@@babblo1389 I am in Kyiv, and I want to say that you just used getting used to explosions after certain time. You start recognizing outbound and inbound shells by the sound as well as how far it landed. MLRS, artillery, avaiation bombs, termobaric rockets etc, they have different sounds. I wish I've never acquired that knowledge this way. Many civilians in Kyiv even not hidding in bombshelters cause we know how far the explosion is by the sound. At night it is even easier to trace explosions. You simply start counting after you see the flash in the sky

We used to have journalists in our FOBs occasionally, but back at Bastion they were ever present. They would be a nuisance on occasions, especially when they wanted to ride aboard our MERT/CASEVAC flights. Although the Chinook is a big bird, when the cargo/passenger compartment is kitted out as a mobile A&E complete with badly injured troops or civilians, up to six medics, air crewman and a couple of gunners, space becomes a premium With them being largely untrained, and obviously unarmed, they constantly need a chaperone to stop them doing silly things like sticking their head over a wall to see the enemy contact and end up taking a 7.62 to the face (happened while I was over there) But, in a modern democracy the freedom of the press is vital and people back home want to know what is going on. Although if I'm honest, the ISAF and Coalition top brass in Afghanistan and Iraq really only allowed journos to see and report on what _they_ deemed suitable. That's why some would go off the beaten track with no military association or escort, and often would end up in the hands of Insurgents. Strangley enough the Taliban welcomed reporters from all over the world, and would very rarely cause them harm, but the Jihadist Insurgents were not quite as friendly... Brave men and women, let's just hope they are being well looked after by the Ukranian armed forces.

The treaty assured those countries Russia would not interfer in the internal politics and respect their sovereign borders. In exchange those countries handed over their nuclear arsenals. Ukraine had the third largest in the world at the time. Since then Putin has tampered with elections in all three countries and sent military troops into all three of those countries. The Ukrainian president that was ousted in 2014 was installed by Putin. The current government was elected by the people. Yes there was an actual election after the Putin stooge fled back to Moscow. You claim they're Nazi's suppressing and killing their own people yet you provide no evidence and millions are out defending them. If your claim was even remotely true they would be welcoming the Russians with open arms. In 2020 there was a massive uprising in Belarus because of the rigged elections, there was 250,000 people out in the street. Putin sent Russian troops in to suppress them. Towards the end of 2021 there were violent riots in the streets of Kazakhstan where protestors became violent. Putin again sent Russian troops in. This got almost no news coverage. Yeah most of the western media is crooked but you're blindly believing Russian propaganda which is usually 10x more absurd. Western media is good at twisting and spinning the truth. Russian propaganda is usually strait up lies you can debunk yourself.

i'm against the war, whether in Iraq or Ukraine. but please don't forget that: what is really happening in Ukraine is what these Ukrainian same soldiers have done to poor Iraqi people when Ukrainian soldiers joined Americans and invaded and killed the poor Iraqis?

I wonder why the soldier at 04:10 wears the insignia of the 3. SS-Panzerdivision "Totenkopf"? That unit is notoriously known for their war crimes. Displaying such symbols is quite controversial, looking back at the inhuman crimes of WW2 Have you noticed this, @BBC News? Edit: also at 04:32 a runic insignia, but written in Latin that reads "Thor Mit Uns" (Thor with us). It begs me to question whether you have come into contact with a right-wing extremist unit within the Ukrainian military.

Yeah I would say it's definitely concerning. Obviously in the end it doesn't change the morality or necessity of Western support for Ukrainians defending their homes but when the fighting is done we should be clear eyed about the greater level of influence these kinds of groups will have in Ukraine. It wouldn't be the first time the west took an overly rosy or simplistic view of extremist allies.
