As a vet, I will admit that Ukrainians are the best infantry out there, real warriors with pure heart. We have a lot to learn from them, especially their courage and willpower. Many people do not understand that withstanding such a huge enemy sounds basically impossible, but they do it no matter the cost. Just imagine what could they do if they had our modern weapons like f-22s or Abrams. Victory will be yours! You are amazing and you deserve it! We will always stand with you! ✊🇺🇸🇺🇦

This is insane. Whoever it is leading the troops is a beast. Talk about close quarters combat. From the really accurate hit at the mouth of their position to seeing the enemy that close throwing a grenade. As others have said this guy led by example. He was right there in front engaging targets while also commanding the troops that were with him. God bless the Ukranian Army you all are patriots on the highest level.
For those who are curious as to where this occurred: It's West of Bakhmut at a bend in the last open highway (0506 at Khromove) from Chasiv Yar going to Bakhmut, north of that highway is a large field with interlocking trenches that Ukraine built and the Russians are trying to take. With the recent Ukrainian counter attack, they were able to push the Orcs out of these trenches and are now heading towards Berkhivka. Lots of crazy drone footage on these trenches
@brookwhiteman9810
Жыл бұрын
They have taken 17 km overall so far from both bakhmut flanks and even today they took over 10 positions. And this is said to be the running up to the offensive. Truth is that if ukraine wanted to they could roll in tanks and take a lot of ground in hours and I know this because they do it every now and then. There is a lack of russian tanks in bakhmut because there is not much communication between Wagner and russian tank commanders so if UA tanks roll in they have about an hour to reek havoc and obviously try and avoid RPGs but it really is crazy how effective a counter attack might be. Obviously bakhmut won't be the main front of the offensive but action will get amped up massively and I expect armored vehicles to be lighting up russian positions on the flanks to pave the way for infantry to move up and nade the dugouts. Wagner have no defence solution. If you supress them with tank fire they will keep heads down and Infantryman move up and nade their hiding spots

Yeah this footage is mental, absolutely incredible. Worth pointing out that the video contains footage from two soldiers, Yabchanka and Tihiy, with Tihiy being the leader there. And you are absolutely right, his leadership in this situation was absolutely stellar, he led by example with that move out of the trench to get a better fighting position on the incoming Russians. This trench looks very sketchy i have to say, the fact that the Russians were able to get that close to the entrance was pretty horrifying, that fight could have easily gone the other way had one of those grenades that the Russians threw fallen in the right spot. It's incredible to see just how used these soldiers have gotten to artillery landing within a few meters of their position, they sometimes don't even flinch, yet me watching a video in the comfort of my house far far away from Ukraine was almost ducking with every round landing near them. Thanks for the analysis, very insightful as always.

Yeah. I wonder if they use the german fox hole techniques as well. Germans had pretty good hidden foxholes with covered entrances and a dark peep hole where a LMG was fitted in. I think making that here would have given them a saver position as well. ofcourse i dont know how much time they got to dig in but yeah a trench which has a open front imedtiatly to the front is dangerous. If that artillery shell was a bit closer everyone would have been wounded at the beginning. It's why the germans always dug out the underground part with a Z patern entrance to the open with a kill hole. Could also be inexperienced people ofcourse since most are probably just farmers 2 years ago. But man they did a outstanding job there.

