Ukrainian Troops Ordered To Retreat As Russia Closes In On Donbas

Ukrainian forces have been ordered to withdraw from Sievierodonestsk amid heavy fighting in recent weeks, indicating that Russia could be on the verge of a major battleground victory in the Luhansk region. Senior Advisor to the Center for Eurasian, Russian and Eastern European Studies at Georgetown University, Angela Stent, joins News NOW to explain what the loss could mean Ukraine and whether a diplomatic end to the conflict is possible.

It's amazing how the United States government claim they can't afford to take care of the homeless or the ones in need in their own country. But they somehow could come up with millions of dollars overnight to help the people in ukraine.

To those who claim it is a strategic or tactical withdrawal. please educate yourself on simple warfare terminology. Strategic withdrawal is when a military division or subdivision retreats in orderly formation with its armament largely intact. It is not when they are battered, have lost their arms, lost formation, lost many soldiers and had to swim across a river. Really guys, let’s have some Intellectual honesty.

Ukraine never has, nor will, stand a chance in this conflict, regardless of all the arms funneled in. Those weapons senselessly lead to more dead, with the same inevitability of Russia prevailing. Alot of hands out there have blood on them- military and civilian alike, who supported weapons shipments into Ukraine blindly without even knowing what the plan is, or having a way to track all these weapons after the conflict. Not Russia putin; Boris Bondarev's Full Resignation Letter: "My name is Boris Bondarev, in the MFA of Russia since 2002, since 2019 until now - Counsellor of the Russian Mission to the UN Office at Geneva. For twenty years of my diplomatic career I have seen different turns of our foreign policy, but never have I been so ashamed of my country as on February 24 of this year. The aggressive war unleashed by Putin against Ukraine, and in fact against the entire Western world, is not only a crime against the Ukrainian people, but also, perhaps, the most serious crime against the people of Russia, with a bold letter Z crossing out all hopes and prospects for a prosperous free society in our country. Those who conceived this war want only one thing - to remain in power forever, live in pompous tasteless palaces, sail on yachts comparable in tonnage and cost to the entire Russian Navy, enjoying unlimited power and complete impunity. To achieve that they are willing to sacrifice as many lives as it takes. Thousands of Russians and Ukrainians have already died just for this. I regret to admit that over all these twenty years the level of lies and unprofessionalism in the work of the Foreign Ministry has been increasing all the time. However, in most recent years, this has become simply catastrophic. Instead of unbiased information, impartial analysis and sober forecasting, there are propaganda cliches in the spirit of Soviet newspapers of the 1930s. A system has been built that deceives itself. Minister Lavrov is a good illustration of the degradation of this system. In 18 years, he went from a professional and educated intellectual, whom many colleagues held in such high esteem, to a person who constantly broadcasts conflicting statements and threatens the world (that is, Russia too) with nuclear weapons! Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not about diplomacy. It is all about warmongering, lies and hatred. It serves interests of few, the very few people thus contributing to further isolation and degradation of my country. Russia no longer has allies, and there is no one to blame but its reckless and ill-conceived policy. I studied to be a diplomat and have been a diplomat for twenty years. The Ministry has become my home and family. But I simply cannot any longer share in this bloody, witness and absolutely needless ignominy."

First it was pretty simple, Ukraine just had to announce its neutrality and pledge not to join NATO and put nuclear weapons on the border to Russia. But after that the war broke out and the terms changed. Now Ukraine was to recognize Donetsk and Luhansk peoples republics as seperate states + acknowledge that Crimea is part of Russia. The further the war drags on the more Russia will add to this list. Im afraid that they might even push onto Mykolaiv and create a landbridge to Transistria.

I do sense a lot of immaturity among the Ukrainian leadership. Without saying, Zelensky is at the top of the list for being a unrealistic dreamer. However, many of his so-called advisors are equally unrealistic. They still maintain the line that "once we have heavy weapons...we will...". As for Zelensky, the list of demands is long. "no-fly zone and warplanes", "Join the EU". "join NATO", "bring warplanes in pieces from Poland". Now they get a welcome signal from Ursula Von Der Leyen to "candidacy to EU", and she didn't hold back on her spin while declaring such grand gesture. Well, it is just that, a grand gesture because EU membership is a club with lots of conditions. Still, Zelensky is happy, thinking that he has just won a lottery jackpot. But he won't be able to cash out the prize years away, and he has to jump through hoops and stumble over road blocks to laid his hands on the prize.

Boris Bondarev's Full Resignation Letter: "My name is Boris Bondarev, in the MFA of Russia since 2002, since 2019 until now - Counsellor of the Russian Mission to the UN Office at Geneva.

Remember during the Saddam Hussein era, many corrupt politicians latched onto him because he made them what they were. But when they fell foul of him, they jumped ship and went to America as informers. Remember the WMD stories weaved by the traitors? And what about those oligarchs who got fat during the chaotic years under Yeltsin and Gorbachev? They took off to mostly the UK and live a life of luxuries, and ratted on Putin because Putin wanted to cut their testicles off. Things don't always seem what it is, on the surface. In the poorest parts of China everyone is living on top of each other and children are allowed to be homeless. Kids get sold to strangers. If a kid was homeless in the west, they would immediately be places in a orphanage and be placed in foster care until they turn 18. And everyone lives close enough to call emergency police services, so they can arrange an emergency medic to drive you to the emergency hospital if needed. The Sanctions on Russia are important - Russia is a liability in the economic network. Russia does not value their standing in the world, they don't care about their reputation with the world leaders. So, Russia will continue to attract sanctions to itself in the future, this won't be the last time it happens. Every time Russia attracts sanctions itself, our economies will down, then back up, and down again. The cycle will repeat. Sanctions will force us to find new trading partners. It might be higher cost now, but it's better than relying on a country that is that high-risk to trade with.

As of right now Russia is 5 kms from Lysychansk-Siversk road with fire control on it at certain points. A large convoy of retreating troops were forced to turn back to Lysychansk due to firing according to DPA. There is no way Ukraine can get out 6000 troops with arms and equipment currently in an orderly manner.
