal hats like paperboy hats have patterns; how about those... The thing with color is is that you'll have to mind how it reflects on your skin tone and the amount of attention it can grab from viewers (imagine a black suit with red accents and a red hat; what will people be looking at?..).

Despite the title of this video, I think it's also important to recognize that women can wear these hat styles. I regularly like to wear my own flat cap, beanie, or fedora. Granted, some fabrics and patterns are more feminine than others. In today's fashion culture, it's only another sign that the line separating female from male designs continues to blur.

Here are my hats that work quite well, and were affordable providing excellent protection from elements while looking good. Three flat caps, brown, black, and light grey. Panama Brown fedora Ushanka Two toboggans(watchcap) Boonie cap Jayne Cobb Beanie These were bought secondhand or given to me. I do want a few more though. Would love an astrakhan, homburg, a boater, bowler, and a cowboy hat, but I never can seem to find them in thrift shops.
