There's something about that wee wind turbine on the platform and the remoteness of the location that makes me think this could be in the Australian Outback somewhere! Oh, and I remember the friendly dogs there :)

Agreed. I was thinking the railway station at Cook, South Australia about halfway between Adelaide and Perth on the Indian Pacific railway line. Not many people, not many passengers, but plenty of big freight trains. Similarly barren landscape but arid desert instead of this heath/tundra environment.

Hi steve. I follow your own videos. Corrour is a fantasic place to visit. I camp there close to the spot where Renton from trainspotting does his " its shit to be scottish " rant. Staff at the station house are fantatastic. if your looking to research this , please look at the channel, " all the stations". they did a day working there.

I stayed at the Loch Ossian Youth Hostel and enjoyed the 10-mile hill walk to Rannoch fifty years ago. Only three persons I met and said Hello on the way. Hail from Japan!

My grandfather worked on the railway and lived at Corrour for several years - that would have been the late 1920's / early 1930's. The railway cottages were demolished many years ago. My grandmother always said it was a "comforting" place to stay and not at all lonely.

I love the remoteness of parts of Scotland. Sometimes it can be humourous. 50 years ago I was walking part of the way between Loch Ness and Fort William. I went up to the top of a small hill. Nothing around in any direction for miles - but on the top of that hill was a red telephone box! 🤣

The views look incredible. Incredible place.

Thanks for including the little youth hostel in your video, I have fond memories of staying the night there while doing a cycling tour of west Scotland when I was 13. I'm 52 next week😀.

Memories! I stayed at the Loch Ossian YH in Aug 1975 - it looks exactly the same today ! There was definitely no shop at the station and I distinctly remember being advised by the warden at the hostel not to eat our dinner out by the loch for fear of been eaten alive by the midges. Even in those days the morning train to London always stopped there as well as the sleeper. Great video!

As for the coffee/cake dilemma I would have had before and after the train 😂

Many years ago I used to go to Corrour and camp near the hostel and fish in the Loch. It was a Deltic diesel that pulled the carriages back then, it was a magical place and by the look of it still is. Great video.

Great to see you do a longer video, and fully immerse yourself in the subject. You clearly loved the scenery. Very often, Corrour is covered in snow, while Rannoch and Mallaig are bathed in sunshine, so you really had a good day. Really enjoyed everything about this film. 😊

"Never walk alone on the moors." I was thinking that while watching YOU!

Great video again Scott! I was fortunate enough to stay in the signal box last October. I'd caught the Caledonian Sleeper, walked around the Loch - the village of Corrour is at the far end roughly 4 miles from the station - then caught the afternoon train to Fort William. Spent the following day on the Jacobite to Mallaig and back before catching the ScotRail service back to Corrour. Dinner in that dining room, logs fires, stories with fellow travellers before retiring and up early for the 8:30 service back to Glasgow. A bucket list item ticked. I have to say the staff were outstanding, very welcoming, very accommodating and even packed me off with a coffee and haggis and egg roll - for the journey back to the big city!!

Inspirational scenery! It could be Montana. Let me see if I can get there this year...

Visiting Corrour station is on my to-do list this summer. Next time you're passing by Loch Long on the train keep your eyes peeled for whales - Last year I saw a pod of three of them from the train at the very part of the loch that's in your video!

A fantastic video Scott😊I'm from New Zealand. Brings back happy memories of the West Highland line, when I first visited Scotland in early 1989. I travelled on it from Mallaig to Fort William, then on to Glasgow Queen St the next day. That was after taking a ferry from Armadale Isle of Skye. Before that I had taken a bus, from where the ferry came across from Kyle of Lochalsh. That was back in the days of "Over the Sea to Skye"😊

Hi Scott, wow bloody wow my friend, corrour looks stunning.... Coming to wild camp responsively early April with my Son and I'm excited. Absolutely remote a few trains a day , and I think possibly no trains on a Sunday . Our plan is a weekend at corrour and 3/4 days on the Isle of Arran. Few hours in Edinburgh and accommodation in Glasgow. Great great video, got to love those dogs . Update .... the train is booked yay Cheers buddy

Great video Scott! One of your best. You managed to keep me glued for 31 minutes, with the beautiful landscape and the disappearing red-rucksack-man!

