    I tried to order one of their folders from their website. The website said they were out of stock, but I could sign up to receive notification when they get some back in stock. The notification function didn't work, so I sent them a Facebook message asking them about it. After several days, they finally replied, but they didn't really answer my question. So, I commented on one of their posts, telling them I've been trying to get a straight answer from them for about a week. Instead of reaching out to me with anything that could be construed as customer service, they BLOCKED ME! Are you kidding me?! Now, I've made it my personal hobby to tell everyone I know online, and in person about the AT&T-like customer service I received from Colonel Blades. They WILL answer my question "When will your folders be back in stock?" one way or another.

I carry a Leatherman Wingwan with pocket clip where you would ordinarily carry a standard pocket knife. So...... By carrying the NCO in my watch pocket, I can keep the Wingman in the position I like it in.

He was also wearing a pair of shorts that went all the way to his ankles. So that proves that no matter what mental state your in, you can still carry a big old knife.

I just want to always have the sharpest possible edge on my fighting knife. Plus I found that I get fewer leery glances when I pull out my Cold Steel Recon 1 for cutting boxes than I do pulling out the Colonel.

    How is it for reversed hand technique? I am a lefty, and I generally hold the blade down and out for defense. I.e. strike up through the midsection, then thrust down through the neck, chest, leg, back, or arm depending on position. Kind of wish that was addressed in the video. Great content as always.

    @TWANGnBANG

    You're right that I needed to show it. It's certainly doable, but it's definitely much more comfortable to hold the way I show it. FWIW, this is a thrusting blade, and held in your fist the way I show, you get many more inches of reach that you'll ever get from a reverse grip slashing motion.

Give me a break.

  • @RSUG

    The longer the knife range the better. That is why professionals train with and carry firearms. The knife is a close range backup regardless of size in a deadly force situation when accessing the firearm is not an option.

  • @TacticalBunnyCA

    @@RSUG did you proofread your reply? Because I have no idea what point you're trying to make. I am using the Cold Steel Espada as an extreme example of how calling the colonel "the best" option is false. I really do think it is good to great if not fantastic option but calling it "the best" lacks logic.

  • @RSUG

    @RSUG

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@TacticalBunnyCA Yes indeed. Again a longer/larger knife is best. However, not always practical. Thus the question is best in what context. The Cold Steel Espada XL is hardly a practical everyday carry knife. Ease of concealment, ease of access as well as how it integrates with the rest of your equipment should be considered when determining what is "BEST".

  • @TacticalBunnyCA

    @TacticalBunnyCA

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@RSUG I do agree that caring a Xl Espada is Impractical but I carry a large Espada and a 4 inch Talwar both of which I think would be at least equally up to the primary task laid before us in this review. If you look at the end of the review he makes some pretty bold, general and conclusive statements that would not necessarily exclude the XL Espada from being a part of the discussion which is why I chose it as an extreme example. Personally I only carry pocket deployable or "waveable" options. For me anything's that has to be deployed with a flipper tab is a no-go. Flippers are slower to deploy and take way too much time and intricate manual dexterity to be reliably deployed in an emergency s"%* hit the fan three seconds ago situation. This specific knife looks like it might have additional deployment issues that he even points out in the video. Putting my own preferences aside, I just think that for as much validity as this review has there's almost an equal amount of hype verging on BS specifically because of the very definitive and uncategorized words he chooses to use. Doesn't "The non knife fighters fighting knife" comes across as being a bit of a sales pitch to you?

  • @RSUG

    @RSUG

    5 жыл бұрын

    Well stated. Yes, II think while selling of the pros and cons of a particular tool of defense one should always encourage skills over tools. Certainly some tools are more intuitive than others, but training of non knife fighters for both adrenaline stress and tactics is more important than the tool available.

  • @BeingFireRetardant
    @BeingFireRetardant5 жыл бұрын

    @Twang n' Bang... Based on what you stated are the salient features you appreciate about this knife, I strongly recomend you take a look at Krudo Knives "Snag" family of blades. I carry a Snag Controller and Snag Half Serrated on my hips every day, for well over five years now. Much more intuitive grasp from pocket, with punching ring, pain-compliance thumb pressure stud and flipper point available without even deploying blade, which, should you have to escalate to sub-lethal or lethal, takes only a micro-second. Aggressive jimping relief everywhere you want it, smooth where you do not. Odd geometry by design. Not a thrusting tool, much more a grapple and control/slashing punch set of tools. Expensive, but very well built. Extremely rugged, but not a camping knife. The sole purpose is for escalation of force defensive combat. These are serious fighting knives for serious people... Pictures do not do it justice, you have to hold it to see the genius of the design geometry. Looks like a backwards karambit, but is much more versatile in many ways. You can punch from the draw, unopened. But once deployed, dangerously impactful. Little mini Velociraptor claws, really, that tear as much as cut. Very nasty stuff. I carry the non-sharpened Controller on my support side, and should conflict arise, it would be deployed first, because you now have Options to inflict massive pain, and Options of extreme limb control and locks, plus Having The Option of not going to prison for a murder charge. However, if absolutely neccessary, the strong side has the very deadly live blade option. Look into these, as a pair. (This is not some mall ninja wannabe airsoft crap.) Study these as a working team, they compliment each other by design. They ABSOLUTELY take regular practice to deploy safely, and yes, you will get cut at first... But slow down, train on the mechanics correctly, and they become lightning fast and intuitive. Once you understand the geometry and use, circular hook and slash attacks are simple, powerful, and effective. Not to mention just straight up punching/boxing attacks. Very few knives in my lifetime of collecting and studying blade geometry produce the amount of force delivered by these tiny two inch blades. A very secure extension of the hand, honestly. Yes, I carry a "regular" straight blade knife for normal daily use, naturally. But since your video is about a folding combative karambit variation, I figured my feedback is relevant. Look, if it's a question of dying, or having the option of stopping an attack on you or someone else, choose wisely if you decide to act. But if you do act, a ballpoint pen is better than empty hands, and a regular blade is better than a pen, and purpose built combat/pain-compliance hook blades are better even still. (Beyond that you are getting into K-bar/TOPS territory, or of course, some type of a firearm.) But let's say fixed blades are not an option? If all you have is a gun, you have already chosen your only option is lethal force. And guns have vastly missunderstood liabilities for the avearge CPL holder. I'm all for CPL's, just as much as I am for training repeatedly on ANY deadly force tool/skill set. Why would you not? So why not carry, like the many professionals, something light, small, and convenient, that gives you a less than lethal option? That is much better to be able to defend in a courtroom. Your video review was great, as is most of your content. These little Krudo claws are, in my opinion, just a further development of your exact concept here. Precisely and specifically the Snag Controller, if they still sell it. Worth looking into, is all. Thanks, and keep 'em coming. ;- )

