The actress playing the doctor is just as good too. She even throws on a Scottish accent.
How is this gentleman not in movies!? Performance of a generation!

fake empathy is the worst. it totally turns me off to the entire process. the way she handled it seem much more realistic.
The actor is way too good 😭
I feel the doctor could have shown much more empathy in her tone of voice and facial expressions

She would have shown empathy and offered tissue paper when he cried
that gave me Goosebumps cuz of how sad and emotional this situation is. to be honest, my day would have been destroyed consulting a patient like this

Doctors are human. Do we forget because we’re in a clinical environment and do not remember they aren’t a god, and definitely not infallible? We both might try to avoid or sugarcoat a pill like this situation. It’s scary. Reminding: we have the right to quiz our doctor, our medical co-pilot. Reminding: no one is infallible and doctors witness pain and confusing situations every day, and treatments might be unique per person.
How can we even use the word- “happy”? The patient is definitely not gonna be happy!
Amazing job, huge respect to both of you. The Gentleman is a subperb actor.

Feels a bit strange that the Doctor would say "I'm happy to discuss your results" seems like the exact opposite of a warning shot.
I think silence is very useful. This is a short video to show what should be done and they didn't have time to pause - also this is for an OSCE which is not the greatest way to test bedside competency imo. I feel like if my doctors give me time to process and think, I like them a lot more! It's natural to feel awkward when telling someone they don't have a lot longer to live and to fill that awkwardness with talking. But silence can be very powerful and the patient will fill it by expressing things that they wouldn't have otherwise.
This gentleman deserves to work for GMC of ECFMG as a simulator for OSCEs.
Why on earth would she say "it's very early in your journey" It just confuses the patient, considering his cancer has actually spread. The actor was amazing, but this was a poor breaking bad news station from the doctor
The actor is just too good. The doctor was pretty cold except towards the end.
Doctor is like that she is running late and has to tick all the boxes...no sympathy
Great role play, really helpful! I would have liked a summary of the steps on one page at the end of the video

My God, the doctor’s giving me anxiety !
Imo since this a coaching video I think the Dr did not show adequate empathy. 2ndly she was in a hurry to break the bad news especially after she mentioned that she got bad news. She should have given the man some few more minutes before the actually bad news and few minutes afterwards the actual bad news. She did not check the man's understandimg of what is 'bowel cancer ' The emotional state of the man may not have warranted to continue progressive engagements such that it may require another visit with a significant support person to talk about the way forward in a way he and or the partner will comprehend better
ok i know doc was just following a format but the tone & line of questioning at the beginning seems awfully misleading to me, given what the way the conversation was going to
Cold doctor like a mechanic
Back passage, alternative to #2
i stopped the video to say that actor is brilliant, i almost cried
Immediately give the man oscar

The dr is moving too fast…giving too much information…no empathy
@amaani1036

These are made for OSCE exams, you get around 7mins per station and this is a possible scenario. So the process of breaking bad news has to be time-efficient with all relevant information given to the patient while showing whatever empathy possible in 7mins, then once the station is done its onto the next (even if you feel emotionally annihilated)! Of course in real life you would spend more time to create more space for the patient to process the news and emotions.
he is such a great actor.

The doctor is good I wouldn’t have kept a straight face
I had my annual physical recently and after my doctor’s office got back the results, they said _“she wants you to come back to go over the results.”_ I feel totally fine though and last year they just told me to take 2,000 IU of Vitamin D. So now I’m like, _“WTF is this all about?!”_ So now I’m watching all these videos in case the doctor wants to deliver me some ‘bad news.’ I’ll be ready. My doctor won’t see me sobbing like this poor old bird. Might as well make it easy on the practitioner. I would just need enough time to get my affairs in order, then wait for the inevitable.
I really love the role player

Offer the maj a tissue please
seriously The doctor doesn’t deliver the news well , this man is very good at acting even I on my phone show empathy but that doctor was so cold I don’t think she is a good guide for OSCE training
''Happy to give you the results?'' really? When you know it isn't good news. I would never say that before a bad news. Better to skip this and tell him would you like someone else to be with you while we discuss the scans results as I am afraid.............
Who else is here because they have health anxiety and have convinced themselves they have every serious disease under the sun
Give him tissue ,
Professionally speaking, the doctor should not show more empathy? she is not trying to comfort the patient, offering a napkin or a glass of water? At least, that´s what is said to be done. Anyway, great video, thanks a lot
IPS could have been better. She barely used words like "I'm so sorry" "I understand". Felt a bit robotic
Fantastic patient simulator Rude emotionless doctor simulation
This dr has zero empathy. I would never go to such person for a consultation.
That's not Antarctica 🐧, but America. That looks like a scam.
The only problem I see with some of these training videos is that they keep making it seem like getting diagnosed with cancer is a death sentence or that otherwise the situation is hopeless. I mean, by the time someone has gotten to the age of this bloke, the idea of getting diagnosed with cancer should have already crossed his mind. He didn’t think he was going to live forever, did he? When you get diagnosed with a bacterial infection, the doctor just says, “Here’s some antibiotics … blah, blah, blah.” And off you go. But these are all the loss-leader treatments. The medical industry keeps us healthy until we come down with something serious which kicks a whole bunch of professions into high gear and keeps the medical industry turning. At least he’ll get the chance to say ‘goodbye’ to everyone he loves before the Final Hour.
she speaks terrible actually no empathy no emotion ... bam bam bam
The professional isn’t very empathetic 🥹
