Ukrainian Woman On The Life Inside Gulag | Minutes With |
In this episode of Minutes With we sat down with amazing Ivanna Maszczak, who spent 7 years in Gulag labor camp in remote part of Siberia during Soviet times.
Ivanna shared with us how she was arrested for being part of Ukrainian independence movement, what was it like to travel 11,000 km from home to the labor camp, what were the days there like and what she thinks about the current Ukrainian fight for freedom.
This is the first Minutes With interview conducted in a foreign language and subbed.
Thanks so much to Ivanna for taking part.

She has a silent strentht like concrete though she is warm, too especially having gone through the gulags. Gulag Archipelago is a great read and shows the dysfunction of extreme governmental power over people.
Had the great opportunity of meeting this lady. She may be small in build but BIG in so many other ways.
My grandfather was there and worked in the mines. I don’t know much about it but he died later of lung cancer
We appreciate hearing her own personal insights/experiences. We look forward to seeing more content like this.

My heart breaks with every word Ivanna says 🇺🇦🇨🇦. I have a similar story in my family. Being in Gulag is terrible enough, but being a woman makes it even worse because of the sexual violence from the russian guards and soldiers.

Many people were unjustly imprisoned in the Gulag. Read about the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. You will be very surprised how ambiguous their struggle was.
If anyone needs a visual of what GULAG life was like, read Danzig Baldaev’s “Drawings from the GULAG”… not for the faint of heart…
This was incredibly humbling.
It is a damn shame that the views on this episode are so low.
I would have loved to watch this video until the end as the story is good and the lady telling it is truly amazing, but I can’t see your small letters. What a shame…
Ukrainians seem to always have been very strong people with love for their country, Слава Украине, Героям слава
Impressed by so small and so strong lady. It's understandable now why Ukrainians are so strong against Russian aggression.
At first I thought this is queen of England disguised speaking in Ukrainian about her experience in gulag
WHY are you making the subtitles so small??😢😢 Always... Please, make them easier to read 😢
she fr clutched gulag
So strange she said 7 years. My great uncle was a member of the Polish Resistance and spent 7 years in a Siberian Gulag. I wonder if that was the standard sentence. He was an amazing and empathetic person but boy, did he hate the Russians after surviving that. Btw, UNILAD, your subtitle font size is ridiculously small. What is common amongst Ukrainians is,that culturally they seem to avoid unpleasant past and focus on present and future. Past seems to be discussed mainly if pleasant. Maybe that is key to their ability to survive and eventually thrive again
The Subtitles are too small.
good thing she clutched up so she could share her story, the least she could have done was clip it...
The subtitles are smaller than the hope for world peace

The Russians occupied Poland in the East during WWIII. That’s not deep influence. That’s violent aggression. Also, it’s highly likely that this was filmed before the invasion of Ukraine. These videos aren’t uploaded the day after they are recorded. A person like her would not deliberately leave something like that out.
