Ultimate Exhaust Guide for the BMW S1000RR & M1000RR!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
What header fits on my S1000RR? Do I need a servo buddy? Do I need a tune?
Here is the ultimate exhaust guide to answer all your questions!
With this guide, we hope to answer the most common questions that arise when purchasing a new exhaust for BMWs line of sport bikes (that is the S1000RR, M1000RR, S1000R & M1000R).
In terms of the header. Arrow and Akrapovic both make the top header options for the BMW bikes. And with each, there are stainless steel and titanium options. The titanium option offers more weight-savings, and the blueing effect for those who are into the aesthetic look, but the power gains are the same between the stainless steel header and the titanium header!
With the header, there are many slip-on options available. When it comes to the slip-on, any power differences would be miniscule, so the main things to consider with slip-ons are the look and desired tonal quality. Generally with the shorter mufflers you get a louder, more rowdy sound. With longer mufflers, the tone is quieter and more refined. Arrow, Akrapovic and SC Project all make great slip-on options.
Now, what about the full exhaust options? Here is the big disclaimer. If you purchase a full exhaust system, no matter what brand it is, you CANNOT switch the muffler end with a slip-on end. The full exhaust system are designed as a single unit, which means their routing differs greatly and only the muffler included in the full system pairs correctly.
We also cover the topic of ECU tunes. And we'll be completely transparent. You do not need an ECU tune! However, we strongly recommend it because it completely transforms the feel of the bike and removes all throttle restrictions. A stage 1 tune from BrenTuning may be the most transformative mod in terms of the riding experience for your bike!

Absolutely useful!! Thank you. So from your experience, which slip on gets you more HP? It’s probably subjective, but I also seen various folks use different ones. I saw 650ib’s Arrow got him more power than the Akro, but a lot of the MotoAmerica or WSBK use Akro. Your take on which one by priority maximize its potential for HP. Thx

I can say from personal experience that the material and craftsmanship of Arrow compared to Akrapovic are virtually equal with each other! Akrapovic might have a little higher price than Arrow but the materials used and master welders building these exhaust can virtually switch jobs and you couldn't tell who built what exhaust from each company unless they told you! The only differences I've seen out of eight bikes were the two shorty exhaust (one Akra gp and Arrow low shorty) made 1 to 2 hp less at peak power compared to the Akra Evo and Arrow Competition Evo! What I'm getting at is they are so dagum close that you need to solely pick which one you think looks the best to you because both are equal when it comes to performance and craftsmanship!
So many exhausts, so little time! 😁 I would love to see Austin Racing added to your collection at some point. The wait time is down to... 10 weeks. 😢

@Motomillion

Amazing tone, and not extremely loud. Best of both worlds!
For those that want sweeeeeeet sound but not obnoxious…… go with the SC Project SC1-R. It’s quieter than the shorty/GP and Manny should be able to hook it up.
Unless you are brand new to bikes and modding, I would hope you would have heard of Arrow. In the past Moto GP teams and WSBK teams have used Arrow as well. Arrow Italian made, Akra made in Slovenia
Great info. Especially for new riders. Too bad these exhaust are expensive but are definitely worth though.

There is way better options other than the main competitors (as mentioned). Black widow exhaust makes a great exhaust for the S1000rr for almost 75% less than what the main 2 offer. Do some more research fam and weigh your options

Titanium heats up faster and cool down faster, in the competition sense titanum is the best way to go, also arrow, makes pusative exaust systems which are techincally better than akrapovic, if you also work on your airbox, the real diference will come on the road with the ram air, arrow will do a lot better on street

I prefer short (but it made my ears hurt on this platform) so had to go long. Long actually gives more top end power, as it has more "pull", but it will weigh more and at this power level it's all about the sound really...
Does changing the filter and exhaust plus stage 1 flash effect/negate manufacture warranty? As always outstanding videos.
@Motomillion

Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, an aftermarket product added to your vehicle can not automatically void your warranty. The onus is on the manufacturer to prove without a reasonable doubt that the aftermarket item you installed on your vehicle directly caused the malfunction which you are trying to warranty.

Personally, i would not run a sprint filter, as the filtration isn't good enough. I run a bmc filter (non-race) as filtration is at oem level, and bmc is an oe part on some platforms, eg e46 csl.
@Motomillion
Жыл бұрын
Sprint Filter inherently has better filtration given the fact that they are polymer filters, and not sponge / paper. If you understand the construction you would not opt for anything else. All the fancy 40k bikes from Ducati come with Sprint Filter installed, and there is quiet a few MotoGP machines running Sprint Filters and WSBK as well.

Due to legality this should be titled track only exhaust guide for bikes that are not used on the street or ever will be. All you can do is a slip on as long as it does not make the exhaust too loud. Moto GP exhaust is NOT the same. As a shop you are risking the current EPA enforcers….. there is a crackdown. I’m, your statement about types of metal and power are completely false. Routing is important, how you control the heat to aid in venting is the most critical.
