Putin has been wanting Ukraine for himself for a long time, any excuse to invade would do. Putin's dream is to reunite the old USSR countries once more. Ukraine is like the pretty girl that used to date Russai. They break-up and now the pretty girl wants to be with an American and have UK friends. The ex-boyfriend Russia will kill her before he let's another man(America) be with his woman. We all judge and choose which side is right. My personal belief is if she dosn't love you, let her go. NATO and the EU have nothing to do with the war in Ukraine! But they are justifiably worried about Russias aggression in its neighbours lands. Don’t forget Russia had a non aggression pact with Ukraine when they gave up their nuclear weapons. Russia then took Crimea, sending in the “little green men” as they were called.

I don't think that you are getting all the facts. Finland and Sweden were also afraid, that's why they joined NATO. All the Baltic's that joined have just had their actions justified by what Russia is doing.

One difference is since 62 Russia has honoured the Monroe Doctrine, where as the US/EU/NATO have not done the same for Minsk. 50% of Ukraine is Russian speaking and prefers to be tied with Moscow than Kiev.
