ULTIMATE ALL-METAL GAME BOY COLOR WITH IPS BACKLIGHT KIT | FunnyPlaying and Boxy Pixel | Retro Renew

Ойындар

Retro Renew Episode Description: Step-by-step tutorial on how to build the Ultimate Game Boy Color using that latest Boxy Pixel aluminum shell and FunnyPlaying IPS display kit.
In today’s episode of Retro Renew, we’re going to build the perfect Game Boy Color! In this build we will be using a Boxy Pixel aluminum shell that has been anodized dark gray (looks like Apple’s Space Gray)! We will also be using Boxy Pixel’s Brass buttons which are simply amazing and have a real heft to them! Last, we will be installing a FunnyPlaying IPS display which features a full size screen meaning you can use a standard size lens rather than a custom one. So sit back, relax and join me as we build the Ultimate Game Boy Color console!
So here's what you will find in this video:
► 0:00 Episode Prelude
► 1:04 Overview of all the Components of the build
► 5:43 Tools and Products Needed
► 5:55 Let’s Start the Install!

Good questions Wizzy! Boxy pixel puts some sort of clear coat on his button which I believe so prevent oxidation. I think the metal in metal contact isn’t much of an issue from my time using it. Haven’t notice any gouging. Hope this helps. Cheers!

I have the brass buttons on my Boxy Pixel build as well. I recommend lacquering the the raw brass buttons to prevent oxidation, or at the very least slow down the process. Hit it with some alcohol (iso or denatured) to clean and then use a spray lacquer. I did three coats. They’ll stay shiny for a long time.

Macho Nacho Productions I’ve been trying to find a tutorial or even just basic info on adding Bluetooth audio to Gameboys. There’s one video I can find on KZread that shows one working but not much information on how it’s done beyond using a cheap Bluetooth transmitter board from eBay/AliExpress. I get that it’s not the most important mod-even the Switch doesn’t have Bluetooth audio-but one of the reasons I love modding is learning how these boards work. If you happen to read this (way too long) post and you’re up for it, I’d love to see a video involving adding Bluetooth audio to a Gameboy

I picked up a current revision GBA shell and haven’t been happy with it. There were several blemishes on the black finish that I had to clean up. He also increased the tolerances around the screen lens so there’s a 2mm gap around the IPS lens. There’s also a notch in the shell around the gap that’s going to let dust in. Contacted Nick, from Boxypixel, and he said due to manufacturing inconsistencies with the glass lenses he chose to side with caution and increased the tolerances so that all lenses fit.... I get that, I just wish he made his own so it doesn’t look as bad as it currently does.
