Europe and the USA's delay in getting Ukraine the quality and quantity of arms and munitions it needs has been unconscionable. Most of NATO's military stockpiles were built on the assumption of repelling a Soviet invasion. Russia is not now able to invade a NATO country because Ukraine has obliterated over 50% of Russia's military capability, even when outnumbered and lacking modern weapons in quantity. If we gave Ukraine 90% of the NATO stockpiles they can finish the job for us which was exactly the original intent of those stockpiles. Give the Ukrainians what they need and it will be at least a generation before Russian could come close to rebuilding what they had before. That gives time for NATO to re-equip and refresh their own militaries and military stocks. If the sanctions on Russia are maintained long term they will never be able to fund their military to the extent they did before 2022. The long time financial penalties of Russia's war will not be apparent for a few years but will manifest itself as: 1. Population decline. Russia's population was already declining but the loss of hundreds of thousands of breeding age men dead and wounded will cost them many millions more children not born in the generations to come 2. Tens of Billions will need to be spent every on widow's benefits and healthcare for wounded veterans and this will be a generational drag on Russia's economy 3. Oil and Gas customers that left are not coming back and that will cost Russia's foreign exchange earnings for decades to come. Even their "allies" pay less for their oil and they know Russia is an unreliable partner so even they won't put all their energy supplies in Russia's hands 4. Inflation. The destruction of domestic diesel and gasoline supplies will cause the cost of anything related to them to rise. That includes oil, gasoline, diesel, lubricants, aviation kerosene, plastics and fertilizers. Russia has almost run out of internal case reserves to subsidize these products so the cost and pain to the Russian consumer is already being felt and will gradually get worse.
