Reminds me of my home in PA. And many old rail beds have now become hiking trailes. Lots of history.

It's pretty amazing stuff! I remember as a kid that there was still in the middle of the woods we would come across water towers or coal bunkers. Just left in the woods to rot, but by today I'm sure most of these structures have long since been burned down or removed because of being an eyesore. But so much history still sitting around us all, it just takes a good eye like yours to fine them. Thank you for your work.

There is less and less RR related stuff to be found each and every year....that's why we love doing this documentation! Thanks!

Great channel, I just wanted you to know that a man by the name of Dr. Kudish, hiked the northern part of New York in order to document the abandoned railroad lines of years past. His book was called, “Where the tracks go.” He was a professor of dendrology and they have a small conversation area dedicated to him in the catskill mountains.

Samsonville is a great place! Yes- the CMRR could have been a viable link to not only tourist traffic but also light commuter rail for those living West wishing for a way into Kingston to work or shop.

As a kid, I spent summers in the Saugerties / Woodstock (Village) area. The old railroad always fascinated me. This would have been in the late 50's - early 60's. Thanks for the memories.

Hi Russ. I enjoy all your videos. You mentioned the CMRR section house came from Kingston, but was it a U&D building or a West Shore building originally? I remember seeing it at Shokan, but didn't know that wasn't its original home! Fascinating story about the Madden house.

Awesome stuff my man! Grew up in Hope-Less Juction Hopewell 24 years, then moved to western Ulster Co to get away from the 911 influx of city-iots which were making it impossible to live there and afford a home! So Over here in Ulster Co we have such a rich history in this department. The D&H canal system which became the D&H railroad. If it weren't for these things NYC would never have grown like it did back then. They call my area the "Bread Basket" of NYC. At the same time the D&H was supplying the fuel to keep NYC warm and the steam flowing under its streets! Without the whole D&H system from stop to finish, NYC would have never become the dump it is now! LOL! But in all seriousness yes NYC should be paying homage to what's now being referred to as the Ker-Hamptons of Kerhonkson, and now thanks to this BS covid we are being infiltrated yet again by City-iots buying up all the rental homes and properties in our area! This means one thing now! Time to sell again and leave NYS period! I'm getting too old for this garbage to keep moving into this area as it's quite quickly going to sh!t as we speak! Now these are the same "People" who want their farm to table foods, but now their here as are the farms or race tracks..... these scumbags who moved in knowing these things already exist, are filing lawsuits to banish the farms because of the sights smells or traffic due to living in the "Country" Yes! This is no lie! They're definitely destroying everything they come into contact with to suit their desires! They've done this to every place they've moved to! Now we have to have a D&D and Starbucks on each and every street corner for these losers! So as they begin to destroy the area by Overly developing the original farm lands, it's time to pack it in with Ulster Co now! Sorry for the ranting, but it's truth! Otherwise love your videos and the places you're traveling to, I've been to many of these sites as a youth. Be safe out there brother and I'll catch your next video.

Those concrete footings were for the Lower Quadrant Semaphore Signals the U&D had in place between Kingston and Phoenicia until the New York Central took over the U&D in 1932
