UK's Freightliner 70012 tests again with CSX! Plus Amtrak bonus!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Wabtec tests Freightliner 70012 again, this time with a CSX Frankenstein unit. This may be the last time it is out testing for a while. Plus Amtrak Train #48 with 3 P42s which are getting rarer system wide with the new ALCs on most trains now.

All railways share the same origin point. It is amazing to see how much difference there is around the world in the machinery all of which essentially does the same job.

In this case, the contrast between the relatively small British loading gage (set in the days of very early steam locomotives such as the “Rocket”, “Planet”, & other diminutive early rolling stock), and the modern massive American loading gage (think U.P. “Big Boy”, C & O “Allegheny”, D.M.& I.R. “ Yellowstone”, as well as modern GE & EMD diesels) couldn’t be more obvious! 😊

The class 70 looks very small compared to other American locomotives.

Freightliner #70012 back at it yet again. On the test track where it belongs with the #809 and a CSX rebuild joins in plus GECX #2016. Wow.

It was written off as an asset following the damage it received when it was dropped on delivery, so even though repairs have clearly been made, I doubt it will ever see use in the UK.

It's to do with the gauge difference we have here in the UK and sadly because of how our railways were built it is what it is