    Two things: First, great channel! You put a lot of work into your videos, and it shows. Also hands down the best intro music on the the Internet. Could be thirty seconds longer, even... ;- ) And I am really impressed that you take the time to respond to the comments. That's the sole reason I wrote that overlong disertation on the Krudos, lol, because I thought you might actually consider the concept. No point in throwing words out into the ether... ( So thanks for thinking critically. ) Secondly, the knives... Yes, they are pricey. I got mine as a combo deal for $260. Don't know how much love I have for his pricing, and he distributes some very "just ok at best" designs. He has some fixed blade winners, though. I am a bit embarrassed I didn't know it was Chinese mfg. But I am very critical of durability, it is my No.1 criteria. And I find no fault in this pair in that regard. Just know I've bought/sold/gifted probably a hundred knives over the past 30yrs, and I am always looking for a better mousetrap, in terms of design and blade geometry specifically. If all goes well, in about a year I will have some of my own designs to release. It's like a never ending passion to try to make the perfect blade. Anyway, thanks again for the response. Like ForgottenWeapons/InRange, MAC, LateBoyScout,and GarandThumb, you continue to produce top tier content and reviews. Well done, sir.

    I would carry it. In a environment where I need to have a backup to my main weapon. Or in an environment where a pocket knife is the main option. But saying that . every time I pulled a s&w 686 on a bad guy. The fight was over. And a knife was not needed. That's 30 years of working alone at night.

    Indeed. Pretty much in all crowded areas (bars, clubs, social events) guns are a liability. Miss the attacker, hit an innocent, Instant manslaughter charge. Knives eliminate that issue and are perfect for that environment.

    @@TWANGnBANG no, not really. You surely can have this opinion, it's a free country. But i would never ever draw a knife if there's any other option. Are guns allowed where you are? If not, how about something like a Jpx Jet protector www.usconcealedcarry.com/piexon-jpx-jet-protector-pepper-gun-hi-tech-swiss-oc-defensive-system/ or, if you can't carry those a simple pepper spray? Otherwise I would consider a self defence umbrella - get some distance between you and your (maybe multiple) attackers. A knife as a tool and a last defence? For sure, I have one with me all the time, it's a tool you can use every day for multiple things as you know. As I said, you are old enough to choose your options, and if a knife is all you nerd and like, go for it. For me a knife as self defence Optik is risky at best. By the way: love your channel, you do great stuff! :-)

    I say this, Colonel Blades has great marketing, but the production blades are mediocre at best. Used for its intended purpose, the fixed blade will twist in your hand, with the finger guard banging the index finger with each blow. The sheath is also substandard.

    The Colonel is actually a great tool. However, should the unit be unlocked with a finger through the loop it would act like a cigar cutter under impact. Be sure that it is positively locked open before impacted anything. Also, they do have the companion trainer.

    It would not. The finger guard is fat and dull and does not push the finger into equally sharp edges on the other side. I challenge you to put your finger in a cigar cutter and press as hard as I can tolerate with the colonel. Would make a great video. ;) The companion trainer is not included, though I did show it in the video.

    Ears and testes come off very easily. Eyes pop right out of socket with a simple thumb poke. Your mouth is capable of biting flesh off anything your assailant gets too close to your face (nose, face, wrist tendons, biceps or forearm muscle, etc.). Happens all the time in street fights- just search LiveLeak. If this is something you don't already know, you need to reevaluate how you plan to defend yourself in a life-or-death fight, which is what you better be in if you're pulling a knife. You are capable of much more destruction without additional tools than you clearly realize. Oh, and I walk with my folder in my hand when things look sketchy and I don't have my gun all the time. I guarantee you I'll have that blade out faster than someone having to draw from a sheath. I also guarantee you that if you walk around with a fixed blade in your hand, you're going to get shot or arrested, but hey, civil disobedience is a thing, right? ;)

    it is a terrible knife for defense. A fighting knife - if we can agree to stop being PC about it - cannot be forcing you into a particular grip. This one forces you to always have the blade "out", and hardly lets you have your blade "down" at all. Forget about all the Filipino knife bs-do you see on KZread. Look at military fighting knifes. British Fairbairn's dagger or US military Ka-Bar. That's what it looks like. Of course for CC you will have to go smaller, maybe even folding, but the general idea remains the same. If you don't trust the military to pick up a good fighting knife - there are now people who are trying to take knife fighting to the same level as other hand to hand combat. They hold competitions. Look what shape of knifes they use. You will not see a karambit there, and for a good reason. Because it's terrible.