All I can think is that the backpack man went off to do the somewhat tricky geocache (no spoilers) which is over towards the bridge. What he did after that - who knows! Great scenery and always worth a visit.

Stayed in the signal box, when it was Morgan's Den (1998). Walked to Ben Alder cottage, which is haunted. I spent a night there alone.

and this is why I'm subscribed, talk about off the beaten track and what a gorgeous place. I've been to fort william and surrounding areas. You really should check out Glenfinnan - that place is stunning.

First heard of this station from Geoff Marshall. Now have seen about 5 stories on it. Want to visit and stay overnight!

I stayed in the hotel @1.19 very nice it was too. Ardgarten Hotel, and you could see the trains in the distance .

Back in the 1980s the crew change took place here. The passing loop looks pretty rusty now. Amazing place, and this video highlights that. Keep up the good work Scott.

One autumn inthe early 90s I caught the sleeper up to Dalwhinnie with my brother and a couple of mates, and walked up into the Ben Alder range. We slept in a bothy, and continued in the morning across the tops, and down to Corrour just as dusk was coming on. Happily, our timing was good, and the sight of the Fort William to Glasgow train coming out of the near darkness was a wonderful thing. Tea and cake all round! That was a great weekend, the memory of it is still vivid when many have blurred with time passing.

Hi Scott from Spain. When i was very much younger my explorations would be at a much lower level, in fact at sea level and I would make my way over the uncharted territory of the salt marshes off the East coast of Essex and if one wasn't careful one could drop through the sea lavender into a rill and find oneself in very sticky mud as one tried to see over the sides of the rill.

There is a fascinating book called The West Highland Railway, by John Thomas. It tells the story of how the line came into existence. My copy dates to 1965 but the book has been reprinted and updated a few times since then.

Been watching you for a few years now from the other side of the world. Was home in Glasgow and bounced through Queen Street station for the last month. So disappointed I never saw you and had the chance to say hello. Too late, back in the sweltering south east Asia.

That is the biggest cup of coffee i've ever seen. Hope it tasted nice :)

Great video Scott. I felt at peace on the other end of my phone. I can only imagine what it’s like in reality. It’s up there on my list. My connections with Scotland are dwindling, my family have either passed on or moved down south. It used to be my base camp. It won’t deter me from making the trip though.

That’s proberly the US Military probs flying over. They have a very distinct noise. I’m in Greenock and can hear them flying over sometimes.

Was due to go on Saturday to do this very thing but trapped a nerve in my back and bed bound instead :( I will get there eventually

I thoroughly enjoyed this video, Scott. I completed the West Highland Way in August and wanted to stop at Corrour on the train back to Glasgow from Fort William but time didn’t permit. Thanks for this video; it has justified a day trip (or an overnight in the signal box trip) to do a bit of walking and enjoy the hospitality.

The path to Kinlochleven and Fort William is wet/boggy but when you get down to the rail bridge the boggy path meets a land rover track down to loch Treig . The paths from there are reasonable. Have done both theses walks several times

I hiked from Cape Wrath to Fort William a couple of years ago. I quickly found out I had to put aside my city thinking as paths would disappear, and many times it was more, aim for a far-off feature and get there as best you can. I never got to enjoy bog walking, but the remoteness and beauty of the highlands is just so good for the soul.

Nice video. Love how peaceful it is. Where do the Station/café staff come in from, or do they live on site?

An object lesson in how to do it. Some research , some stamina and some patience . Chust sublime as Para Handy might have said. I attempted the same out of Rannoch Sta. last year with on a similar fine winter's day. Good to see the railway service well patronised at the time. Pity the Class 156s are so noisy with the window vents open.
