We had a rather poor hatch for the first one of the season. We started with a new incubator, and a new rooster. Fertilization was not terrible at day 7 but not great; it got worse at day 16, and we've hatched 2 so far out of 22 eggs. The next batch will probably go in the incubator tomorrow or Sunday. Now that the kinks are worked out and the rooster knows his job, I'm hopeful for a much better hatch for the next round.

Oh that's awful. I hear you with the rooster. Our chantecler rooster doesn't know his job either. We have had no fertile eggs with him. Either I'll need to look for another rooster or move on from them. I hope this next hatch is better for you. What did you get for your new incubator? Hope you are doing well. It's good to hear from you.

@PloughmansBackyard it's all part of the life, right? We found a Hova-bator 1583 with the egg turner. So far, it seems to work well, I like the clear open plexiglass top and the ease of controlling the temp. I think we'll have much better luck with the next batch. Hope to see you folks at the conference in May.

I have heard good things about the Hova-bator and being able to see in the top is really nice. The one we had experience with was older and i wasn't impressed by it. I am hoping to be there but I am not 100% certain yet.
