The wings have moving parts and more moving parts means more maintenance hours and that means more money to be spent.

Very quickly now, 5th and 6th generation fighters will have swept back wings....it allows far greater speed. What I wonder about is, the human brain can only process so much "fast data." Where is that point of no return...that moves us to fully drone operated, full size fighters? I just watched another KZread episode, where the pilot is wearing an new experimental helmet that costs 400 thousand dollars each. I had to take a double take....400k each. 😳

F35B: Targeting laser, British. Pilot life support, British. Pilot flight equipment and helmet, British. STOVL Liftfan, British. STOVL roll ducts, British. STOVL Swivel nozzle, British. Power management systems, British. Refuelling probe, British. I could go on but hopefully you get the point. It's the arms trade, Britain has no need to produce an aircraft, to think it couldn't would be totally ignorant. It does however contribute significantly to the flight systems.

Britain's GR4's were retired 2 years ago after 40 years in service, of course it is dated. Remember though the role they played in the first Gulf War (1991), bombing the Iraqi airstrips. Even Shwarzkopf was astounded by the bravery of pilots and performance of the aircraft.

But Iraq is small country and all what we have got some fighters and old SAM systems. I wish we have got 200 mig 31 and 200 mig 29 and show us what your tornado could do.
