Our today’s interviewee:
Fr. Tadeusz Żurawski (born in 1935), as a child he survived the Volhynian Massacre. On many occasions he miraculously avoided being killed by the Banderites. In March 1943 his mother overheard three Ukrainians talking outside their house and learned that the Banderites were planning an attack. The family escaped and reach out to the village administrator by the name of Grzyb, who agreed to put them on his family’s cart and flee the village together. They were travelling through the frozen fields, as the Ukrainian Insurgent Army was prowling the roads. They spent the first night at the house of friendly Ukrainians who hid them from the Banderites. Next, the went to the village of Półbieda, where the village administrator had a family, who welcomed them. In the morning, however, they had to leave immediately, as they received a tip from another Ukrainian that the Banderites were coming. At that time, the attacks on Poles started occurring on a large scale. In another village, where Fr. Żurawski’s uncle lived, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army bashed a baby against a fence, killing the child in front of the family.

I have been a history student all my life , I began learning of the Atrocities and Genocides committed in Europe by Godless heathen atheists in the early 1980's . I have read many novels and biographies of witness's and victims. I decided long ago my children and grandchildren would always have the option to go down fighting, rather than being led to slaughter like tens of millions were. I first educated them on mans cruelty to man in the 1900's. Then I trained all three of my daughters how to shoot and fight with handguns and rifles. Once educated and married I provided them with modern rifles , handguns and gun safes. I also provided them with a separate gun safe with plenty of ammunition. God help the fool that comes for them and their families. I am now in the process of helping to train two grandsons and a granddaughter , and when I go to meet my maker they will be well provided for. It is not fear that causes me to do this , it is the fact that history guarantees Atheist Marxist Communist will repeat this cruelty and butchering of the defenseless .

These territories were incorporated into the Ukrainian SSR. Since the Ukrainian nationalists - Banderivcy - were anti-Soviet, the Soviet authorities fought them as a threat to Soviet rule. As a result, some of them were tried and executed by the Soviets. Others were sent to Gulag camps. I don't know if any were tried specifically for the medieval- style cruel mass murder of the Polish population of Volhynia. Those that escaped to the West were treated as political refugees and they escaped justice.

Yes, many did escape to Canada. My Uncle, 21yrs old, died in this massacre. He was on the village’s patrol watch during the night, on the lookout with a friend for any sign of these Bandits coming for their village (Feliksówka). It was dawn, he returned home, and went to sleep. The bandits threw grenades on the straw roof, and as the family ran out because of the ensuing fire, they were shot. My Uncle died in the fire, having been in what must have been a deep sleep. My Father, who later immigrated to Canada, looked up the name of the leader of the Bandits, and found him also in Canada, but in a different Province. My Father phoned him, said, “I’m watching you. You’d better be careful because I know what you’ve done to the Polish people. Watch out.” And he hung up. Of course my Father couldn’t see this man, but it was a satisfaction just to know he’d live his life always looking over his shoulder in fear. Thank you for this series of videos. I deeply appreciate your effort to find these witnesses to the time; a most horrific time indeed.

The brutality between Ukrainians and Poles often happened while Nazis and Soviets could come in and do the same. And before. And after. IDK why stories are so simplified most of the time, or made as "good vs evil" when it was atrocities all around. Still, one gets a glimpse that overall its seems many Ukrainians and Croat Ustachis were some of the most cruel - not they had monopoly on human cruelty by any means.
