@@BrianandCarrieIt’ll be summer in Rio and very, very hot. I was in Rio in July or their “winter”. The sunset from the Sugar Loaf was spectacular. São Paulo was also hot as well as the Iguaçu falls ( amazing) but much less than in “summer”. Buenos Aires was much cooler though. I went to Cartagena, Colombia in December and it was very hot and humid but Bogotá was cool and comfortable (it’s in the mountains). Beautiful. Lima, Cusco and Arequipa in November which is cool since in the mountains, of course, Machu Pichu… need to see it to believe it. Chile… perfect weather in November too. Panama City in December, hot and humid but easy to navigate ( old town). I could go back to Cartagena and Panama City despite being hot and humid but never Thailand or Singapore. Much less Thailand.

Turkey is amazing. Although housing costs increased so much during the past 18-24 months (I would assume similar Airbnb would cost no more than $600 two years ago) , it still offers amazing value to spend spring or late fall months .

Another very informative video. With costs for two people for 28 days at $2500USD, you are quickly convincing me that Turkey is a place to spend some quality time. It looks amazing, with the walking food and access to water/beaches. Even the 3/10 safety for parks is acceptable too, as I don't have that fear of heights! You show once again a way of travel that I would like to emulate without being "cheap". You eat well, stay in age-appropriate living (not hostels) and you are living in a new place. Thanks and I look forward to more of your adventures. Cheers

I just left Fethiye and arrived to Antalya today. I agree with much of what you said regarding Fethiye, the long bike/walking path, the marina area, and safety. On the con side, besides heat and heavy tourism during Summer, for me the main con was the locals smoking nasty cigarettes and many, both men and women smoke often and in groups. Also the mosque blaring out prayers was fine other than the 5am wakeup call. Still the people are nice, and the country offers a good value in my opinion.

Delighted you enjoyed the area which my family and I know very well and have frequently returned to over the past 15 years. Other places to visit I’d recommend should you return: Saklikent Gorge, Kabak and Ovacik (village in between Fethiye & Olu Deniz). Fethiye is such a lovely working City and as you’ve said not too big either. The only downside is that the gods didn’t really bless the Turkiye coastline with stunning sandy beaches. Yet that aside the Fethiye area remains our favourite part of Turkiye. We’re just back from Singapore, Cambodia and Thailand (Bangkok, Khao Lak & Khao Sok). Some of those destinations you’ve visited too I believe. Happy next adventures! Loving your videos!

Looking forward to your Rhodes trip. I've mentioned before, that is the one island I got to when we lived in Greece as a middle schooler (my older brother got to do spring break on Mykonos). I did a boy scout campout I think not far from the Valley of the Butterflies, but I remember hiking to Rodos, so maybe not that close to the Butterflies. Turkey really looks intriguing. Now you're cooking with gas. Turkey is fast becoming to go to retirement spot in the Euro region. Hopefully, you'll visit the retirement hotspots in Antalya and Bodrum and places in between. Pensions and tax benefits are great. Weather in the EU winters is good (not perfect, but agreeable) and the food/people are great and friendly. Sail boating in Turkey is probably the best in the world as it's a short trip over to the Greek Islands.

B&C thanks for the recap on Fethiye. I will be in Turkey in early - mid June at the end of a 3-1/2 month tour of Europe. After spending 5 days in Instanbul my goal was to find some place to kick back but also have some things to do. I was vascillating between Fethiye and Anatyla and am glad I decided to make my last 8 days in Fethiye. I will be in need of a place to "chillax". Yes, I know it is going to be hot; but hey I spent the last 14 years making sales calls in the Palm Springs area in CA where it got up to 118 - 120 degrees. Very reasonable prices for domestic flights...also the local dolmus is a great cheap local transport....you can get a travel kart and top it up. I spent a month there a few months ago, beautiful place and very historical areas to the north and south too. Loved the Kos area and went to St Nicholas's birthplace in Demre (what a drive from Fethiye). Drove to Gocek on a motorbike (very cold) and it was gorgeous. The only thing that really turned me off about Fethiye was the customer service at restaurants seemed to be non-existent and even doner kebab shops were ridiculously slow. The absolute best thing I did in Fethiye ended up being taking a ferry to Rhodes and checking all of that island out. It had history, good food (some ready to go type food shops everywhere in the main town as one would expect), drop dead gorgeous sites and just plenty to keep you occupied (museums etc). Realizing Rhodes was so close now makes Fethiye and the Turkey coast all the better for me.

Thank you for this video, and your views also for solo women travelers. I look forward to visiting, next year, in the off-season. I decided to become a resident of Mexico, and Mexico City is polluted during the winter/ spring months so travels to Europe will coordinate well when leaving the city. Besides avoiding huge tourist crowds when traveling, I also avoid places that are extremely hot, and/or polluted. I recently looked at your video on Thailand and the slash and burn is also in Mexico and South America, and that mixed with arrivals of desert dust on the trade winds has been difficult, overall. Thanks again!

Hello, I enjoyed watching the video and was amazed to see how unrecognizable Fethiye is. It's been many, many years since I went there, and at that time it was a village, with half a dozen hotels scattered around the surroundings, the most worthy of mention being Oludeniz beach. Did you go there? One of the best trips I took was when I rented a car and traveled along the coast, from Antalya to Bodrum. I loved every kilometer, every minute, I never went back there, except Bodrum. I've been back there mora than half a dozen times. And I clearly saw the changes that took place in what was already a well-known resort at the time. And, I mean, the heat is unbearable in the summer, I've been in July several times, unbearable, September is more friendly, this year I'm going to try it in June, I just hope the sea water is already at a pleasant temperature. Are you still thinking about going to Bodrum, after Greece? We may cross paths! Happy slow travel, prepare for the heat!

Prices of Airbnb has definitely gone up massively. I did manage to find your Airbnb online and for a 28 night stay from 9 March to 6 April 2025 the price is AU$5609.34 (this converts to US$3701.94 at todays exchange rate). That's a SIGNIFICANT increase and rules out any chance of us staying there. It will be interesting to see if that changes over the 6-12mths. Very much appreciate that you share your costings, the information we get is invaluable for us to plan our transition into a life of slow travel.

Hi, guys, I have to say where you were in Turkey looked very nice. The Airbnb was a little expensive, but given how nice it was and the location, it was probably worth every penny. I am guessing you are in Rhodes now and experiencing Greek prices. You are still not in peak season, so accommodation should be reasonable. I am looking forward to next Saturdays video.
