ULTIMATE Continuous Bias Binding Tutorial - only 2 seams and a rotary cutter

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

There are lots of ways to make bias binding, but I find most of them to be inefficient, either wasting fabric or time. Marking and scissors? No thank you.
Anjeanette Klinder anjeanettek.com and I developed this fast, efficient and fun formula to make as much continuous bias binding as you need with only two seams, a long ruler, and a rotary cutter.

So I doubted your method, until I tried it on some of my "beyond ugliest" fabric. Miracle! Using your method is one I'll use from now on and that ugly fabric became beautiful as bias binding... thank you so much for sharing your time and talent and for an excellent tutorial. Wish I'd viewed this months ago. Kindest regards to you and your followers... we're all blessed to learn from you.

OMG it worked… I had tried the “parallelogram offset mark and scissors cut” method and got jagged edges. This way, I messed up the first seam (batik hard to see right or wrong side). But I trusted the process and got an accurate strip with straight edges. Thanks!

I don't normally comment on KZread posts, but this is--by far and away--the best method I have found to easily get perfect continuous bias without wasting a lot of fabric. That seems to be a recurring theme in almost every other continuous bias "how-to;" the methods may be "easy," but they almost all waste a lot of fabric and/or lead a person to believe that you MUST use a square piece of fabric. Thank you for your excellent tutorial!

My mother had this drawn on a piece of paper in her sewing machine for years. We could never decipher what her diagram was! At the time, I asked a lot of people how to do this and no one knew. She knew the note was to remind her of how to make bias tape, but she couldn't remember how it worked, only that it had to do with where to sew it...somehow! Your tutorial is exactly how it was done, she couldn't remember the cutting part!

Unbelievable - this is an absolute miracle! I love to use bias binding, but I hate making it. Almost 6 (six!) decades after I first picked up scissors, I still cannot cut an accurate straight line. Or an accurate curved line. Or basically any accurate line at all. So you can imagine my joy when I discovered rotary cutters. Except...every bias binding method I've ever found always required cutting with scissors. Not mention all the fussy angled little seams. But not anymore! Only 2 (two!) seams! A quilting ruler and 0 (zero!) marking! Best of all: A rotary cutter and no (nada! zippo!) scissors! My sewing life will never be the same. I cannot possibly thank you enough! But still, thank you.

Thanks so much for this tutorial, I was really intimidated by creating my first bias binding but this made it so quick and easy! I was using a layer cake pack so I sewed the squares together in a long strip then used this tutorial, it made a perfect scrappy binding! My one piece of advice for newbies would be to cut the strips slightly wider than your desired binding size and then trim down once you have the continuous strip - it’s much more of a pain, but it’s difficult to get really clean and straight cuts with this method imo.

This is sort of the way I was taught to make continuous binding except that I usually use a marking tool to to measure and mark the strips and then sew the seams offset, then cut the whole big strip after. It is hard to get the offset seams in the right place and hard to cut, especially if it is a thin bias or a small piece of fabric. Oh, and you absolutely have to start with a square. This method seems to be way more easy and efficient! Thank you!

Thank you for this tutorial. I just used your technique and your Magical Rainbow of Binding to make my binding. It was SO fast, and the yardage was spot on! I also used Sadie Hopkins tip to use a tailor's ham to press the seams open. The one thing that puzzled me was how much to leave uncut at the edges. I kept thinking the length of the cuts HAVE to be precise. I even marked two cut lines along the edges. Then, I made my cuts and the fog cleared. You really don't have to be precise. Leave 1.5 inches, 2 inches, all good. Wow! Trust the process indeed!

I typically steer clear of bias binding. However, a few months ago, I was doing a pattern that required it. I came upon this video and it worked like a champ. I’ve since shared this video with others. Watching it this time, I paused, took some screen shots, added some notes, and created a reference guide to remind me of the steps. Like everyone else, I’d love to know how to align the strips. More goal for the new year is to make a ton of bias binding to have on the ready when I need it. Great job!

So I had my doubts about this video because my first attempt at continuous bias strips went terribly wrong. Followed the video to a T or so I thought, but ended up with bias rings that I had to unstitch and sew them back individually 😅🤦🏾‍♀️ I came upon this one and gave it try tonight, MA'AM! I am thankful to God that I found this video. I don't have rotary cutters and the advanced rulers so I marked out with chalk and a ruler and used scissors but I got the same results. So thankful for this tutorial! ❤

I thought that the method that I saw yesterday was unique. This is a very good alternative to that method. I will probably use both. I will first try them with fat quarters. Thank you so much.

Wow! So much easier than measuring and using scissors. I have to work on my accuracy but I am so happy to find this method!