Some context: Before the assault, Russians continuously shelled the trenches with heavy artillery, eventually killing 3 Ukrainian soldiers (including Norman). Under the cover of this bombardment, Russians managed to get so close. In the shooting skirmish that followed, Ukrainians had no losses, while Tihiy killed 6 Russians, Vlados - 2 and Yabchanka - 1. The rest of the attackers were killed by Ukrainian mortars and artillery guided by the leader of Honor "Filya" (Sehii Filimonov), who watched the battle from a drone. P.S. He didn't say "orcs". That leader basically saved his whole squad in that trench by going out on time by himself to fight off all those Russians that were basically at their front door. Huge balls..
"Tihiy" have died RIP
Fucking hell, what a nightmare. Even though this guy had massive balls and led by example, his group was barely responsive. Told the guy right next to him to cover the right flank for minutes without any sort of reaction, and no one responding to his commands or questions. Without him everyone would've surely died in that bunker from the approaching Russians because they were too scared of leaving that cover. Which is understandable as hell even from the couple of minutes of context we got by seeing the Russian's dropping a grenade right at their bunker entrance.
This is the most surreal thing to watch. People have only ever seen portrayals of combat/warzones in movies and the like, with the occasional war footage that's played on the news, but actually watching legitimate combat where you see both friendly and enemy forces dead, you see people shooting directly at other people, you see literal grenades and explosives... I *literally* cannot picture in my mind how horrifying it would be to be in that situation. Mad respect to all Ukrainian troops out there

The term "orcs" if from LotR. Russia is called Mordor by some (in the past there even were plans to set up a literal "Eye of Sauron" installation in Moscow). Given that and how the Russian invaders behave (brutal, greedy, and not particularly smart slaves), they are called orcs.

Holy hell this is intense and I can't even imagine how horrible it must've been in real life. Such a messy situation with very little situation awareness. I really, really wish for this war to end and for a long lasting peace in Eastern Europe.
He did pretty much everything right, showed incredible personal courage & turned a situation that could/should have been catastrophic for the squad in that bunker (i.e. with a Russian posting another grenade in through the doorway with them all inside) into a successful defence of a strategically critical position, & probably single handedly saved the Ukrainian's continued defence of the last bit of Bahkmut they hold, which in turn has provided a target rich environment for the Ukrainians to harvest many Russian troops & units from.
This is so depressing. I really wish this war would end and all these men can return to their families and loved ones.

Greetings from Los Angeles, California, Mr. Marine!! Thank You for your Service to our great nation, the U.S.A, and for your Patriotism!!
Being a squad leader during my National Service I’m most impressed by his high level of initiative and drive. The drone gave them a heads up sure, that the enemy was right on their position. But had he not got them all up on their feet and out of the bunker shooting those orcs would have dropped their grenades into the bunker undisturbed. It was a matter of seconds. Many of the group in the bunker seemed a bit shell shocked and passive at first. No wonder with recent casualties and the entrance of the bunker looking more like a crater than a trench. The more need of a true leader who gets everyone going. Very impressive.

Great points, after the shell that caved in the entrance they barely reacted to the second shell and they all seemed to need a moment. It is just crazy fate that this leader showed up, otherwise this was most likely yet another trench taken while fighters sought shelter.

Ukraine is a nation like pretty much any other nation in Europe - evolving over centuries. As Prof Snyder notes in his lectures - you do not "create a nation" by invading people. The invasion gets repelled because there already was a nation in this place. It (Ukraine) is a quite modern nation, as the glue seems (prof Snyder again) to be the political process itself - engagement of people in discourses, endavours, decisions. Ukraine is fairly rare for example in that the language does not define identity. Religion does not define identity (so e.g. Zhelensky - a Jew - could be elected by 70% vote and nobody paused to think about it). It is simply a bit hard, in Europe, to establish and keep a state on a flat-as-a-table terrain, as Ukraine is. Europe is a VERY nasty place to live, in the sense that you better have some core well naturally defended bases, if you want stability. But the fact that Ukraine, as a state, was an only now-and-then phenomenon, does not mean there was no Ukrainian nation.

Ukrainians have gained the respect and Love of all people who oppose tyranny and support freedom and self determination. I grew up seriously aware of the meaning of duty, honor and sacrifice and the cost to those who bear the burden of war. In a week will be Memorial Day, when we remember what has been sacrificed. Here are a few words from a soldier a long time ago. " It was given to us to learn at the outset that life is a profound and passionate thing. While we are permitted to scorn nothing but indifference..., we have seen with our own eyes, beyond and above the gold fields, the snowy heights of honor, and it is for us to bear the report to those who come after us.” Captain Oliver Wendell Holmes, Veterans Day Speech, Keene, New Hampshire, 1884
