@@Coole000 max speed in Ukraine is 160kmh anyway. I would say the only 'mainlines' are Lviv-Kyiv-Kharkiv and Kyiv-Odessa, possibly a few others

I've travelled from Przymsyl in Poland to Lviv, Ukraine and back in 2019. I was due to visit Ukraine again, but Covid and Putin put a stop to that trip 😔 One of the best trains I've ever taken. Second class was decent, the modern Hyundai Rotem trains were better than many western European trains I've taken.

Lavochne station is so developed, as it is (as well as Volovets) a 'gate' onto crossing the main Carpathian ridges. Also Lavochne and Volovets are the tourists stations, popular for skiing in winter. These stations provide the transportation to the further smaller resorts in the mountains, as well as have some resorts right in these villages.

Ukraine is a nice country. And the Ukrainian people are very friendly.

It varies from train to train. Passenger trains are subsidized by cargo freight, mainly due to Ukrainians' low salaries, as they will not be able to afford trips (and most people take summer vacations and travel by trains). It's socialism at its worst.

I used to love the trains in the USSR. As an American I have many stories to tell. 1st Glass used to have chi or hot tea in the metal holders and glass cups. THAT WAS DEFINITELY A REFURBISHED SOVIET TRAIN. It was the same just got rid of the green interiors. Also, when you went to the restrooms you could see the “contents” going directly on the tracks. I am serious. My college class ring fell off my finger and through the hole and onto the tracks. Someone found a whole years wages for back then. I always said Moscow was like Washington and Kiev was like Charlotte, NC. The Ukrainian culture is like the Carolinas in the USA. I EVEN RODE ON A PRISON TRAIN FROM ORENGERG RUSSIA TO MOSCOW FOR 31 hours. Long story - escaped a kidnapping (1993) and only transpiration quickly out of Orenburg. I truly love the Ukraine.

@@olegm.3369 I am definitely not a specialist nor consider myself a specialist in many things. I do have a son that is 1/2 Ukrainian that lives in Kiev and our dacha in Pyatihatki. He chooses to work there. My Ukrainian wife died from cancer from the Chernobyl accident. It was the happiest time of my life filled with some tragedy. I worked for an American Television Network in conjunction with Moscow company (Ostankino) and later was transferred to the Kiev office. I gave a music concert at the October Palace of International Culture in Kiev in 1993. We produced Christian television programs for children and adults. Recorded music in studios in Kiev, Moscow and Vladimir. The Kiev Christian Center we helped start eventually became Hillsong - United. Moscow was difficult but interesting. I had a good friend that was a modelere name Slava Zaitzev at Moscow Don Modi who helped me navigate my time there. He and my mother had a joint venture when his clothing was introduced in the USA and Canada in 1986. I absolutely loved the Ukraine because it reminded me of home when I was so far away. No. I do not consider myself a specialist however I was a spectator during a very interesting time in History. In American English, the article “the” in reference to Ukraine as a Soviet state and independent country seems to have not changed. Mainly in English the word “Ukraine” is thought of as a reference “ borderland” as the Netherlands is considered “lowlands. An article is used in the reference to the translation. We would never refer to The Netherlands as “Netherlands”. If is culturally insensitive, of course I will remove “the” in reference to the independent status as a country. I never truly thought of that. God bless you! Thank you for the correction.

@@NonstopEurotrip it was one of the most exciting times in my life. I literally saw history happen. I loved the people so much. They sacrificed greatly to invite me as a guest for dinner especially at that time. I will never forget their kindness. I am a better person due to the life lessons I learned from these wonderful people. My visit to the Soviet dentist and hospital made my faith grow as well lol. To be judged by character and not by economic status was a concept that was very foreign to most citizens of capitalists countries. EVERYDAY WAS AN ADVENTURE AND I LOVED IT!

You were fortunate to travel to Ukraine while it was still possible. Such great scenery and "proper" trains with locos and good old jointed track. Brings back memories of traveling in Russia and the Baltic states a few years ago. I wish I had the time and energy to go again...

Tip: sleeper trains have boiler with drinkable hot water near the train attendant coupe, that usually all passangers can use (or ask train attendant, it should be free anyway)

Lviv!! That’s my late mother’s home area of the Ukraine, or at least her family’s!! They came from a small village close to Lviv called Toporow, pronounced Toporov!!

Based on my experience with UZ, coffee is coffee and coffee beverage (more correctly coffeelike beverage) is Nescafe 3 in 1 (they aren't allowed to call it coffee due to regulations)

I very much enjoy your channel. Your video trips on trains give one the opportunity to "sample" a possible trip before actually planning one. I would encourage you spend a little more time pointing out the access and amenities of the stations on both sides of your future trips, as I think viewers might appreciate it.

The sound of the old soviet railways is so addictive. I miss it!! It's crazy that the track is electrified all the way up in the mountains!! Whilst UK can't even get this tiny island fully electrified. 😐

Reminded me of travelling around Austria and in particular the trip from Graz past Bruch un der Mur into the world heritage circular train track starting a Murrzuschlag and over the mountain and on to Vienna. I think the Ukraine is calling me but not before I hop on the trans Siberian train.

Ukraine is such a beautiful and underrated country in my opinion. Me and a friend spend 6 weeks there over the summer and including all trains, hotels and food it only cost £200/week each!

Beautiful scenery I definitely like to travel in Ukraine by train I probably book all the 4 seater for privacy

@@NonstopEurotrip Yes and no since Russia has different rates for different parts of the country. GDP per capita is actually three times higher which translates to real wages. There's a reason why there is lots of Ukrainian "guest workers" in Mr. Putin's country.

@@cehaem2 tho it is also worth mentioning that 40-50% of Ukrainian economy is in shadows, according to some estimations. The official data says that the average salary is about 615$, however it only includes those paying taxes. In reality it is higher, especially in a city.

@@micsdf7 average salary doesn't matter. What matters is the dominant. People tut work in the shadow economy usually make even less. Ukrainians work in Russia not the other way around.

@@cehaem2 there is a GINI index which represents income inequality, it is 2 times better in Ukraine than in russia. Moreover there are quite some russian citizens in Ukraine at the moment. Further, not many ukrainian citizens really moved to russia in the past 5 years as it doesn't make sense anymore. However if we compare etnicities there are about 11% of russian in Ukraine. And no, in the shadow economy in Ukraine they don't make less it is the opposite. It is not an illegal business but just a tax evasion. People lower their salaries in the reports and get cash. Further the richer you are the more tax evasion you commit. Plus the goverment sector really makes the statistics as they (obviously) pay taxes and the salary in there is smaller. And as you mentioned the GDP the shadow economy really effects it. If 50% of the economy is in shadows just multiply it by 2, moreover the GDP is calculated for a much bigger population than the country has available (as it includes Cremia, the entire of Donbas and citizens working in Europe but sending money into Ukraine to their families) So all small things like this form a really bad statistical picture which doesn't really represent the truth.

This was the main rout for the Soviet trains loaded with "panzers" in he era of the cold war if there would be a conflict between the east and the west...

Great travel but why using a sleeper train for such a short journey? You better take suburban trains to get more impressions. The old carriage at 18:30 is probably the so called "electric laboratory" used by railroad workers.

Some very pretty scenery, that's for sure. I still feel reservations concerning personal safety. At a political level. At a personal level. At locational level en-route. I think I'd only make the journey as part of a group of four.

When we visited last year, It was perfectly safe. I wouldn't travel right now until things settle down. Amazing country 👍🏻

Over the years I've seen worse and I've seen better toilets on UZ trains. Some even have automatic paper seat covers and don't smell bad.
